"I went to The Fairie Tree for Mother’s Day after booking a table four weeks in advance. We were seated quickly and our drink and food orders were taken promptly. The menu offered basic pub grub, nothing fancy or a la carte. My three teenagers ordered haddock and chips, while I opted for the chicken and leek dish. A large party of 8 was seated nearby and their starters arrived quickly. However, we had been waiting for 20 minutes since ordering our food. After waiting for 50 minutes to an hour, I finally had to flag down a waitress to inquire about our food. She discovered that our order had not gone through to the chef due to a computer error, without offering an apology. Our food eventually arrived after another 20 minutes, which was decent but nothing special. When my son wanted dessert, it took another 10-15 minutes to get someone's attention. He ordered sticky toffee pudding, which again took 30 minutes to arrive even though the restaurant was not busy. We were about to give up on the dessert when the chef informed the waitress it was ready. There was no apology for the delay. When we asked for the bill, we didn't receive any sort of reduction for the poor service. The staff did not seem interested in addressing our concerns, and overall the service was slow and unfriendly. The food was overpriced and mediocre. I do not plan on returning as the experience was disappointing."

"Ended a weeks stay in the Trossachs by booking a special evening out. Did my research and found Callendar meadows had lots of amazing reviews so went with that. We chose from a set menu good choices which also catered well for vegetarians. So glad we went. Every course was (home) cooked, using fresh seasonal ingredients and each meal was faultless. We started with homemade bread, olives and hummus have to mention these were unusually good olives. We chose asparagus panna cotta and chicken live parfait as starters, which tasted as good as they looked both presented beautifully. Soup was carrot and orange , brought in a pretty teacup, with garlic croutons, a swirl of creme fraiche and chopped chives the best carrot soup we’ve ever had. For our main courses, we chose baked cod with cheese topping and bean stuffed red pepper. Again, both cooked to perfection, hugely tasty and delicious accompaniments. Puddings again were such well thought out dishes we had a mango mousse and bread&butter pudding thought to just name them is to understate their quality in terms of flavour, freshness and presentation. As well as the food, the dining room needs a mention. Beautiful front room in a beautiful house (also a B&B though we weren’t staying). The atmosphere was relaxed even though we felt we were dining so well. Some diners were dressed up, some dressed more relaxed all felt right and comfortable. Around 7 or 8 tables in all ensured a personal, friendly service . I can’t end this review without mentioning Theo. He was working alongside the owner, and seemingly being trained along the way. He was absolutely lovely and has the makings of a very good waiter/server/host friendly, attentive, just nicely confident, able to provide detail as of food when asked etc. Many thanks to the whole team, we had a truly wonderful evening with you. If we return to the area, we will absolutely be returning to Callander Meadows."
