"Regarding the comments about "toys out the pram" and "keyboard warrior," as we were leaving, I calmly explained that we were leaving because we didn’t want to be a burden, which is how we felt during the entire experience. I then wrote a review reflecting that experience, which was unfortunately mishandled, just like the treatment of two potential customers that evening. It was disappointing. I often leave positive reviews for good experiences, and I’ve had plenty of enjoyable visits in lovely Wivenhoe. I wish you all the best and hope this serves as a learning opportunity. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try any food. We walked in at 5:45 PM asking for drinks (cocktails). The place was empty, and we were welcomed, with a girl even trying to find us menus, although only sticky ones were available. We didn’t mind and seated ourselves. However, then we were abruptly told by a different staff member that the restaurant didn’t open until 6 PM, and it felt like we were an inconvenience because they were still setting up. So, we decided to leave. It would have been perfectly fine if we had been informed of this from the start, but instead, it was a confusing and unnecessarily unpleasant experience. The food is excellent, albeit on the pricey side. The service was decent. I dined in for dinner, and the cost per person was around £20–30. I would rate the food a solid 4, the service a 3, and the atmosphere also a 3. I recommend trying the traditional Patatas Bravas.

I booked The Orange tree for my 60th and was really disappointed. One meal didn't arrive and 2 seafood plates arrived with no sea food. Portion sizes were also really small I've been to loads of different tapas restaurants and the portions were much better) The waiting staff were lovely but the Chef had an appalling attitude and wouldn't rectify the issue with our seafood plates or the missing dish. So 3 of our party didn't eat. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1

We left within just five minutes of arriving. The restroom was located down a dark alley; you had to exit the building and walk up the street, which didn't feel very safe, especially since I’m pregnant. The menu was torn and looked like it had been dragged through dirt—unless it was meant to have an old-fashioned appearance. Furthermore, the menu did not match what was advertised online, possibly because they haven't updated it. While we can’t comment on the food, we did overhear someone saying they wouldn’t return, which was off-putting. We visited a few years ago and remembered the menu and food being amazing, so it was quite disappointing this time, especially since we had been looking fo...

"as you all should know, this girl loves to eat her! So I wanted to try something else I didn't have before. so yak yeti was your turn. I ordered online, although the restaurant is like a 5-minute drive away, (feeling fazy did not want to go to dress up, etc.) so I decided for my starter networks. the food was delivered within 30 minutes, it was still hot, bonus! container that they used were very good, so no spillage at all. popadoms were crispy, went nice with the dips. regarding eating, not only did it look delicious, it also melts delicious. then I tried and o to the m to the g, it was spicy, too spicy in the did that I continued to eat. my mouth has broken the food, as I said, looked delicious, so I tried another gift from the dish shot, still too spicy. Now I have no taste at all, but it is a Nepalese restaurant that they use spiced by many species, I guess. but whatever they use is too spicy for me, if I tried to continue, I would later be in jeopardy, because my just don't do spicy food. as a girl who loves to eat, I will not destroy this restaurant just because I cannot tolerate spicy foods. in future I will notify the restaurant to add not seasoned over very mild to future orders. this restaurant has a very good high review online so I encourage them to try it for themselves, just remember that eating can be sharp. otherwise they hope a wonderful day! love as always justine xxx styleoutyourhome"

"We decided to book a room at Wivenhoe house hotel for my 26th birthday. We were greeted by Gabrielle, who said happy birthday and got us checked in. I added to the booking that it was my birthday and was pleasantly surprised to see the hotel room decorated when we arrived. What was even more surprising, is that my boyfriend decided to propose there and then in the beautiful hotel room. From then on, we were treated with a full red carpet. We asked for some Prosecco to be brought up, and were greeted by Vusi, the Front of House Manager and Lionel, who I assume was in charge of the restaurant. They arrived with chocolate covered strawberries and a warm congratulations which was wonderful. Lionel also assured us not to rush in order to make it for our dinner reservations but to take our time, which was lovely. When we went down for dinner, we were greeted by Vincenzo and Lionel who helped us open our Prosecco (we failed to get the cork out lol). We were swept away to our table which was decorated with small crystals and our meals were amazing, especially since our Prosecco was topped up all evening and displayed beautifully in an ice bucket. We received these beautifully displayed plates that said Happy Birthday and Congratulations. It seemed that all the staff were aware of our celebration and we received many congratulations. We went back to our room and ordered some hot chocolates which were lovely. The next morning, we decided to have breakfast which was a beautiful spread, after breakfast, we decided to head back to our room to relax and we decided to finish our day off with afternoon tea. Afternoon tea was wonderful, We were greeted once again by Vincenzo, who assured us that we could come in before our reservation time, The table was decorated once again and I received a beautifully decorated plate saying happy birthday with chocolate covered strawberries. We said goodbye to all the staff and checked out, It was lovely to say goodbye to Gabrielle again who checked us in. Our stay was magical and wonderful. Every member of staff that we met made us feel special and at home. The red carpet was pulled out and we received such special treatment. We have decided to return for my Fiance's birthday at the end of the month because it was that wonderful. Thank you once again (Apologies if I have spelt names wrong)"

"Me and my partner have often been visiting this pub in lovely Wivenhoe village over the last 3 years. Unfortunately every year since and every time the food gets worse incrementally and I don't know of this is consistent with the change of kitchen staff. The local ale and beer selection has been lovely and the beer fest they often host in the back garden also has a great beer selection. However this last visit was really bad. We booked a table for Sunday roast and we were sat in direct view of serving staff and got ignored for the first half an hour despite it being early on Sunday and barely having any tables to serve. It wasn't until my partner had to make staff aware that we were sat there. No proper greeting like older times and no cutlery or general hospitality provided. We kind of brushed it off as we taught its younger, teenage servers who looked inexperienced. The wait for the food was quite long and the roast was extremely mediocre despite the recent price hike which is not just (cost of living) related and shouldn't be in my opinion as competing country pubs have similar prices and majorly better food quality and portion size. Small portion of meat, beef was sinuie and very tough. It was difficult to cut and chew despite it being on the rare side which should make it more tender. The vegetables used to come separate, unlike this time around where we were served poorly overcooked small portion of fine julienne carrots and horribly overcooked frozen broccoli florets. Gravy was really scarce and barely dowsing the plate, Yorkshire pudding was flat and tasted like it was frozen and microwaved, also cold. The wine offer we chose was a bottle of red not opened infront of us. The server seemed to be in a rush and didn't even wait until our order was finished and just rudely turned around. The specials board dessert for the day (apple crumble) had ran out which is a bad impression of kitchen management as it was really early on in the day in terms of Sunday roast food service which lasts till 5pm and this was a 2pm booking. We ordered the other special dessert for the day (creme brulee) which was runny, watery and sugar loaded which was a bit sickly. The shortbread it came with was fresh out of the oven but the dough inside was undercooked/raw and again way too sugary. The tables around us seemed to be finished with most of their plates still full which was also not a good impression. We got asked if the food was okay multiple times by the same server which was also excessive and annoying. I wouldn't come back here again personally as there is much better competition around this area and even affordable good food/michellin star pubs. I would advise people to avoid the mediocre food, rather maybe have a drink if the bar staff could actually come around ti ever taking your order. Shame really, they should realise that a lot of people can cook a roast better at home it's not something you can avoid criticism about as it's a Great British Classic."
