"We came here for Sunday dinner. Our table wasn’t ready for 40 minutes as the previous diners hadn’t finished but this didn’t deter the staff accepting more walk ins for dinner. We were eventually shown a table, where my husband noticed pizza, chips and cutlery under the table. We asked a member of staff to sweep under the table where she put the dirty cutlery on the table totally unacceptable. There we sat and sat and sat. My daughter went to the bar and asked a member of staff if they would come and take our order, again we waited and waited. Again my daughter got up and asked if someone would come and take our order. And still, the pub was accepting walk ins! After a 90 minute wait, the starters arrived all but one up she got again and mentioned we still awaiting a starter. Plates were cleared and then we waited and waited and waited. Customers who arrived after ourselves were leaving as they had finished their meals and us, yes we were still waiting. Main course wasn’t worth the wait. Not once did a member of staff come to ask if everything was OK. My daughter went up to settle the bill where they came up with all these excuses, staff changeover, short staffed (if this is the case then don’t accept more walk ins) said they would take off a child’s meal that isn’t the point. Just wanted a good meal with good conversation and good service."

First class food and service in this beautiful historic old building. A lovely anniversary lunch. Not cheap since becoming one of Deben Inns places but it’s good

large car park and plenty of outdoor seating for good weather. Inside old beams and timber tables give the place character it deserves. Very good menu but quite expensive so would expect the best.

Excellent service and delicious food. Katie and her team were the epitome of professionalism. Which enabled my partner and I to have the perfect Sunday afternoon. The seafood platter is highly recommended

We made an unplanned stop for lunch at the Ship. We ate outside and enjoyed a very good two course meal. The service was friendly, and timely and the food was very good. We went on a midweek day and saw that the pub was soon busy with diners, when we had finished our meal we understood why. Ver carta

Had a party of 6 Adults 2 Children, staff very helpful, food came out quick, but first course was ok, but main course was not so good, I had slow cooked shoulder of lamb, which was re-heated and tasted not great, Same with 2 others that had the pie, not a great flavour, chicken stack was dry, sorry but not worth what we paid.

We had planned to go to the Ferryboat Inn at Felixstowe Ferry but as it was closed and we had heard good things about the Ship Inn we thought we should give it a try. We weren’t disappointed. There is a great atmosphere as soon as you enter and we were greeted by the staff. The food is excellent and very well priced. We enjoyed a lovely evening with our Canadian relatives. The sausage and mash is highly recommended.

Visited for Sunday lunch, having walked from Trimley Nature Reserve along the river. This pub was always nice but has had a very smart revamp. New owners? It is Deben Inns now. Very clean. Friendly staff. Adnams beer. The menu had many lovely things we could have chosen. In the end we shared sone crispy squid, then I had the seafood platter which was amazing (would feed two people) my husband daughter had the lamb pie. All the food was excellent. Looked good too. Probably one of the worst restaurant experiences ever. Really terrible slow service, was given a roast menu, decided and then were told no roasts left. It was a slow night yet stacks of dirty plates. After eating I was extremely poorly with food poisoning, and i emailed in to let the restaurant know. What i received was a blunt email back suggesting that the blame was on me for having a bug and not food poisoning. I was then ignored. I wont even return here, and it’s put me off going to any DEBEN inns. I don’t normally write reviews but because of the general awful experience I felt compelled to.

Booked a table for Saturday lunch with my family, glad I booked as was very busy. Walked in a waited nearly 10minutes at the bar before someone could even get to 'showing ' me to our table. I then had to go and get our own menus as was tired of waiting for them. Drinks were dispatched properly but we then asked for a few more minutes on food choices. 15mins later and the waitress still hadn 't reappeared so I got up only to see her behind the bar, looking at her phone and giggling with a colleague. The food itself was OK, if a little bland; I wasn 't thrilled by the menu and felt it was expensive for what it was. Over all a very mediocre experience and Deben Inns have got work to do to bring...

"This wasn’t our first visit (the previous occasion was more positive than this) but this was really quite poor. Problem after problem, service was poor and just not very welcoming. Firstly, drinks weren’t available issues with draft, but then bottles weren’t available either. So there was a very limited selection of drinks on offer and the staff weren’t proactive in advising what was available. So it was request and receive a no! Secondly, the food was poor. The starters were shocking. Really quite bad. There was a bit of redemption from some of the mains, but we elected to not proceed with anything else as it wasn’t great. We had to wait ages for drinks and foods to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty and many staff present. Frequently there were 3 staff at the back of the room standing about chatting, but they weren’t attentive to our needs. They didn’t check around the room to see if guests required additional drinks or require plates clearing. They didn’t check to see how the food was and when we complained regarding a starter they simply didn’t know how to handle it. When the draft beer came back on there was no proactive behaviour in returning to the table and letting us know so that more drinks could be ordered. Drinks were poured in wrong glasses, plates were cleared whilst people were still eating and then not cleared when they needed to be! Simply put the staff working had no idea on what table service should be perhaps they had received no training which is a major failing when the restaurant is part of a hotel. It was not welcoming. The restaurant was freezing cold. The service was really very poor and the food disappointing. They also don’t take dogs which in Aldeburgh is a bit weird. There is plenty of space and the tables are large so they would not be in the way. We won’t be returning."
