"Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant...Travelled from Cornwall. To see my freinds family and decided to come here for dinner. And was so happy we did. Food was excellent, cooked fresh full of flavour. All staff was so welcoming and made our stay. Even the main chef Ram came out and thanked us for eating his lovely food. "We have ordered from Bay Leaf in Heanor a few times and have always been impressed by the high quality of the food. The tandoori chicken is especially delicious, and we love how they use it in their butter chicken dish as well. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant itself is clean and spacious. I would feel comfortable dining in with my daughter now that she is a bit older. The food has consistently been excellent, and we hope that once they receive their hygiene certificate, they will become a 5-star establishment. We have never had any issues with the food quality, and have ordered takeout from Bay Leaf at least six times in the past year."

"We booked a table for 4 people (at 1pm) for Thursday 29th December. I have to admit, apart from the fish on the plates, (chips weren’t good) it must have been our worst experience at The Thorn Tree. I don’t know if you have a new owner/manager or staff but none of the “happy staff” that we have been used to we’re working yesterday. There was one young man that from what we could see, was only just managing to cope. He was literally running the bar/orders/seeting and serving single handed. This guy was doing great, to say that he had no help on the outside of the kitchen. The chips were certainly the worst we have ever been served. Lots of tiny pointed chips and quite a few chips were green fleshed. We would usually have stayed for desserts but the whole restaurant was “uncomfortably cold”. We understand that heating and energy prices have increased dramatically but myself and many others, are not prepared to pay good money, to sit and eat/drink in an uncomfortably cold restaurant. I would have certainly left this review on TripAdvisor but I have been told in the past “our TripAdvisor account has been compromised by a former employee”. So I’m not sure that there is much point, apart from sharing my opinions with others. In the past, I have always recommended and highly rated The Thorn Tree but no more"

"I had a wonderful meal here with my family, which included a total of nine people, along with a small child. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived until the end of our meal. The food was served quickly, piping hot, and all at once. The portions were generous and satisfying. We also enjoyed a beautifully presented dessert that was a good size. My partner had the squash pudding, which came with plenty of crispy toppings—definitely not a tiny portion! Overall, it was excellent value for money. I was genuinely impressed and will definitely return."
