"We have used this restaurant for the last 5 years and up until recently have been very happy. last week we placed a sizeable order (over £50) and after practically having to guide the driver, turn by turn, we recieved our order over an hour after the eta, given to us by the restaurant. The food was cold, and 2 of the meals were inedible due to the quality and state of them. The standard of all meals were sub par and we were very disappointed. We called to highlight the problems immediately and were informed that they were using a taxi that evening, as their usual driver was acting as a chef in their kitchen. We were told someone would call us back to discuss either that evening or the following day. Nobody called. We left it 4 days and called back and were told that they were closed and it was not a convenient time to discuss, but were told someone would call tomorrow guess what.... nobody called. So we called again this evening. The person my wife spoke to was completely unapologetic, spoke over the top of her and refused to accept any responsibility. We did not go looking for free stuff, we simply wanted to offer a restaurant we had used for years an opportunity to make things right. Instead we were met with excuses, hostility and the feeling of being let down."

Had a takeaway, it was alright, but found the whole meal pretty bland. Poppodoms were lovely as was the dips that accompanied them, but the actual curries lacked taste or spice.

During our 3 week trip through Scotland we visited many Indian restaurants Spice at Meldrum Arms is the best. The service was very friendly, polite and helpful, the host who came to our table after dessert is really knowledgeable and a profound expert in Indian cuisine. The food (we had 2 starters, 2 main dishes, and 2 desserts) was very rich in texture and the taste/flavour was composed as to be as well complex as subtle. Great experience.

I visited this restaurant with a friend. I had been there before, but that was about ten years ago. There was no obvious reason for my delay in revisiting. We got a nice reception and good service from the young man who served us. The Indian meal was excellent and value for money. Unfortunately only one other table was occupied and those people left the restaurant, having finished their meal, quite soon after we arrived. This, of course, means that there was no atmosphere whatsoever which did have some effect on our dining experience. Ver carta

On the way through to Aberdeen we stopped here for something to eat. We had Poppadoms condiments to start. For mains I had chicken tikka Malabari which was a medium spiced dish and my wife had chicken tikka Masala which was a mild dish, we had Pilau rice and cheese Nan along with our meal. Both curries were flavoursome and tasty, the rice Nan were tasty too. My wife found the chicken tikka Masala to be a bit spicy for her taste for a mild dish. The food was all served nice and hot. The service was pleasant and efficient. Will definitely be visiting here again.

In Meldrum for a wee jog and fancied a takeaway, stumbled across Spice. I would say they could maybe improve their exterior signage as we drive past on a regular basis and never noticed it being there. Ordered food for takeaway, gentlemen persuaded us to have a drink in the bar while we waited. It was very quiet but the staff were all friendly and helpful. Food came pretty quick. When we got home we were all super impressed, loads of flavour and generous portions. Not a grain of rice was left. We will definitely be back. Noticed on the menu it’s BOGOF on a Tuesday when dining in the restaurant.

Delighted that we could have dinner out but it was not sufficiently good that we will return. The Good polite service, and well set out venue with good spacing. The Lamb Chadni was tasty and the Chicken Tikka was well cooked The Bad side dishes were so small they were practically tasters, and the King Prawns were nothing akin to King Prawns and not well cooked. When this was shared with the team all they suggested was a chicken dish in it's place clearly not what is expected when you order a dish at premium price! The drinks were also questionable, with old glasses being used for the lager (you can tell by the date on them) which meant quality was not great. Overall not as good as other loca... Ver carta

We plumped for this restaurant without checking out any reviews somdidnt know what to expect. It was a Wednesday and just after 5pm sonee were the first in and greeted warmly by a young chap who showed us to our table. We ordered drinks which came along with complimentary popadoms and dips. The food was ordered and when it came it was served by an Indian(? gent. He took time to explain that the South Indian Korma that my girlfriend had order wasn't like a normal korma. It was less sweet and more like a korma they would have at home. Spicy but not hot. He then offered that if she didnt like it they would exchange it. There was no need as she said it was one of the best curries she'd ever had....

So placed a order online. Adhering to the covid rules, Got the meal a lamb balti a Ceylon garlic chilli chicken, garlic rice, mushroom rice a garlic naan, and chapatis, well what can I say, the lamb was so tuff it was impossible to eat, there was no mushrooms in the rice, there was no chilli in the garlic chilli chicken. The naan was undercooked and raw in the middle. The chapatis where rock hard. We phoned the restaurant to complain but the manager was incredibly rude, kept talking over me when I was explaining the problems, we spent £44 pound on a treat, but was badly let down. I will be taking this to the trading standards as I do not want anyone to spend their hard earned money on food t...

"Sunday, 3rd September 2023 – 19:00 Meal: Wine Starters – Main – Coffee My friend and I arrived at 19:00 to a busy but not overfull restaurant without a reservation and they accommodated us upstairs. Menus were produced and we ordered a bottle of white wine and a jug of water. 0rders placed for starters and 2 servings of the Italian style fish stew on the ‘Specials Board’ at 26.99 each. Tomato and chilli with promises of loads of different fish. The toss up was between a steak or the stew (which neither of us would cook at home). The table was dirty and needed wiping – this request was placed 3x on the young waitron who eventually produced a cloth slopping water from a bucket in the corner cupped in her hands where she half heartedly wiped the table with water dripping onto my friend’s lap. Hurried mop up with tissues out of my bag. The white wine was plonked on the table – next to the cooler – unopened and no glasses. Several attempts were made to attract the waitron’s attention. Eventually another bottle was produced opened and we were advised the waitron was under age and not allowed to pour wine. Perfectly acceptable had she produced an opener and the glasses with an explanation I would have been happy to help myself – we understand and appreciate these things. The starters arrived and were delicious! The chef then came out to see us and explained that there was no lobster for the stew – we asked for extra monkfish, he then said there was no monkfish left – but could help us with other white fish and crab claws. He said he was down to the last 2 portions, and he would ensure they were hearty. We were a bit concerned and suggested perhaps we settle for the steak which is always delicious. He assured us we had made the right choice and would enjoy the stew. The stews arrived and were ‘hearty’ if being crammed with the contents of a tin of crab claws is your definition of hearty. The promised ‘rich tomato broth with chilli and garlic’ was a watered down version of what was clearly less than a cup of the original broth left at the bottom of the pot topped with water. It was tasteless – lacking in hint of either chilli, wine, garlic or herbs – having lived in Malta I can assure you I have a deep understanding of Med cooking. I guess we were lucky we didn’t have the salty brine of the crab claws as the broth. It was inedible and we were starving so we kept adding salt and pepper – we were beyond the point of returning the food which was a mistake in hindsight. We skipped dessert – had coffees and left. The meal came to nearly £100.00. This was an expensive lousy experience. We paid a generous tip – because they accommodated us without a reservation. Take aways from the experience: • The restaurant service on a Sunday evening at 19:00 should be as good as it is on a Friday at 19:00 • Being a local and having eaten there several times – it is my first choice for a ‘good’ meal – don’t abuse the luxury of local support. • Train your waitrons to clean tables, by wringing out the cloth and not dripping water on your patrons. • Waitrons (even under aged ones) should at least carry a wine opener, and understand that wine glasses should be produced when delivering wine. • Your chef should know better and never, ever assume he can cut costs by selling the dregs from his kitchen. • A poor dining experience costs you more than you think. We would have ordered dessert, and more importantly returned for a second meal in the next week – WE DIDN’T! I have a friend coming from Ireland in November – do I risk taking her to the Anchor?"
