"We 've been here countless times and haven 't had anything but great things to say about the food. Sadly that changed tonight. It started with them getting our booking wrong and giving our table away but they sorted that. Next it took forever to take our order then the food didn 't come out for over 1 hour, then when it finally did, after having to ask about it, they obviously rushed as they forgot to cook the beef burger which they served to the pregnant person (raw beef can cause miscarriages) when we sent it back we were told the chef would come out they never did and that we should have told them she was pregnant. It was only when we went to the bar ask to see them, that they came out. And that 's when things went down hill the chef was convinced that it wasn 't raw, even though the bun was red with blood. Its clear that she clearly doesn 't know what cooked beef looks like but also need to retake her food hygiene. Minced beef (beef burgers) should never be cooked rare or medium rare as stated by the food standards agency. Burgers cooked rare and medium rare carry a higher risk of food poisoning. Unlike a steak, a burger needs to be cooked through to reduce that risk The fact that this chef completely denied all fault is just ignorance and disappointing. As we tried to have a respectful conversation she began pointing and shouting, leaving us in shock and again disappointed."

"We decided to go to the Nelson Butt for Sunday Lunch for my birthday. There were 11 of us plus a high chair and we had their function room to ourselves, which was great as the toddler in the party could roam free and not get out of the room. The waitresses were excellent and not confused by our random way of ordering. We had starters and everyone chose either brie or pate, both came with salad and chutney and toast with the pate. For the main everyone had either pork or beef, both were very nice. also on the plate were roast potatoes and a yorkie. There was a side platter with fresh carrots, cauli, broccoli and mash. Then we had puddings and coffee. We all enjoyed the food and would definitely return for Sunday lunch again. Thank you for a lovely birthday meal."

"We had booked into the Red Lion and all seven of use were really pleased with our selection,First of all the owner really made us welcome and gave us a great rundown on the history of the pub,The hotel is spotless and each room is an individua experience and not a corporate mass produced layout.We had 4 of the rooms and they were all perfect and were VERY well equipped, we wanted for nothing,The food was exceptional with a wide selection to choose from. [We had the breakfasts and the evening meals and we were pleased that we did so,The garden area was a real bonus,All of the staff were so friendly but we must say a special word about Crumble the hotel dog who is the loveliest animal we have ever met, a real joy.All seven of us recommend this hotel and were extremally grateful to everyone for a very pleasant weekend.We will be visiting the Red Lion again..... Perfection."

"This place was recommended by our hosts which we chanced for our anniversary meal. To be safe we booked a table for the Saturday night but that was not required... there's a discouraging sign aka restaurant near empty on a Saturday. Walking into the pub we were asked if we wanted to sit near the bar or restaurant, we opted for the restaurant for that more romantic feeling.. Have to say please can someone gift this place a leveller as all the pictures were skewiff aha We were the only couple, adjacent to us was a some young chav girls using it as a place to congregate with their mates. The drinks were basic but reasonably priced so I risked a French Martini which tasted like Oasis. The starters offered a good variety I ended up choosing the scallops with pea puree and parmaham for £8.50 and my partner a mozzarella salad. My x3 scallops were undercooked and for the price offensive. My partners salad was plentiful with fresh tomato and low grade mozzarella but the olives on top had been living in a jar since the dawn of time. Very mouldy in appearance and taste. This was fed back, sure the waitress then informed the chef who eyeballed us but nothing further occurred to appease we were just given a weak apology. For mains I chose the seabass with prawns and chorizo my bf selected the prawn asparagus risotto. My main I could not fault, the flavours were all there and every cooked nicely. The added vegetables were a let down.. they had made some tasty potatoes but then accompanied this with frozen veg laced with butter? The risotto was good apparently but once again undercooked seafood. Overall felt the waitresses did not want to be there and food very hit or miss. Any chance of any ambiance was dashed from loud young girls .Would I return, no."

"The staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was delightful. I ordered takeout and found the prices to be reasonable, ranging from £10 to £20 per person. I would rate the food a solid 5 out of 5, as well as the service and atmosphere. I highly recommend trying the garlic bread and cheeseburger!"
