"We were looking for a local place to dine once or twice a month, but unfortunately, despite having new owners and a nice renovation, this restaurant didn't meet our expectations. We had to wait 55 minutes for our pizza and tapas, which arrived together and were lukewarm. The quality of the food was disappointing, with overpriced items like pitta bread and store-bought hummus. The meatballs lacked flavor and the garlic mushrooms were lacking in garlic. We were grateful that we ordered a pizza for our daughter, as we may have needed to stop at a chip shop on the way home otherwise. There was no dessert offered and it's unclear if they even have any available. When I ordered a beer with my meal, it took 25 minutes to arrive, and the response I received when I asked about it was not very friendly. Overall, the value for the price we paid was poor, with the menu on their Facebook page being outdated as well. It's a shame because we really wanted to like this place, but we won't be returning for food in the future."

A super little place, very cosy. Well priced great quality food. We had a lovely full English cooked by Dan, who we were told is the new member of staff. A positive start to the day.

Stumbled across this place for a quick lunch and so glad we did. Nice place, modern and relaxed. Friendly staff and amazing fish finger sandwiches with home cooked chips. Amazing value for money too. Can't waiting to go back. Ver carta

My partner and I went to the Counting House for lunch on Saturday, June 24, 2023, marking our first visit since the restaurant changed ownership. Our usual meal of BBQ chicken pizza with a side of garlic bread tasted even better than before, and we noticed that the menu had been thoughtfully updated. We both thought that the food was great value for the price. The owner and chef were attentive, and we are excited to see them again on our next visit.

What a great place! I suppose you 'd class it as a restaurant but that makes is sound pretentious and it 's not. It 's relaxed like a bistro but more chic. Whatever it 's handle, it 's a fab place to eat. Food is first rate and I guess you 've got to be local to know about it and I suppose the locals want to keep it to themselves! Come and try it. It 's off the beaten track in Bessecar but worth the journey. I see someone 's already given it a glowing accolade Best Fish Finger Sandwich and he 's not wrong there. I 've tried a few in my time Hilton in Newcastle, Mercure in Sheffield, et al but nothing compares. Wonderfully tasty and squishy in thick white bread (other dough based options are...

"The welcome we received was pleasant, although not very personal, and our details were not checked, which was surprising considering how difficult it was to secure a reservation. The restaurant is not licensed, so guests are welcome to bring their own drinks. My husband and I brought two bottles of champagne, but we were not offered an ice bucket and were given standard wine glasses instead of flutes. The food was served promptly, starting with an amuse bouche of butternut squash veloute with a creamy accompaniment served in egg boxes. The chef explained the dish himself, and it was delicious. The second course, an aged rice dish reminiscent of a soupy risotto flavored with parmesan and espresso, was my least favorite. I found it poorly presented and the coffee flavor didn't come through well. The third course, a beautifully cooked lamb cutlet finished on a barbecue outside, was accompanied by flavorful lentils. However, the broccoli that came with it was plain and could have used some additional flavor. The dish was not explained to us. The fourth dish, which I initially thought was eel, turned out to be smoked eel and was served with beetroot. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night. We were served two desserts: a warm chocolate foam with orange sorbet and a deconstructed rhubarb custard with pink meringue pieces, both of which were delicious. The bill was not presented to us, so we followed the lead of other guests who left cash on the table as they left. My husband had a nice chat with the chef, and I joined in after a visit to the restroom. The chef was very knowledgeable and skilled with flavors. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of personality in presenting and explaining each dish. The experience felt somewhat impersonal and lacked interest. I believe guest interaction is crucial, so my tip would be for the restaurant to take the time to engage with guests, even if it means spending less time in the kitchen. I did not give a perfect score due to the presentation and slightly underwhelming flavors in some dishes. I believe that in fine dining, every element of the dish should be bursting with flavor. Despite this, we had an enjoyable evening and would return if we are able to secure a reservation."
