"We celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday here last night, and had a wonderful time. Sophia was extremely helpful, and all the staff were attentive. The food was amazing not one complaint from anyone! It had such a lovely atmosphere and was beautifully decorated staff were very gracious about the fact we had a couple of noisy/boisterous 4 year old boys too... We would definitely come again. "Visited 3 weeks ago and this was our first time here even though we spend most of our summers in llanrug. Excellent 2 course Sunday lunch. All home cooked and absolutely delicious. Our host was very welcoming and she wanted to ensure everyone enjoyed their visit. A super pub and we are very lucky to have you in the village. Now we've found you there will be many more visits to try out your lovely menu, and we look forward to many more lunches next summer Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Booked afternoon tea here for a family of seven, based on reviews which raved about the warm welcome, possible tour of the house etc. I was looking forward to learning a little of the history as well as having a tasty afternoon tea. The welcome...was far from warm. We arrived just as a harried young man dashed past us without acknowledgement on the phone. We then waited at least minutes, somewhat awkwardly in the empty hallway until he finished his phone call. He then said ‘Afternoon tea?’ to which we nodded and he escorted us straight to the dining room without another word. So much for the warm welcome. We were then quickly served with teapots and stands of afternoon tea. Food was ok, some high points and some low. A member of staff asked us if we were ok about minutes in, which we were. However, I had read in previous reviews that extra tea and sandwiches could be ordered, but we never had the chance as no-one returned for the rest of our meal. There was no way to attract attention, we may as well have been alone in the house. Having pre-paid for our meal, we then left, having looked around for someone to say goodbye to. Not a soul on site. It really was the most dreadful service. Extremely transactional. A bit like Mac Donalds, really. I’m sure the owner manager would be appalled to hear how badly we were treated at what purports to be a five star establishment. We won’t be returning."

"Excellent food as usual. Big portions and cooked to perfection. However, I must state that the social distancing in place is questionable. They were quite strict regarding masks however tables were set as they were usually. Had to squeeze past other tables to get through. Was sat with my back nearly touching the chair behind me. No one way system when entering and leaving. People in doorway had to go out again for us to be able to get past. Don’t know why the other door was closed. Common sense says to use this door as an exit. Condiments on table no sachets. Would be hesitant to visit again. It seems as they are putting profits in front of safety at the moment."

"First visit to the golden cod last Friday. Place looks a little run down. But the chicken tikka kebab was delicious. I ordered it on recommendation. I was not disappointed. The freshly cooked flat bread with great big chunks of chicken, loads of salad and plenty of sauce. I had the medium and o/h had a large. It was huge and honestly the large could easily have fed us both. Slightly less impressed with kids meals sadly. Ordered double burger plain. Got single, sadly we were staying 20 mins away so too far to go back and correct it. Chicken nuggets and chips went down well with miss 8. Plenty of nuggets (8) and enough chips for her, but if the portion is the same for adults (I don’t know if it is) then I would say it’s on the small side. Total cost was about £24. I would go back every week for one of those kebabs. It looks like this business along with many others is struggling due to the opening of the bypass. Of your in the area and fancy a decent kebab definitely worth popping in. They only take CASH."
