"I've used this coffee shop and their other outlets in Hartlepool and Billingham for years but have noticed a gradual decline. Called into the Stockton coffee shop today and was shocked to see the state of disrepair it is now in. Is it being run down for closure perhaps? Two large glass windows overlooking the River to the side have been boarded up for weeks and make the interior gloomy. Part of the cavernous restaurant has been closed off for a while and looks dark and dusty. However the main area where they are still serving food concerned me. The walls are stained, the roof manky with dirt tracks running down the walls. The food was edible but uninspiring though the milky coffee is still good. I didn't venture into the toilets having read the previous review! This place needs a thorough spruce up or a close up I'm afraid. Food and selection have diminished and I notice it only has a 3 Star food hygiene (out of 5) from the Council now. Having viewed it today, they were lucky to be awarded that! I remember when this place started out and was clean and had good standards with appetising food and snacks."

Visited for a late lunch. We all had fish and chips which were well cooked as were the chips. Mushy peas were cold. However for the price we paid it was ok.

Amazing breakfast and outstanding service.... SPOTLESSLY CLEAN and so welcomeing and friendly. The breakfast was piping hot and cooked fresh to order, a real mix of customers and they were quite busy but service was still on point ... The only downside is that I don't live near enough to pop in all the time, so will have to wait till I'm home next..

Overstaffed and all sat chatting in corner. Appart from a young girl constatly mopping the same bit of floor. Absolutlely no customer service. Food was disgusting. And then i had the unfortunate experience of having to take my two year old to the disgusting and filthy toilets. Windows in cafe were boarded up which madebthe place look even worse than it is if that is possible. Never ever again!

We went yesterday 4/11/16 at 11.20 and asked for 2 special breakfasts (served before11.30 I wrote down on a napkin what we wanted on them ,they came with wrong items on ...bacon was hardly cooked ..and to make matters worse they were dried up and cold...obviously we got the dregs....the coffee was also Luke warm probably due to the 2 women serving behind talking to each other constantly. I handed £20 over and she changed me for £10 ...so I won't be going back ..the 2 ladies sat next to us left their foods as it wasn't hot enough.....your breaking the law Ver carta

I remember going here when I was very young with my grandparents and today me and my brother thought it would be nice to revisit while in the town, the place was filthy, smelly and very dated. The only reason we stayed as by the time we got there my baby was screaming for a feed. We ordered 2 portions of chips which when they came pritty much immediately we're completely over done, rock hard and the potato inside almost non existent. I took pictures as I felt this place was so dirty it should be closed down! As for the staff they looked as fed up as the place itself.

In December we were shopping in Stockton, and met some friends, we were all a bit frazzled with the shopping and kids so wanted some food, there was 6 adult and 5 kids, it was 3:35 in the afternoon. We went down the stairs into the café, it was almost empty just 4 or 5 people in, we approached the counter and started to order some food, we were told the ovens and friars are turned off!! and they were not going to turn them back on. we were made to feel like we were asking for the impossible food in a café at 3:35 in the afternoon. No attempt was made to offer any kind of food or drink, when we went to leave we could not go the way we came in as that door was now locked!!, so we had to go out...

"Visited this weekend for a family celebration and had an unremarkable experience. Decor of establishment was rather nice. Admittedly, we were a large booking of 17 individuals and this can be challenging to manage and organise for such a small establishment. The mature gentleman was rather rude to our host whom asked for an additional chair for the party as we were one short despite finalising numbers as agreed earlier in the afternoon. This is no way an appropriate manner to treat guests and clearly set a bad example for his staff as well as the wrong tone for the evening ahead. Guests were not even properly seated before being hounded for their drinks order despite not being given a drinks menu. Upon asking about cocktails to the waitress whom was pleasant she was unable to give the full selection just the three she knew of the top of her head that were the standard run of the mill selection. To give full credit to her fo honest regarding the diaquiries before we ordered them in. The cocktails (passion fruit martini and cosmopolitan's) ordered were disappointing as they tasted watered down and lacked a bang. Don't understand why one of the passion fruit martinis was brought out in a drinks glass which was rather random. Drinks orders were taken on an ad hoc basis with the waiting staff not taking a full tables order walking away as people attempted to give their drinks order, unintentional maybe? We were rushed to give our starters/mains orders all of which came promptly and all guests received the correct order. The waiting staff shouted out food orders from the top of the table to identify who's order was who's. The pasta based dishes were pleasantly enjoyed yet the pizzas and parmesans proved to be somewhat vanilla. Not all guests had properly finished eating their meals before the gentlemen asked if he could remove plates before receiving an answer from the full table resulting in some guests to not finish their meals. We were not offered a deserts menu once they removed dishes from the table. We had second hand embarrassment for an additional family party whom were having a celebration meal at the restaurant. The party had started to get settled at the table putting out their balloons etc when the mature gent stormed over barking at them to move as he shoved table and chairs across the restaurant. This clearly made them feel uncomfortable as was noticed and commented by the service users of the restaurant. The waiting staff plonked the celebration cakes on the table one of which didn't even go to the correct individual. NO SPECIAL MEMORY OR MAGICAL MOMENT TO BE HAD FOR A 18TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. It would have been nice if they had asked before bringing it out as some of our party partially missed out on the occasion. The bill was given to the wrong individual instead of the host which allowed for everyone to see the bill when this was an private affair. To be perfectly honest we visited a few months earlier and had a disappointing experience but with better service. Linthorpe Road is bursting with alternative, superior, independent eateries that I would highly recommend instead."
