"Came here on New Years day with friends and family. Ordered the crispy bacon and cheese skins salad. The food came out promptly, however was very underwhelming. The topping had just been plonked on the top of the potato and warmed through. No crispy skins and no salad!? In the end we had to ask two separate members of staff where the salad was, each giving puzzled looks.. Eventually a bowl of very unappetizing past it's best salad was presented to us. (I'm assuming to be shared between two by this time the potatoes were cold as it had taken so long. With the member of staff saying that usually it doesn't come with salad so they were unaware. (Some form of apology!? With uneaten plates. (Luckily the other half of the party ordered chips,so we were able to eat some of theirs! We went up to pay and told the staff how disappointed we were with X2 of the meals. Nothing was done to rectify the issue, nor an apology given. We were told they would pass the feedback onto the kitchen. We understand it's New Year Day and staffing was probably limited, however the food really was poor at best. Please run a limited menu next time and better still train your staff and chef on the menu. If you can't deliver, stick to just chips and coffee! Luckily the coffee was decent. We'll give this place a miss in future."

Issued with a £100 fine for overstaying a paid parking session in the Rockpool's car park by a few minutes. Our toddler was having a meltdown. Car park was 3/4 empty at the time. Appeal rejected. Disgraceful. Avoid these profiteers! Ver carta

I paid for parking but forgot to register my vehicle, so I received a ticket. I appealed the ticket, but my parking fee ended up going to a local business. It seems like a scam. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't advise others to park at Rockpool if they value their money. Jose.

We went for Sunday lunch. Had been regular customers at Lulas north quay and so disappointed when it closed. Didn’t have high hopes for Lula kitchen at rock pool but it was AMAZING. We had Sunday roasts which were lush and drinks desserts. Music by @wavemachine was lovely too. Highly recommend and will be back.

Lula at The Rockpool, over priced, poor quality, forgot to bring our mains but I wish they hadn’t bothered. Was really looking forward to ribs and seafood, what a disappointment!! I could genuinely do 10 times better myself at home, and I’m an average cook. Really annoys me when you pay good money and get **** food. Ver carta

Went for breakfast, main thing was the restaraunt stank of Urine! Thought we were maybe near the toilets but we weren’t. Was really off putting and almost walked out Menu was limited, had a full English which was very poor, 1 sausage, 2 small slithers...of bacon, yet 2 eggs and 3 pieces of toast? Won’t be going back when there is so many of nice places in Cornwall to eat!

Thought we'd have Sunday lunch, booked and went. The following has to be viewed with the knowledge that we went after 2pm. So... my beef roast (fancy oriental marinade etc) was appalling, actually dried up, I have never sent food back before, and the replacement wasn't much better, but too hungry to ask for another dish. If what you have to serve isn't up to scratch don't serve it, tell me it's finished. My wife's wasn't much better. We went for lunch the following day with friends, one who has played at their other restaurants, and it wasn't much better. My friend's chowder, he's allergic to gluten, was sloppy and served with a bit of sliced bread. All round all of our food was unsatisfacto...

"Even in chilly and blustery late March, St Ives is a popular place. While the sun was out, the shops and bars on the waterfront were seemingly never short of customers, and the chocolate-box narrow streets and whitewashed cottages behind teemed with day trippers and young families. Heaven knows how difficult it is to get a reservation in the Porthminster Beach Café in season, for even now, from the moment they open for lunch until late into the evening, it seems every table is taken. And beautiful though lunch in the daytime would have been, above the stunning aquamarine waters of Porthminster Bay, we had somehow, by sheer fluke, snagged a table for early evening on Tuesday. From the outside, the building is a pretty beach house, one of quite a few along the same stretch of coastline. Inside, however, the décor is standard contemporary restaurant, spot-lighting, welcoming beach wood floors and comfortable furniture. The welcome from the staff, too, was superb they'd even laid on a birthday card having learned from the hotel that it was one of our party's birthday. An easy thing to do, perhaps, but these little details make all the difference. We began with a local oyster each (they were from Fowey, just up the coast), dressed simply with lemon juice. Lovely in fact they disappeared so quickly I didn't manage to get a photo taken in time, but here they are after we'd finished with them:My starter was some local St Ives beef, served with a kind of coleslaw and a parmesan crisp. The beef was excellent a great, deep flavour and seasoned very well, a perfect example of intelligent local sourcing. And I always think anything crispy goes well with beef I'm a sucker for strong texture contrasts. The only slightly off note were a row of weird dried olives which tasted of cardboard and didn't really add much. But other than that, a great start.Things continued to improve with the arrival of bream fillets (my second portion in two days) and razor clams. Quite aside from being a stunningly presented plate of food, each element of the dish was cooked to a very high standard. The bream was delicately filleted and cooked expertly, the vanilla froth matched the fish very well, and a row of shredded razor clam meat added another texture layer. Top stuff. Similar noises were made around the table, the organic salmon and langoustines being another highlight. For dessert, I was served a pretty selection of five different sweets a crème brûlée, a dab of homemade fig jam, a raspberry shortbread, a superb fruit sorbet and a playful shot of fruit jelly topped with popping candy. A riot of texture contrasts and displaying a range of cooking techniques, only the questionable seasonality of raspberries detracted from what was otherwise an entertaining and delicious way to end the meal. So, as it turned out, Porthminster Beach Café is wildly popular for a very good reason it's a damn fine restaurant. Not only does it have the advantage of probably the best location for any restaurant I've visited outside the Costa Brava, but the food is intelligent and superbly executed and considering they could probably charge double these prices and still have them queuing in the street, very reasonably priced indeed. Residents of St. Ives will no doubt be completely unsurprised by this glowing review, but for anyone who has yet to visit this devastatingly pretty part of the world, Porthminster Beach Café should be top of your list."
