"It was my 68th birthday and I wanted to do something in Bishops Castle that I hadn 't done before after living here for 4 a half years. But what? Mmm...early February in Bishops Castle? I discounted the usual suspects as glad as I was to see them emerging from the dark days of a not too bad winter. It had to be.....The Chai Shop! So wandering hopefully past with the windows steamed I popped in to see Tahira Tara AKA and booked myself in for the week after. One week later I arrived with my bottle of beer where a wonderful welcome was given and it wasn 't long until my plate of lamb rogon josh with pilau rice with a couple of accoutrements creme fresh sweet relish and a bowl of salad arrived. It was delicious especially after my invigorating walk along Kerry Ridgway while dipping down on the Churchstoke side what a view!! 4 hours previously. With the Chai Shop to my own I had a great natter with 'Tara ' about her life on the hills, her house, her passion for painting and the coming and goings of life in 'BC ' in general. And then as if by magic...2 slices of birthday cake and a cup of chai arrived...gratis for my birthday! Wow! Anyway, I 'd arrived at 4pm in the light and it was now darkened 5:30pm and if I 'd outstayed my welcome I certainly wasn 't made to feel it. Delicious food and engaging company had rounded off my day and I realised what Tara and her small chai shop adds to the life of my town that 's taken a knock over the last few years. Answer...a lot! I shall be back, of that I 'm certain. Tahira...I rename you Tiara!! ;"

Lovely fresh samosa with salad for lunch, they do takeaways. Great chat with the owner about her cooking style and ethos. Far better than a pub sandwich. Will return for sure

A tiny quirky eating place if you love curry don't miss it! The cardamon cake was the best! I also bought a few locally made cards and had a good chat with the owner. A very pleasant interlude.

This restaurant is a completely different experience , the host is very friendly and loves sharing her experiences with customers who all seem to know her. We had a mixed vegetarian plate each , every curry was different and it was impossible to choose a favourite. I loved it there

I stopped by this afternoon for a coffee and was greeted by a wonderfully friendly lady. Although all I wanted was a drink, I ended up receiving a wealth of knowledge from Ruth, the woman I believe was serving me, and enjoyed a great conversation. And the coffee was fantastic as well! Ver carta

Visited this afternoon and the lady was more than happy to accommodate us with our requests, despite obviously having had a very busy day over the Easter weekend. Ordered veg samosas and onion bhajis and wow! They were absolutely amazing and can’t rate them highly enough. A must if you’re in the area and we will be back (even if it’s just for the Chai Shop).

This small cafe offers both takeout and dine-in options. All the dishes are cooked fresh in the open kitchen. We started with Vegetable Bhargies, served straight from the stove with homemade lime pickle. For our main course, we had a Goan vegetable curry and Chicken Masala. The food was flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. To finish off our meal, we enjoyed a delicious homemade lime and coconut cake. I highly recommend this place.

During a recent holiday visit, I stumbled upon this charming Indian café. I treated myself to some Goan vegetable curry with rice, a lamb samosa, a slice each of lime coconut and cardamom cake, all of which were homemade and freshly cooked. Despite my experience with Indian cuisine, I have never come across homecooked food as delicious as this. The service was incredibly friendly as well. If you ever find yourself in Bishops Castle, I highly recommend stopping by The Chai Shop! Ver carta

What a gem! My friend and I stumbled upon this Indian cafe whilst in Bishops Castle ready to do our touring opera show that night. Tara is an exceptional host and the food was exceptional! She is also a talented comedienne and artist! A wonderful community atmosphere, where, if you wish you can chat with everyone....which we did... Everyone then came and supported our opera that evening... proper Indian food and Tara caters for gluten free too! A very special place... we will be back there! Thank you xx

What a delightful lunch we had at the Chai House this week. The food was delicious, prepared in the traditional Indian way so it’s not greasy. But, what made is so special was not just the food but the sense of community there. The owner Tara) is an amazing cook but also a very funny, engaging and entertaining host. She is happy to let people eat quietly if that’s what they would like to do but we thoroughly enjoyed the sense of community as we chatted to three people a father/daughter and an older gentleman who frequents Chai House very regularly) on the other table. If you do go, ask Tara about her alter egos she is bright and very talented not to mention her artwork on the walls). We’ll d...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
