"We spent the last three days in Porlock and visited this pub every day. Sometimes we went to eat, and other times just to enjoy the apple wine. Each time, we were made to feel welcome and like regulars! This is a genuine pub, where the landlord and landlady have a great rapport. Their banter is playful, and they engage with their customers in a wonderful way. We will definitely be returning!"

I had a fantastic Sunday roast at this restaurant. The drinks selection was excellent, and the highlight was definitely the dessert—sticky toffee pudding waffles, which were simply amazing. The staff was incredibly sweet and attentive. Overall, I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all a perfect 5 out of 5!

I was visiting Porlock from Australia and we came here for dinner and it is the best pub dinner we’ve both ever had, and in fact the best mussles and risotto we’ve both eaten. The food was so delicious, top restaurant quality and the service was amazing. I would come back here time and time again if I could. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Ver carta

Gastro pub food but within a Pub that feels like a Pub (Friendly, place to have drinks, dogs, tables spaced in a pub vibe way not columns). Some reasonable priced stuff like Burgers or you can pay £25+ for a special In my view, they've got it exactly right. Just go for drinks, some good value pub grub or a bit of an occasion Price per person: £40–50

We arrived late and after the kitchen closed. But the pub manager Dan and customers helped us order a takeaway from Minehead that was brought to the pub and enjoyed with a drink. Dan then gave me a lesson in astrophotography and where to find the planets in the night sky. What a warm welcome to Porlock. Price per person: £1–10 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

"I 've had very good food and service here before autumn 2022 so was surprised and disappointed after returning with a friend yesterday. The mozzarella and basil toasted sandwich sounded inviting, but the reality was underwhelming. Hardly any mozzarella, dry, no basil whatsoever, a thin slice of tomato who knows, perhaps I was mistakenly served a child 's portion. It was on such a small plate that the accompanying undressed salad leaves and few crisps fell off as soon as you tried to cut into the sandwich. Oh yes, and I wasn 't given a knife, just a fork, so when I went up to the counter about it I was told abruptly they don 't give out knives ! Though my friend, who 'd ordered a scone, had been given a knife! What 's that about? Friend said her cheese scone tasted sweet and left half of it. She said that last year she 'd had accompanying chutney, but not this time. When she mentioned the sweetness of the scone the reply was 'We 'll keep an eye on it. ' Whatever that means. The coffee I had was about half the size of what I had last year. It wasn 't at all busy when we were there, but the 3 people serving were mainly wandering around doing who knows what, totally not interested in engaging with us and did not even come up to the table to ask if everything was OK. Perhaps because they knew in advance it wasn 't . Very lazy attitude. They have no competition up there so perhaps they feel they don 't have to try anymore. Well, they 've now lost two local customers and I shan 't be going back with a group of friends as previously planned. The only positive is that the display of cakes looked the same as before, but I didn 't see what the portion sizes were, so cannot comment on that. If you 're feeling hungry I suggest you eat something before you go there."

"We were abused in here by loutish locals when we popped in for a drink mid-walk with our kids. The boozed-up local blokes sitting at the bar took exception to kids being allowed in their pub. They were swearing loudly and coarsely despite being next to children, and when my son literally tapped his seat with his foot, one of the louts used it as a pretext to turn to us and tell us to “SHUT YOUR KIDS UP!” He proceeded to loudly declaim the presence of children in the pub to his mates, swearing aggressively. The bar staff turned a blind eye, probably out of feckless boredom rather than ill-will. We had to get the kids away from the nasty situation so we got up to leave, not able to finish our drinks. I asked a barmaid to find the owner, who met us outside. She expressed apologies, saying that the guy was wrong and that this was a family pub, and we should come again soon. However, we were still effectively forced out of the pub by aggressive behaviour from a local drinker, and no attempt was made to re-accommodate us or refund us for the drinks we had to leave behind. The owner spoke to the regular, but he went back in to carry on boozing (and probably abusing) and we were left outside to be on our not-so-merry way. It was an extremely nasty experience for our children, let alone us. I know that some kids can be unruly, but our young children were sitting quietly at the table with us. It was evidently our mere presence was objectionable to the arrogant and territorial drunkards. I understand things are tough for local pubs across Britain, and regulars help supply a reliable income stream for them. But I think landlords should have a zero-tolerance approach to abusive behaviour, especially towards families. In my experience, I personally would not expect such a policy at The Bottom Ship, Porlock."
