"The Bell in Ticehurst is nestled in the picturesque village of Ticehurst, which is known for its stunning natural beauty. It's a place where you can find Pashley Manor Gardens, one of the finest gardens in England, and Dale Hill Golf Course and Hotel, a splendid course designed by Ian Woosnam. Now, let's talk about The Bell itself. This cosy and dog-friendly pub has a fascinating history that dates back to around 1560. And let me tell you, the quirkiness of this place is off the charts! Just take a peek at the gents' loo, where the functioning urinals are none other than Wagner tubas. It's a sight you won't soon forget! When it comes to staying at The Bell, you'll be delighted to find seven bedrooms above the pub, each adorned with its own silver birch tree. And if you're in the mood for something more rustic and romantic, there are four charming lodges to choose from. Now, let's get to the food experience. I must admit, my visit wasn't the best timing, as we arrived during the late lunch hours when the kitchen was almost closing. However, the staff kindly agreed to serve us lunch. The burger we ordered, though not particularly impressive, was a tad on the dry side. And the classic fish chips, while flavorful, had a slightly excessive saltiness to it. But despite these minor hiccups, the overall experience at The Bell was still enjoyable. The staff, including the friendly and attentive Marcus (apologies if I misspelled your name), made us feel welcome. And I must give a shoutout to the young gentleman who went out of his way to ensure our satisfaction. So, while the food may not have been outstanding on this particular visit, I have no doubt that The Bell has the potential to serve much better dishes. It's a unique and charming place to stay, and I believe it's worth a visit for its ambiance and character alone. Cheers! Nick #Doctorfoodielondon"

The Greedy Goat Cafe

Church Street, TN5 7AB, Rother, United Kingdom

"I am a local resident in the area and had never noticed this café before. While I was waiting for my medication at the neighboring pharmacy, I decided to grab a drink and a pastry. I ordered a fizzy Elderflower drink and a pastry, which surprisingly costed just under £10! Despite the high price, I paid for it and went to the back of the café, which seemed to be a back room. Unfortunately, the café's decor was not appealing at all. They went for a mismatched look, but it was clear that they had not invested much in the decor, making it unappealing. Additionally, there was a strong smell of old greasy food in the air. I sat down at a table, sipped my drink, which was okay, and started on the pastry. It was disappointing and definitely not worth the price. It seemed like they bought the pastry cheaply and charged a high markup. The menu prices were also shockingly high. I compared it to a farm shop called Eggs to Apples a few miles away, which has higher prices but offers good food, excellent service, and well-decorated dining area. The Greedy Goat café charging similar prices didn't make sense to me. I left the café feeling ripped off and carrying the remainder of my Elderflower drink, leaving the pastry behind. I am disappointed with the quality of the food and feel like I could have cooked better at home. I strongly recommend avoiding this place as it just seems like a typical greasy spoon."
