The Greyfriar - Carta

Absolutely brilliant roast, probably the best I have ever had at a pub. Fantastic service, lovely atmosphere. Cannot rave about this place enough. Will definitely be coming back and bringing more friends.

My God, what a quaint and beautiful little place in Alton. I was totally floored by the quality of its food and hospitality. Zach is an interesting young man and has a good sense of humour. Food is really good and a must visit

Avoid this restaurant. It seems to be temporarily closed. When we last visited, there were limited drink options and on New Year's Eve lunchtime, it was shut with no beer available. Fullers should update their website to prevent others from making a pointless journey. Please get organized! Ver carta

Just decided to pop in for lunch! Had totally forgotten that the Greyfriars had changed hands. Still an amazing pub to visit. Landlady very friendly and checking that all is well with your visit. Food was amazing and a great price for such wonderful food. The pudding (Toppled flowerpot) was very creative and quite a surprise. Very yummy! Will definitely go back.

We had high expectations of this pub, having been there a couple of times before its change of ownership and relaunch, and having received multiple emails since the relaunch trying to pitch it as more up-market. Sadly these expectations were unfulfilled. Only one person serving the whole pub; a very long wait for food (which was fine, but not exceptional). The pub was cold, as well. We won’t rush back.

Sadly a disappointing experience. They were clearly experiencing problems with lots off on the menu, no draft beers and limited soft drinks. The curry portions were meagre to say the least and the wait for the food to arrive overly long. It was cold and draughty. The service was friendly but facing an up hill battle to compensate for the short comings. We would t return and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else. Visit the cafe next door instead. Ver carta

Thank God…the Sunday roast is back and finally The Greyfriar appears to be a thriving village pub once again. I simply could not fault the Sunday lunch we have just had, it was delicious and generous. The beef was so tasty, the vegetables were delicious and the roast potatoes were the best pub roasties I have ever had and all served by the ever entertaining and delightful Zac! Good luck to the new owners. We are lucky to live here, so to have the pub back is fantastic!

We ordered four sandwiches, bread, and olives at this restaurant. However, after waiting for 40 minutes, we inquired about our food and were told it was still ten minutes away. Frustrated, we asked if we could take our order to go. In the end, we only received three poorly made toasted sandwiches, as the fourth sandwich, bread, and olives never arrived. We recommend avoiding this place as it was severely short-staffed, a third of the menu was unavailable, and we were told that serving bread and olives was too time-consuming. Instead, we suggest trying a toasted sandwich at Cassandra's next door.

The service at this restaurant was extremely slow as there was only one staff member working the bar and restaurant. We had to wait for menus as they were being used by someone else, and they were only printed on paper. We waited an hour and twenty minutes for our food to arrive, which was disappointing. The Katsu chicken burgers had only a small amount of chicken in them, equivalent to one chicken tender. My colleague's chicken was overcooked and inedible at one end. I ordered the Gladiator burger, but found the texture odd, as if it had been cooked from frozen. The server was pleasant and apologetic for the wait, and when we complained about the food, she promptly waived the entire bill. I... Ver carta
