"I love pubs! How many times do you hear that? I only properly discovered them 18 years ago because in France, although we have our cafes, they are nothing like pubs. I fairly quickly categorised them because when you think about it, they are all different. The best description for me for this one is a town pub full of character. I discovered it thanks to a friend and started going to hold a French Conservation group. I have only had drinks so far and believe me if you are after reasonable prices you have to go to the Gladstone. I have recently paid £2 in another place for a soda and lime. Here they charge you £0.30. And before you ask, no, it's not because it's served in a shot glass. When you enter the premises you will notice first the space. It has got room but you also can decide to sit in a smaller area. There is a fire place which is really nice especially at this time if the year. I went last Saturday to meet with a friend and we decided to have something to eat. If you want a night out but your are on restricted budget this is the place where to go. Ok the menu doesn't give you a massive choice as some do but in fact think about it, it won't take you too long to make your decision. The choice is good and the prices quite low. If you are vegetarian they certainly have thought about you. I am not but to be fair I've always wondered why the choices seem to be so restricted for those who are when eating out? I ended with the chilly beef and cheese. I like the fact you can choose to have it with rice or bread. The serving is good and I really enjoyed it. It was very tasty. The staffs work hard, are very pleasant and easy to interact with which is exactly what you want in a pub. It's a place with great atmosphere. And if you enjoy watching tv in a pub this is certainly the place where to go. It was a very reasonable and enjoyable night out. I'll be back!"

"A group of 9 visited for the Sunday buffet for a double Birthday celebration. We requested an additional seat at very short notice which was actioned immediately. The service, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The food, plentiful and tasty. A lovely afternoon full of fab company, conversation and celebration with delicious Chinese food. Buffet included starters, mains and desserts. I provided celebratory cakes and candles that came out as requested with candles. Free parking in Stowmarket car parks on Sundays an added bonus. We had our table from midday and left around 14.45. We are all looking forward to another visit and will certainly book again in the future . Thank you for ensuring a surprise get together was a special afternoon out enjoyed by friends and family. Parking: Free parking available on Sundays in B M to the rear of the restaurant or the Theatre opposite the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Children were welcomed and catered for. Wheelchair accessibility: No steps in or out and a wide doorway. "I wish I could pick The Highwayman up and move it back home with us! The atmosphere was so warm and relaxing, and the service was absolutely perfect with a very welcoming man behind the bar, and a lovely waitress who made sure we had everything we needed with our meal. The food was exceptional, exactly what we needed after a 3 1/2 hour car journey. I could not fault anything about our meal at The Highwayman and I would like to thank the team there for making it such an enjoyable evening for us! Vegetarian options: There is a board of vegetarian options. The red lentil and aubergine moussaka was delicious!"

"Been meaning to review for a while as the meal my partner and I had here has been etched into my mind for all the wrong reasons. I had a veggie lasagne and (I am no fussy eater) it was very challenging to eat indeed....Veg slop, very bland and veg tasted frozen. Partner had gammon and chips, gammon was fried like bacon and so tough it genuinely made his jaw ache. Dog seemed happy with it though. Staff nice enough."

"Visited for a meal as we are local, The food was fresh (which was good as there was half an hour wait for it) The pub is clean and the staff are friendly, but I do feel the meals are a bit overpriced for pub...grub'. It would be nicer if there was a family room as children running up and down screaming is not conducive to a relaxing atmosphere."
