"We booked a table for four for my husband's birthday 10 days in advance. We arrived slightly early, to be told the chef had not yet arrived. The table was booked for 1.30pm and there was still no sign of the chef at 1.45pm. Considering we were expecting a Sunday lunch, we were aware we would probably have a long wait for a fresh roast to be cooked. We kept asking what was the situation, and were told she was coming on the bus (Sunday, Bank Holiday on 1st January? . We were then told they could not contact her on her mobile. We were not even offered a complimentary drink whilst waiting, so we told them we would have the round of drinks we had whilst waiting for free. They were not bothered in the least when we told them we were leaving just after 2.00pm, just as the chef arrived in a car! Cannot therefore rate the food or value. Very disappointed."

A nice rural pub serving great food with a cosy environment and friendly bar staff.

The staff are attentive and the food was served hot, albeit a little OTT with the gravey.

Made welcome, enjoyed the food, and real ale. Chef took interest in our choices. First visit for quite some time, will certainly visit again.

The service was surprisingly slow, and we were the only customers in the restaurant. It's a shame because the pub food seemed promising. However, I wouldn't want to pay the full price for it. I was glad we had a 2-for-1 deal.

Food was tasty and wholesome, and staff were friendly enough. Would definitely recommend it as an alternative to the busy places at Cheshire Oaks as its only a few minutes away. Only slight issue was my pudding was frozen in the middle still have to say it was incredibly yummy still though!

I arrived for a 1 o’clock lunch, only to be told by an indifferent waitress that we would have to wait 30 minutes due to a Christmas party. The restaurant is in need of refurbishment, and to be honest, we were not sad to leave and spend our money elsewhere. I own a property in the village, and the last time I visited, about two years ago, the pub was welcoming and the food was good. However, I don't plan on returning anytime soon!

Lovely food couldn't fault it and very pleasant staff, however they didn't have a clue what they were doing. Left standing waiting for someone to show us to our table, when we asked we were told to just find a table but all were still full of old dishes and although we had booked no table was large enough for five people. Eventually showed us to a table in the bar area which was fine but we were the only table in there. I would go again for the food but in the hope the staff (as I said very pleasant) but have had some training.

we arrived at the booked evening time, but the staff had no knowledge of our booking. no tables were prepared. the personal was embarrassing and didn't know how to apologize that our booking didn't get over them. the main restaurant had been emptied by tables in willingness for a party. we were finally plunged into a small room that served as an overflow for the great number of very loud parties that arrived shortly after sitting. a quiet talk was impossible and we had to get used to getting ourselves over the excessive screaming of the many people who stand around our table and crowded the room. no good experience.

"I booked a table for 2 really last minute on a busy December night, piccolio’s manger cosimo took the booking, he was so friendly and helpful that we really needed after a hard work in the cold winter weather! we went in and the restaurants that were breathtaking have woken us! the decor is stylish and above all it was so warm and cozy what we needed, we were greeted with smiles all around by every worker and was immediately taken on our table, without waiting time what ever! we were so swollen! Shortly after we sat, we tamara welcomed them beautiful, well presented and extremely polite. we thought up the menu, while tamara served us the most delicious Rosè Prosecco and took our orders. it was a hard choice, as we wanted to order one of all, the menu choices sound exquisite! so much choice and catering for all food requirements. my own and my friend decided to go for the spaghetti frutti di mare, which was absolutely inconceivable! muddle, mush and calamari topped with a huge garlic king prawn! it didn't take long until there were two empty teller and full bell! we stayed and talked together about the life and there was no hurry to move us from table to tamara has checked us we were so glad to have chosen piccolino chester for our girly dinner date and just wanted to say a massive thank you to cosimo, tamara and the piccolino team. I can't wait to come back to another fantastic evening."
