"Although we'd not booked and there was a large group expected, the manager was extremely accommodating and gave us a perfect spot by an open fire. We're very grateful. The food was delicious! My partner had an excellent chicken and leek pie, with new potatoes and mixed vegetables. I had a fabulous pan fried goat cheese salad. The establishment is a fine one managed by someone with really high standards, and with friendly and efficient staff. Thanks, all!"

"not locally to witney we were not aware of the hand and the shears until it was recommended to us for lunch when we were in the opposite on a cold winter day. quiet there, half this afternoon, and they placed us through the log burner who kept us very tortured. I had chicken and leckagepis and my wife had a sausage sandwich so that she would also have a place for apron pain and pumpkin. everything was really skurril, including the chips that were about the best we ever had. the torte was homemade and very fleshy, the brot of the sandwiches of my wife was also homemade and surprisingly very light. may they be back in the opposite, so soon they want to fall into dinner, we discover lobster on the menu can not wait. ps the sausage sandwich was actually quite filling out so I had to help my wife with the apple crumb, also quite fab."

"Overall a lovely night and great food. The Good: Some of the best fish and chips I 've ever had outside of Yorkshire; wonderful ice cream selection; cosy environment; welcoming staff; reasonably priced food; good wine list The Not So Good: There only seemed to be one drinks menu in the entire restaurant as it had to be passed around the tables (a little frustrating and time consuming ; we arrived at 8pm to find most of the menu had 'sold out '; only a set menu is available on Sundays and there is no warning of this on either the website or the booking confirmation; finally, we asked staff to book a taxi for us back to our hotel and whilst they obliged we were booked into a private chauffeur firm with a min. spend of £40 (ridiculous for a 10 minute drive! with no warning or choice on our part"

"The bedrooms were comfortable and had everything we needed,bathroom the same but the noise from the early morning traffic and the empty bottles being dumped in the skip outside meant there was little chance of peaceful sleep after 6am. The communal area, especially near Reception didnt smell very fresh, reminded me of a nursing home . Not nice. Few scented candles maybe ? Some of the staff serving breakfast and on Reception were diffident and inattentive and breakfast was disappointing given the room rate. Even an hour before service finished the cereal was in low supply, I had to raid other tables for marmalade and couldn't find any.Had to ask twice for a place to be set for me and for milk for my tea while the waitress was eating herself. Had scrambled egg and smoked salmon on the second day which was colourless and rubbery and dry. In the bar on the first night we ordered a couple of starters to have with a drink as we weren't hungry enough for a full meal. Good thing as the portions were comically small. Wouldn't be my first choice at all even given the popularity of the town and the time of year, I'd rather stay out of town than spend this sort of money for such an average experience."
