"This pub has a beautiful summer garden and we enjoyed watching the variety of wild birds that flittered around. Whoever maintains the garden does so with pride and with knowledge of how to create a wonderful space. The same pride and knowledge is not represented...in our experience of the food. It took over an hour to receive a burnt fish chips and a fish burger that was a tiny bit of cheap fish cake. The fish cake tasted unsurprisingly dreadful, more potato than fish, a frozen bought in effort and was returned uneaten. After the hour's wait the kitchen was closed so no alternative was offered. The fish chips were supposed to come with creamed peas, but instead came with plain frozen peas. The claimed home made tartare sauce was out of a jar. The batter was dark brown and bitter and clearly over cooked to the point of being burnt. The chips were equally over cooked and dry. In our view the chips were frozen not fresh. The chef needs to take a leaf out of the gardeners book and take some pride at what leaves their workplace, as we left hungry and bitterly disappointed. That food should never have left the kitchen in the state it was and is hugely disrespectful to the customer. The service was friendly but slow. We weren't offered an apology nor were we asked how the fish chips were, despite them clearly being picked at and mostly left. The pub wasn't busy with perhaps 4/5 tables occupied by the time we left. This pub can clearly do better judging by the over positive reviews. It manifestly failed for us, on our first visit as locals."

Finally got back here to try the food again. Was delicious, the roast dinner was perfect and the cheesecake dessert was amazing. This village pub is amazing and the staff are fantastic. Definitely will be back very soon.

Had lunch today at the Royal Oak felt extremely safe with organisation around covid 19. Enjoyed a couple of pints of Ghost Ship(the first draught beer in 4months) and a gluten friendly lunch for the wife and l.First visit and we shall return.

We visited for our anniversary and the food was great. We sat in the outdoor heated marquee. The staff went out of their way to make it special for us. They even gave us the tile from the table with an anniversary message on it....Highly recommended.

Visited pub for the first time, shown into the snug where it was freezing cold, kept our jackets on throughout our meal. Informed that the meals that we were going to order was not available. My wife is a vegetarian, other choice was a vegetable curry, this consisted of...aubergine which she doesn’t like and gravy.l had fish and chips appeared that the chips were the oddments from th3 frozen bag, peas looked very old. Not a good meal best thing about the visit was the drink…..

We came for an evening meal on a Friday night. While the menu doesn’t have a massive amount of choice, the food was tasty and good value. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. The pub had also taken great lengths to be covid safe...with social distancing prompts and hand sanitizer all throughout the pub. They also had glass screen in front of the bar and one way entrance system. It was also very well ventilated and contact details were taken on arrival for track and trace. Would definitely recommend!

too day and had the fish n chips. the fish tasted strange that I ate it, but had no idea what I ate. I asked the waitress after the meal, and she checked with the cook, who said it was squid. I've never had such a thing: it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't nice either. but squid? hmm. my friend had calfed leber and maic. while she said it was okay, she thought it tasted like running the mill-sweet leber. also we were charged £5.20 for two limes and limes! we complained about it, and they reduced the cost to £ 1.20 per, still a big win for them. all in all it was a pretty bad experience and we will not visit again.

has heard very good reviews about this beautiful village pub. I must say, however, that it was the worst customer service and eating that I have ever had! meal times came individually and either over boiled or under boiled! my chicken tagliatelle court came last....20...minds after all the others! the cook had forgotten my meal and it took two workers to confirm what I had ordered? when it arrived, it was in the ground package gilled huh, chopped mushrooms and pasta in a cream of mushroom soup. I could just laugh. I would say that they should stay just to be a pub and serve drinks. but the personal could not be right. I think this place must be on gordon ramseys Hell’s kitchen....and sack ba...
