"we are just after an amazing evening in the swan for our 15th Wedding Jubilee,Staff, where so helpful and polite and had a lot of knowledge on the building. our room was stunning and a beautiful note was the inviting cake with happy annual day on. a free bottle of adnams gin and the wellness products where so nice to use. we had a wonderful view of the place with a window seat that was so beautiful to sit and watch the people. I booked a table in the quiet room and my quality, we were not disappointed, it was nicely presented staff, where very attentive and it dared fantastic. and another finishing touch was a teller with happy jubilee on it and a selection of mini cakes that was just so beautiful. we had an amazing night sleep, but to be fair, we have 2 year old twins and an 8 year old, so that always a full night sleep is always very welcome. breakfast was amazing with a selection of chalky juices even champagner, if u wanted a pick up from me from the night above all we had an amazing stay and sohope we can talk the big parents to have the kids again, so we can stay again. Many thanks that we had a nice time. the wilsons xxx"

Lovely decor in the sitting rooms and restaurant. Very good food (delicious mackerel dish) especially the desserts (wowed by the liquorice root panna cotta with stout ice cream). Very friendly efficient service.

We celebrated a friends 50th with afternoon tea at The Swan. We all agreed it was the best afternoon tea we have ever experienced. All the food was light and delicious and the service was fantastic. Will definitely be back.

The chips were soggy and not suitable for vegetarians. After a few bites, we noticed a strange taste and discovered on the website that they were fried in beef fat. This information was not provided in the shop nor mentioned by the cashier before we ordered.

This restaurant is excellent in every way. The venue is quaint, the staff is lovely, and the fish and chips are absolutely delicious. In fact, they are some of the best I have ever had. The fish batter is crispy and the chips are cooked twice, ensuring they are never soggy. I highly recommend this place.

this is a wonderful hotel, old-fashioned in the best sense. that was our 3rd stay, we had the same room with a lighthouse distant sea view. beautiful newly renovated bathroom the interior in the room (which is huge) was a little dated but high quality a huge comfortable bed. the dinner was excellent from beginning to end, including homemade petit four with the coffee. The.staff are welcoming polite, without stuffing and the breakfast waiting are the best. I can't wait for our next visit.

I recently visited this restaurant in September while on vacation in Suffolk. It might be easy to overlook this hidden gem as it is located down a small side alley. During my visit, they had a very efficient Covid takeout system in place, allowing only one customer inside at a time. Despite the busy atmosphere, the wait was short and well worth it. The portions were generous and the food was freshly cooked, piping hot, and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed our meal by taking a short walk to the seafront and finding a bench. Overall, it was impossible to find any faults with this restaurant.

We were very lucky in finding a room at The Swan at the very last minute. Adnam's have just spent a reported £6 million on refurbishing this wonderful building the hotel apparently only re-opened two weeks ago. From the moment we arrived to be greeted by the charming helpful receptionist Rhia, we had a truly fabulous stay. Our room was extremely comfortable, the decor is a marvellous combination of modern traditional the food was delicious. One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in for a long time in an excellent location right in the middle of Southwold. Cannot recommend The Swan too highly very much hope to return for a longer stay.

We stayed at the Swan yesterday. To our amazement we were upgraded from an Excellent room to an Outstanding room. Following the recent refurbishment the hotel is truly stunning. The room was remarkable and came with beautiful complimentary toiletries. bottle of gin. Nespresso machine etc. The bed was incredibly comfortable with high quality linen and bedding. We ate in the restaurant and had a drink in the Tap room, finally brandy in the beautiful lounge. The tasting menu was excellent as was the breakfast the following morning. All of the staff we encountered were helpful, knowledgeable and very well trained. We will return very soon!

"Having been a regular customer for over a decade to The Bell Inn, I was left very underwhelmed this time. Room was lovely and clean as usual, Tom on reception was fab. We chose to dine in the restaurant as normal and booked for 730pm so we had a nice long evening to enjoy eating and drinking. The menu is now very limited compared to previous years, we chose to have 4 starters to share and some rose wine with bread to start. Slight delay on bread, which came crammed on a small plate, which we had to ask for side plates after waiting for the waitress to reappear…the oil and balsamic was awful, there was so much oil chucked in the ramekin we had to ask for another, to pour some off to try and get to the vinegar. Food came out, and was put on table, again had to ask for side plates as we were sharing and still had bread on the other ones. No drinks check. Had to wait at bar to order more. Food was mediocre at best, we both have very good appetites especially after the harbour walk and some wine! but both ended up just picking at it. Ended up going to room with our wine very early, the only other table in the restaurant that was occupied had some sort of problem ordering due to “fryers being turned off” and got sandwiches and chips instead! Slept well as usual. Went for a quick dog walk before breakfast and narrowly avoided being hit by the chef arriving at 845am in the car park. Arrived on time for breakfast at 9am, lovely, lovely waitress served us, ordered full English and pot of tea, partner the same with coffee. Took a sip of the tea and it was barely lukewarm… spoke to waitress who was very apologetic and bought me a fresh one, turns out the rest of the room all had the same problem with tea and coffee as the urn hadn’t been turned on in time see chef comment food came out and was delicious and hot, and top quality as usual, we cleared our plates! Room was spotlessly clean, and the Tyneham hand wash/cream is so good! Overall disappointing as I know how good this place can be, and the first time I’ve ever encountered any problems. As stated before it was not busy in the slightest compared to previous years, so no excuse really. I will return as The Bell holds dear memories for me, I hope next year it will have ironed out these problems and be back to full glory!"
