"We arrived soaking wet during a heavy rainfall and after I enquired regarding the availability of a table was answered by a petite dark haired woman (a member of staff who needs customer focused training), who informed me in an extremely curt and abrupt manner that, “if you notice I am about to clear and clean that table.” I hadn’t noticed and as she didn’t have any cleaning materials in her hand at the time was rather confused, up but we waited patiently whilst she eventually cleared and cleaned. Later the same member of staff came to take our order, again in a curt manner. When she returned with an incorrect order her reaction was that it was our fault that she had confused the order and she flounced off without a word of apology. Another member of staff delivered our tea cakes and then our coffees arrived and were again delivered by the original member of staff with what I can only describe as a reluctant and irritated manner. Maybe we were treated like this as the norm for that particular member of staff, maybe she had an ‘off day’ or was it because we were ignorant southerners who did not understand the ordering/paying system? Why the original member of staff bothers to work in the cafe is bizarre if she dislikes visitors and/or waiting at table? Maybe a job working behind the scenes would be more suitable for her? Whatever the reason for her manner it left a nasty taste in our mouths!"

We have had lunch here a few times. The experience is always excellent with tasty food, excellent coffee and friendly, efficient service.

I stumbled upon this amazing restaurant and was blown away by the delicious homemade cakes, perfectly crafted coffee, and the friendly service from a charming young man taking our orders. This place is truly a hidden gem and is definitely worth a visit. Thank you so much. Date of visit: October 28th.

Great coffee and the orange and poppy seed cake was very tasty. Husband had the giant tea cake and he said it was delicious. Had a good laugh with the owner when the young lad helping, was screwing up a plastic milk bottle only for the top to fly off and hit me. A great place and we will be going back for another coffee before we leave Hawes.

The coffee at this restaurant is fantastic and the cake is delicious. The interior is decorated with lots of bike-related items. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. When I expressed my disappointment about the closure of the Rope works, they recommended a visit to a nearby mill, which turned out to be a great suggestion. Thank you for the tip!

This was my second visit to this charming cafe that celebrates cyclists. It may be easy to miss since it's hidden away in the old railway station, but it's a hidden gem with lots of character and delicious food. I tried the roast pepper and sweet potato soup with a Wensleydale cheese and chutney sandwich, which was absolutely delicious and only cost £7.50. Plus, they are dog-friendly as well.

Stopped off for late morning barm cake with sausage/egg and bacon or just egg. Food and coffee was very good and the atmosphere and staff friendly. It was a very wet week when we stayed locally and the place was busy either for take away or dine in. Not a big place and our party of 6 took up 3 tables, overall inside maybe 10 tables, includes couch in ordering area but when its dry there is some seating outside. Overall very enjoyable and would go again. You can access the cafe via the National Park Centre or direct through cafe entrance.

We had lunch here and decided on a giant teacake and cup of tea. The tea came in a mug that clearly hadn't been washed properly as it had mouth drip marks down it and a ring round the top of the mug where the previous users drink had been. I waited a few mins to exchange but the girls were working in the back so decided just to pour it into a clean mug on the top. Our teacakes came 10 mins later, absolutely cremated on the tops, I would guess they had set on fire before being served. Bearing in mind COVID, we were pretty disgusted. Sort yourselves out.

Our experience was a hodgepodge of good and bad, hence the average review…it is a quirky little spot in a bike shop, which has a lot of Tour de Yorkshire memorabilia up on the walls, which is lovely. A fairly limited menu, which again is a positive in my book as when out exploring one does not need too much choice. However the service was not the Yorkshire warmth I have come to expect, the quality of the ingredients was not superb and the service was slow. For a location that is always busy when I have passed through the expectation is for crowds to be anticipated, and as a minimum to staff according to the number of tables available.

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
