"I 'm sorry to say, the service was very poor. As far as I could see there were only 2 other tables occupied, but it took 1.5 hours for our food to arrive. After passing a little comment to the waiter, I asked how long desert would take and was told don 't worry, I 'll make sure it comes straight out to you . My friends desert arrived fairly promptly, but nothing for me. The waiter told the chef and she went to get it. 20 minutes later it arrived. Bread and butter pudding, but it was smothered with the type of red sauce you get on an icecream, Disgusting. I am sorry, but I will not be frequenting The Royal Oak again."

Lovely place not far from the cathedral and town center. Selling real ales and local brewers beer. Only downfall is no parking

Been a while in reviewing this central pub, friendly pub, not a lot of draft beers, barmaid draws cocks in your guinness though

This place is great, but the chicken nuggets for kids are not the best. We had a great experience and would come again, but we would probably order something different next time.

Went for a lovely meal here had the pie was delicious and a very generous portion. Olivia is very welcoming, polite and friendly. Beautiful view of the river, be stunning on a sunny day. Ver carta

I visited a few of the acts at Focus Wales. The bar area is dominated by a large antelope head near the performance area. The beers are great, and the atmosphere and sound are also great.

Great place for real ale, known locally as the Polish Embassy read the plaque inside. Staff are excellent, ale is well kept and served perfectly. In winter the fire is very welcoming. Always made to feel welcomed by the staff.

Why is it all Joules pubs are so good? This one certainly does not disappoint apart from the understandable 4:00 pm opening on a Thursday afternoon. Only the two cask ales on today but the Blonde ale is such an easy drinker. Well worth a visit if only to read up about the history of the place a truly impressive building. Ver carta

Visited over the August bank holiday weekend (Sunday afternoon) and although it was quiet in town there were a few in here making plenty of noise so we ventured in. We got served quickly and the lady serving was very polite and friendly. We ordered a pint and a glass of wine and were quite shocked when it came to almost £12. More so because it was the third pub we had been in and everywhere else on the high street was between £7-9 for a similar order. We didn't stop for another drink.

Lovely food, Sunday lunch now £12.50 which used to be £10. Have visited many times, although lately the meat has been a little tough. Main problem is the service charge which is added onto the bill. I don’t mind leaving a tip, but don’t like it just to be added to the bill. Have heard a lot of diners complaining about this, which is a shame as they won’t return. Lovely setting and really want this place to stay open. So a note to the management get rid of the charge and the diners will return.
