"We visited the butchers arms for a family Sunday roast today and had the worst experience. The roast was pretty much inedible the “roast sirloin of beef” was grey and cold! The veg was wilted and undercooked. The roast potatoes were grease filled and over cooked! Yorkshire pudding was not homemade when we complained to the manager he was nothing more then aggressive and rude! He suggested that this was not the establishment for us?!? He refused to refund us and his bar maids were disgustingly rude and were laughing at me and when I tried to explain that none of us had eaten our dinner. We spent £120 on food and I have never been so insulted in my life and when he finally agreed to give me a refund he threw the money at me! Put it this way I will not be returning. Leaving this post to warn others of the terrible roast at the butchers arms and the horrific customer service! What ever happened to the customer is always right."

Decent food and friendly service in a crisp clean venue. Dog friendly, not too busy, great for a relaxed meal and a chat

We arrived unannounced and were warmly welcomed and served a delicious large Sunday roast and lovely cheesecake. Would thoroughly recommend this pub and will be revisiting again soon.

Had a smashing meal here last night, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Garden area has loads for kids to do and dogs are welcome in the garden. Generous portions! Would definitely recommend.

Arrived at lunchtime on a Sunday needing to break the journey, so we stopped for a drink. Place is clearly more food orientated than just a drinking place but service was good . Drinks a little pricey but the real entertainment was the banter between the landlord and the waitresses

Called in for lunch midweek on the off chance. They were quite busy but extremely happy to accommodate us. Superbly cooked sirloin steak with pepppercorn sauce and home made vegetable chili. Beautiful and clean, efficient and very friendly service along with great food…we will be returning very soon

The food at this restaurant was subpar and took a long time to arrive. The chips tasted stale, the frozen vegetables were very hard, and the liver was mushy and inedible. The steak and burgers appeared to be broiled without any searing. Additionally, our request for no ice in our drinks was ignored. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience.

Late decision to go for Sunday lunch. Managed to fit 2 of us in, which was very accommodating. Very friendly staff and very attentive. Lunch was served very promptly, which was surprisingly, seeing how busy they were. The lunch was huge, just managed to squeeze a dessert in though. All very tasty and well cooked. Will definitely be back. Hats off to you

Just returned home from a visit to The Butcher 's Arms for Sunday lunch. The food was very nice, but the welcome from the Landlord not nice at all. When my husband myself arrived there wasn 't any staff around to show us which table we were to be sitting at. I walked up to the bar, which was next to the restaurant the landlord was sitting at the bar. No hello or anything from him, he pointed to my little dog said "He 's not going in the restaurant!!! . I replied to him that we had no intention of eating in the restaurant, we did indeed have a table booked in the bar area. No word of sorry from him, just a smug grin of embarrassment. The food staff were very good. Shame about the frosty welco...

"We have lived in Dunmow for 25 years and have always visited this pub through its various ownerships. We had not been for a while, until after I had a life saving major heart operation last year and this was the first place we chose to go for breakfast when I came out of hospital. We have continued to go since then on a regular basis and it never fails to satisfy. We have always been served by Lorraine since the first day we went and she has been fantastic. Last weekend was a year since I had the operation and we chose to go back for a small family meal to celebrate the success of the day. Well what can I say, my wife had other ideas and with the help of Lorraine she organised a surprise gathering of family and friends in a cordoned off part of the marquee with buffet. What made it even more special was that they don't normally do a buffet on a Sunday as it is normally roast dinner only. After Lorraine explained to her manager the importance of the day she was more than happy to help make the day happen. For this I am really grateful, and despite not getting the steak dinner I thought I was having it was so much better. Thank you to everyone involved as I know the organisation for this on a day you would not normally do it would have been a challenge. We will continue to go for breakfast whenever we can and hope that Lorraine is always there."
