"The Deli of Malton is a small shop in the market square of this delightful North Yorkshire market town. Mrs Wanderer and I arrived about 11am and decided to pop into the deli for a quick coffee. We were seated in one of the two 4-seater tables in the window and we ordered two Americanos with some milk on the side. They were reasonably quick in coming although a little disappointing. The coffee tasted to me like it was filter coffee although my wife assured me that it had been made on a traditional espresso machine. The coffee arrived in 5-inch tall white ceramic mugs presented on a similar saucer but without teaspoons. I approached the counter to see if there were any . There was a small cutlery tray to the right containing knives and forks but no spoons. I asked the young waitress for two. She seemed a little surprised that I needed them (perhaps we were expected to stir the drinks with our fingers) but gave them to me none-the-less. No apology though for not bringing them with the coffees in the first place. The mugs in my view are far to big for the job in hand. A smaller nicely rounded coffee cup would be so much more appealing and not hold so much coffee that we had to leave some. My wife's mug had a dried on dribble of coffee down the length of one side and the saucer of mine was chipped on the edge. A bit more care in making the coffee wouldn't go amiss so that it doesn't spill down the side. For god's sake retire any broken or chipped crockery! The milk arrived in a small ceramic cup, not a jug. The problem here is that without a spout milk goes everywhere, and in our case over the tablecloth. I'm sure the deli is very popular on market days, and there is a larger restaurant area towards the back of the store to cater for more people. Not having tried the food offerings I can't comment on that but I'm not sure we'll pay a return visit to find out."

Couldn't believe the price for four cheese scones came to £8, It wouldn't have mattered if there had been extra cheese in but they had the smallest amount inside. Feel ripped off, very disappointed.

Lovely food, too much really, good price. Very welcoming and friendly staff. We had to wait for a table which was not an issue and we understood why, the platter for two we had was amazing. Definitely recommend

We called at The Deli on Tuesday for a lunch on our way home.It was a terrible experience the worst meal ever. The tables were dirty , the service was very slow there was 4 in the party we ordered 1 soup 1 cottage pie...

Stopped here as we always like a sandwich and chips at lunchtime. We were not disappointed. Amazing food and a great service from Michelle and her twin wink wink). To be honest ALL the food on the vast menu looked gorgeous. Thank you!

We stopped in Malton on our way to the east coast and discovered this fantastic restaurant for lunch. There is free parking for up to 2 hours within 50 yards of the restaurant. The menu offers traditional options as well as unique and ever-changing specials.

I stumbled upon this restaurant looking for a nice breakfast and decided to order the veggie option. I was amazed at how perfectly cooked each component was. The eggs were cooked just right, the mushrooms and spinach were seasoned perfectly with garlic. I truly believe the chef here could be on MasterChef with skills like this.

Never been before almost walked past because I could only see three or four tables and they were all full but a local informed us there were more tables in the back. Staff very polite and helpful couldn’t fault them. Decent menu and plenty of specials. We had jacket tatty with tuna, tuna baguette, trio of pate platter and a three cheese platter. All lovely the two platter could have fed at least 3 people. Fantastic value for money. Need to lay down now!! If you are on Malton and hungry this is the place to go.
