"Whilst the room was as expected we were slightly disappointed at the overall experience. We arrived just before 3pm and on entering the pub via the back door, found it completely empty. Calling out attracted no response so we finally gave up and left to go for a ride around. On our return we were told that the pub wasn’t open so we’d have to go up the road for a meal, which meant yet another road trip. Breakfast was fine but no alternative offered, and the ambiance left a lot to be desired as the pool table and darts board clearly showed it was the sports room, with a few tables and chairs dotted around . After a lovely, but tiring day out for my disabled sister, we decided to eat in the pub. We were immediately told that the entire specials menu was not available, which was a shame as I’d decided what I was having whilst looking at it for ten minutes the day before whilst in the empty pub! A young lad said he’d find us a table (in a half empty pub) and took us to a table completely hidden away from the rest of the pub. We then ordered our food at the bar, got our drinks and waited and waited for the food to arrive. Over an hour later the meal, which was perfectly cooked, arrived. Now, the friendly hostess couldn’t wait for us to leave and started clearing the table before we were finished. When we asked to see the desert menu, she disappeared, only to come back and say, the kitchen was closed… Again she cleared away our drinks glasses so we left feeling very uncomfortable. Breakfast the next day was just the same, it was almost as if we were outstaying our welcome. I know tourists are transient custom but we would have returned if we had received better service. Whilst the landlady was lovely, she was just too overworked to pay more attention to what her customers needed."

We stayed at this restaurant for 6 days. The room was spacious and so was the walk-in wet room. Parking was convenient. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The staff were friendly, helpful, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. Our dog was allowed everywhere on the property. The locals were also friendly. We would definitely return.

The room we had was in a block of similar rooms and of a high standard. Though be careful in the shower as it does become slippery (a warning notice by the bathroom was present). The breakfast room does need updating especially the tables that show signs of wear and were sticky to the touch. There was a lack of choice of food at breakfast and the quality of the food served should be of a higher standard.

There are only 2 Pubs functioning in the main village street , so my wife I opted for the Ancient Mariner's burger dishes which came with salad , etc . These were just right for a Pub Lunch , as well as the spacious car park at the side rear for your car . It is also dog friendly as we had one with us this time , it's opposite Coleridge's Cottage (National Trust) . The village itself is delightful , worth a visit in its own right .

We visited this restaurant last year as a pit stop before heading to North Devon, and decided to do the same this year. It appears to have new owners since our last visit, but they were still friendly and everything went smoothly. The room we stayed in was lovely and we enjoyed delicious food in the pub. The room was just right for our family of 4, with no complaints. The breakfast the next morning was fantastic and got us off to a good start for the day. Our stay in Nether Stowey was great - it's a hidden gem. Ver carta

I went to the restaurant expecting to try the special of the day, but was told it was not available on Sundays. Instead, I ordered the vegetarian option, which was supposed to be a nut roast, but ended up being a bland and unexciting vegetable pie with no protein. By the time the food arrived at 1:45 pm, over an hour after we had arrived at 12:45 pm, I was too hungry to complain. The vegetables and roast potatoes were basic and not very impressive. To make matters worse, my friend had Yorkshire pudding with her chicken while I was served a soggy roulade. Overall, it was not a good experience and I would not go back.

The Ancient Mariner was vey welcoming. The B&B accommodation, which consists of what looks like a row of charming cottages, is quiet and really comfortable. There was a large walk in shower in the ensuite, the beds were comfortable and everything was beautifully clean. My partner is disabled and the Ancient Mariner suited us very well. It is obviously a great place for dog lovers too and we saw lots of people enjoying a stay with their very well behaved pets. The breakfast was amazing, lots of starters and a huge full English of egg, bacon, black pudding, hash browns, baked beans, mushrooms, tomato and sausage! There is lovely walking in the area and such a breakfast would set you up for the...

As the reception is at the end of a bar it was perhaps the best reception I’ve ever had… room key served with an excellent value ice cold half of San Miguel draft after a long drive. Room was clean, although remote control for tv is often over looked so I cleaned that on the teams behalf: ideally cotton ear bud to get between the buttons. Shower is slippery when wet but didn’t actually slip just warned. Breakfast in the morning ticked the box. Value for money was very good. Reason for visit: nearby wedding, other guests stayed in the village and we were picked up by wedding bus to take us to venue. Had a pint at the George inn too. Lovely experience. The young chap on the bar on Friday after... Ver carta

Stayed overnight here on way to Cornwall, on Friday, 15th August. Room was quite spacious, plenty big enough for us and pet dog with cage. Bathroom was also spacious, which was a wet room, ideal for disabled access, as indeed was the entrance door! Flat level access, car parked ten yards away, literally! Short walk to the pub itself, which provided a scrumptious evening meal, and beers at reasonable prices, not at all 'rip off ' prices!!! Obviously to cater for the local community, who were very friendly and chatty. The village of Nether Stowey is very nice, well worth a longer stay than we had unfortunately!! Breakfast was more than adequate, and very quickly served up, along with full Engl...

Stayed here for one night to extend and break up our holiday from Devon back home to the Midlands. The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and had everything that we needed including a clean kettle, tea, coffee and bottles of water. The bed was clean and comfortable along with the bathroom which was a wet room. It was a dog friendly accommodation and couldn't smell that any dogs had actually stayed there. We didn't eat there in the evening due to having a big lunch in Minehead. My in-laws who were staying next door came over in the evening and we played cards and had nibbles. The room was spacious enough for that. The rooms are at the rear of the pub next to the car park and there ate public...

"Been wanting to try this ‘alternative’ pub for a while. Large car park with plenty of space, no steps or slopes into the bar. Access for buggies, wheelchairs etc should be okay, my mother walks with the aid of a frame and has no issues. Inside the decor is certainly alternative but in a great way, loved it! Plenty to look at, keep you entertained and talk about as you wait for your food or just pass the time. Staff were friendly and welcoming, there was just one guy running the bar, taking food orders and bringing food out; I thought he needed a helper or coworker really. There is a decent bar area with seating or there is more ‘restaurant’ style seating further back beyond the bar. We chose to sit in the bar area seating which is a mixture of booth and chairs. Dogs are allowed in which is great, there is free Wi-Fi which is good as my mobile signal was very poor. The menu is standard pub food, quite a bit of choice and plenty of options for gluten free. I chose to have the fillet steak cooked medium, I had a starter of garlic bread but chose for it all to come out together. Mother had beef brisket loaded fries, the portion was massive so I had to help her finish it. The steak was perfectly cooked, I chose to have the peppercorn sauce; this was a bit watery and bland. The steak comes with chunky chips, peas, mushrooms, tomatoes and onion rings. For dessert I had the nutty apple crumble with ice cream, it was okay. Overall this is a great venue with acceptable food, friendly staff and awesome decor that will keep you talking and looking all night. Based on this experience I would visit again."
