"I had lunch with my family here while we were in the area. Firstly, I wasn't asked for id when ordering alcohol at the bar (I'm nineteen), which was the lady's own prerogative- and not at all a problem for me- however, I thought it...was interesting since I work in a restaurant myself and by law, would have asked for age identification. The whole time we were served by a lady, who I believe owned the place, and in fact, didn't see any other staff during our visit. She was nice and accommodating. Food portion sizes were big! My mum's jacket potato had almost too many prawns. I wish however that I had not ordered the pizza. It was clear from just the look that it was shop-bought and had just been heated up, which I thought was poor considering the price. Because of this, the base was very cardboard-like and not very enjoyable. I am not a fan of pubs that serve cheap, shop-bought, un-homeade meals at restaurant prices."

"our first visit was fantastic, eating was delicious, and good service. there were so tasty duck and sweet dishes. tiramisu was delicious. big red wine too. large open restaurant, spacious seating, beautiful deco. toilets clean. the staff on the quiet side, not very friendly or welcoming. our second visit was actually just the next day. we had swept so much over the place where my son wanted to try. but unfortunately we were very disappointed. the lasagna was bland and cold in the middle (I have informed the waitress) and the rest of the food was not on the previous night standard. the roasted seafoods were more like a tapas dish, my sea bass was tasteless and underwhelming. maybe it was because of the weekend of st. valentine?. hopefully it was just a bad day for the staff. my five star rating was only for our first night. we loved it."

"We visited today after finding out our favourite cafe in town has permanently closed. So were looking for the next best thing. Sadly Gartons wasn't it. We were pleased that it was dog friendly and took a seat by the window. It was a little snug in there but ok. We ordered our coffees which were fine and then when the coffee came ordered food. The menu had a good choice of things on it. It wasn't particularly busy but we waited 45mins for 3 orders of waffles. I was expecting some thing pretty delicious having taken that long but was very disappointed. The waffles were more like churos. They were dry and very sweet and almost like they had been deep fried. 2 of us had bacon and maple and 1 poached egg and spinach. The poached egg and spinach just really didn't go well with the sweet waffles. The bacon and maple were extra sweet and just dry. They came with a small salad garnish. For nearly £8 per portion I felt that was very steep for the quality and portion of the dish. The cafe was clean. Staff polite. And situated in a lovely place. We will probably only have coffee and cake next time if we visit."

"We didn't plan on dining at The Halfway Bridge Restaurant, but we stumbled upon it while driving to Uppark House National Trust. Despite the crowded carpark, we were able to get a table outside without a reservation. We started with drinks garnished with freshly squeezed fruit juice. For lunch, we ordered a BBQ beef burger and a Chicken Caesar open sandwich with extra handout chips. The food arrived promptly and looked amazing. The burger was delicious, made with flavorful beef, strong cheese, and maple bacon on a sesame seed brioche bun. The handout chips were crispy and well-seasoned. The chicken Caesar sandwich was also tasty, with moist chicken on corn bread. The side salad was dressed with a lovely sweet dressing and herbs. We rarely have dessert for lunch but couldn't resist trying the chocolate mousse and strawberries and cream. Both were exceptional, with unique and delicious accompaniments. Overall, the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We are already planning our next visit, hopefully staying at the hotel next time."

"very disappointing after we have been local in this pub for years, the new owners have taken an apology for the younger generation of the pub, we have always spent huge amounts of money in this pub over the years and suddenly we are welcomed...with a frosty reception, said we are not allowed to use the outside heating, followed in the toilets and said we are not welcome here or the faggot. After we visited a menu at 2.30 in the afternoon (kitchen closes 3), we were told that they did not eat, although tables around us eat and receive food. we are more than happy to take our good morals elsewhere and to support other local businesses in the region, as we are always greeted with smiles and open poor. I recommend people to avoid this disappointment of an establishment at all costs and their money in the hands of happy faces on places such as bricks or olive and wine grapes. the younger generation is the one who supported this pub during its hardest times and during the lockdown, we might eat here twice a week. the wine leaf has been my partner before place for 18 years, now it is 31. Unfortunately, our friends have made similar experiences in recent months, and it is a shame that they try to make such a big change of habit in an extremely small town. word goes quickly to this place and I am worried that they all have their priorities wrong. it is a real shame that they will turn away willing, loyal customers. I hope that this review is understood as an honest feedback from loyal customers who want to revive this site."
