"We visited on Sunday lunchtime as a party of 7. I called twice to add to our party this was done efficiently. On arrival the car park was full. I had a disabled guest and the two disabled spaces were taken by cars with no badges displayed however luckily a small space came available so no harm however if this had not it would have been a long walk from the road and we would have probably thought twice about bothering. Anyway we were a bit early so decided on a drink outside as it was nice. The lady behind the bar was super friendly and helpful allowing a small taster of ales beforehand. Outside seating is pleasant overlooking the lock and is probably the selling point of this place. We went inside to eat and were slightly surprised no Sunday roast was on the menu and I think they are missing a trick there. Starters were wings, calamari, Welsh rarebit, mushrooms and Camembert and being brutally honest none of them were worth talking about. For the mains we had chicken burger, beef burger, pizza, pie and fish (haddock) and chips. The winner hands down was the haddock! A huge fleshy portion with nice batter. Pizzas were also nice, good base, burgers did as said on the tin but the pie was least favourite. We didn’t have puds as too full. In my opinion the food needs tweaking not the cooking, it was cooked perfectly well but the menu needs a bit of work as the choices were pretty uninspiring and dull. Now it sounds like I’m being negative but really the reason for the honest review is this place has so much potential because the staff here are lovely and really seem to want to make it a huge success. The lady on front of house was really bubbly and went over and above to make our experience good. Our waiter was delightful and discreet but there when u needed anything all smiley and pleasant. The restaurant itself is comfortable, bright and clean. All in all I would give 8/10. If the menu choice were better it would be at least 9.5. We will return again"

Disappointing, very restricted menu, food average, didn't realise it closed at 9pm but were hurried along so that we would leave, bar lights turned off doors locked to the patio. Won't be recommending.

We had a fantastic murder mystery night at this restaurant! The food and service were great, and the entertainment was brilliant. The manageress was a wonderful host, and overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

My family had a disappointing experience during our lunch visit today. There was no table service, and the menu was limited and overpriced. There were no options for starters or Sunday roast. The meals we ordered were disappointing, lacking in flavor and only lukewarm. Despite being in a good location, the restaurant did not fully take advantage of its potential. We will not be returning.

We stopped here for a drink recently. Our first problem was finding our way in! The old entrance over the bridge is inaccessible and there were no signs anywhere, so we tried going the the car park at the rest and eventually discovered the entrance. We were surprised cash was not accepted here, luckily one of us has a debit card. The drinks were quite expensive. Outside is very scruffy with an abundance of weeds, and some uncleared tables. We were not impressed.

What has happened to the food at The Boathouse? They weren't busy and our food order was first in. My burger was the worst I have ever had. I should of sent it straight back but persevered as was with a friend and didn't want to make a fuss. It was overcooked, so dry and the chips were luke warm. There is no attention to presentation, and their lovely ranch sauce has been replaced with standard ketchup in a paper cup how I hate those paper vessels with their minimum content. I did complain and got 10 percent of the bill then gave it back in a service charge! It's a shame as the location is lovely, but I won't be going back.

Our visit to this restaurant was disappointing as the menu had changed from what we had expected for a birthday celebration, with no starters and a limited selection of dishes. The customer service was terrible and the service was very slow. One member of our party received their main course over 5 minutes after everyone else. When we ordered desserts, four were brought out together but the fifth never arrived. After speaking with a waitress who said she would address the issue but never did, we had to speak with the manager who eventually resolved the situation and gave us a refund. It is a shame as the pub is in a lovely location and serves good food.

"I feel a bit bad about writing this, but for the first time ever there 's only 1 star and probably the longest comments I 've left. We arrived around 12:15 on a September Thursday after having a walk hungry, we fancied a pub lunch. Staff were pleasant if a bit rushed the young lady behind the bar was on her own and doing the best she could. Several things were off the menu, but we ordered a Curry of the day (Thai Green on this occasion) and sausage mash with gravy. Difficult things to screw up... After a reasonable wait, two small dishes appeared. The Thai Curry was tiny, containing a few small bits of grilled chicken in a fairly anaemic sauce, with a small amount of plain white rice on the side; the two sausages were quite small and on a small bed of mash surrounded by gravy. Both dishes were stone cold. We sent them back. Frankly, if we hadn 't paid in advance, I 'd have left at that point. A few minutes later they re appeared, along with a small dish of sweet chilli sauce and 3 small prawn crackers, two of which were not properly cooked (still solid in parts, i.e. not cooked hot or long enough). The sausages were now hot, the mash lukewarm and the gravy cloying and still pretty cold. Being fair, the very small sausages were quite tasty, but the mash was under/not seasoned and the gravy had little flavour, no onion or anything even vaguely interesting, and was still cold. The curry was a disgrace. The rice was flaccid and tasteless, the curry had almost no flavour and the chicken was watery, and pretty grim (tasteless too). Tiny portion as well. We left the curry. I did eat the sausage mash as I was really hungry, but in retrospect wished I hadn 't. I almost never leave food anywhere in the world, but I left that curry. I 'm not sure how dishes that bad could be let out of any kitchen. We complained to the waitress (who was doing her best) she asked us not to leave and a minute or two later refunded our main courses with an apology. I felt for her as she was doing her best as front of house when the kitchen was a shocker. Note that we didn 't ask for a refund or even hint, they just provided it. I 've never asked for a refund. It 's sad, as these days rural pubs need to do things right, but this wasn 't just small things; everything they could have done wrong with those two dishes they did wrong. Nothing cooked from fresh, nothing checked before leaving the kitchen, tasteless food, tiny portions, cold."
