"After decades of living in England and living with chippy menus that largely comprise fish, pies and sausage, I was delighted when, while on holiday nearby and perusing The Chippy 's menu online, my wife asked, 'What do they do? ' Half an hour later I had just about finished reeling off the delicacies on offer. But I already knew what I was having.. a white pudding supper. My first for years. The Chippy didn 't disappoint. Friendly service, really tasty pudding, decent sized portion of great chips, eaten on a bench in the little park across the road in the fading evening sunlight. Perfect. And my wife still says it was the best meal of the holiday."

It was good enough but a very small piece of fish. Normally if its a small fish you get a fish and a half

Excellent mock chop and breaded fish dinners made fresh to order. The staff is very helpful and there is seating available for dine-in if needed.

Had one supper here with a long wait for the order. It was also clear from the discussions and telephone conversations that some orders were incorrect. The fish and chips were okay. Ver carta

While staying at a nearby hotel, I dined at this restaurant twice. The first time, the food was freshly cooked and delicious. However, during the second visit, the chips were not freshly cooked and were only warm. This made most of the chips inedible, and I ended up throwing most of them away.

I pop in here quite regularly for chips, etc and have always found it to be great. Fresh, lovely homemade chips. Unfortunately, when I wanted to take my family on Sunday it was closed and we decided to try the nearby kebab shop on Leslie St which we thought might be good as it's always busy. Turns out busy does not equal good-it was absolutely dire, really bad. I will be sticking to the Chippy in future or doing without. Ver carta

The restaurant was supposed to close at 8:30pm, but when I arrived at 7:50pm and ordered two fish suppers, they initially refused to serve me since they were closing soon. After some persuasion, they reluctantly served me, but were rude about it. They also forgot to give me change, and only did so after I asked for it, with the girl apologizing sarcastically. Overall, it was a terrible experience, and while the food was decent, I would not return.

So got stranded in blair for an hour, went to the chippy to get myself and my son something warm to eat while we waited. After waiting 15 minutes this was we got served for £4 EACH? what a complete and total rip off for a handful of chips and some brown water, sorry, bisto) gravy. Lesson learned convienece doesn't necessarily mean quality. Should have known better the quality would be poor from the entire lack of atmosphere and staff enthusiasm. Avoid at all costs. rating it 1 because at least it was warm.

"We visited to see the Beatrix Potter Exhibition with family who were visiting and spent a lovely hour going around the exhibition, however our nice time was rudely interrupted by the elderly lady working in the cafe with dyed black curly hair. We have one child with serious allergies, so instead of one child feeling left out and risking cross exposure, we packed safe snacks for all the kids going anywhere with allergies is an absolute nightmare, so we always do this. Most places are trained and appreciative of how hard it is to eat out with allergens and happy to make reasonable adjustments for this. All four adults ate from the cafe. When part of our order was delivered, we were told “this isn’t a picnic area, you can’t eat your own food, you wouldn’t take food in to McDonald’s” (whilst looking at the 2 year old eating her snacks) when I responded yes I actually would, we have a child with allergies, she asked if it was serious allergies to which I said yes and she scoffed and left, no apology, nothing. I must add that whether the children would be eating or not, they would still have to sit at the table and take up the same amount of space. Would the children also be prevented from sitting because they didn’t buy from the cafe? Still waiting on my food order twenty minutes later and having already finished my coffee and frustrated at the wait, I asked for a refund as we now felt hurried to leave because of how upset she was at the children eating snacks at the table without purchasing them in their cafe. I got the refund for my missing meal and we left without going to the shop or seeing the other art, it has left a bad taste in my mouth. We spent just shy of £100 in the place and to be spoken to like that was horrible. The elderly employee with dyed black hair really needs some training on customer service and manners. The way she looked at us as we left was awful, we will not be returning. This place is not welcoming of children or those with allergies I dread to think how they would react to someone who is tube fed, probably told to eat outside just avoid."
