"My sister and I had booked an overnight stay at the Station Hotel in Insch. Despite sending texts and emails to let the hotel know we would be arriving at 4pm, we were met with locked doors and no signs of life on the premises when we arrived. A passing neighbor had to contact the proprietor on our behalf, and even then we were left waiting in the cold and windy weather for 45 minutes before ultimately leaving the grounds. This experience was chaotic and completely disrupted our family's plans. We were extremely disappointed in the lack of hospitality and customer service we received, especially during these difficult times for the hospitality industry. The fact that we encountered a locked front door instead of a warm welcome was unacceptable. As seasoned travelers, we have never experienced such a situation where we arrived at a hotel that was expecting us only to find the doors locked. We not only missed out on an overnight booking, but also on the opportunity to have dinner with six family members. We cannot recommend the Station Hotel in Insch for customer service or satisfaction. I would give it zero stars if I could."

We live in Insch and want to support this local buisness but the food is hugely overpriced for what you get. Iand a number of friends who also desperately want it to succeed feel that customers are paying restaraunt prices for average pub grub. I want to go back but have bad several really average but pricey meals to want to go back

Colin and Jackie are very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are modern and well equipped with plenty of space. At breakfast had good choice of continental or cooked breakfast. Enjoyed being able to have our own lounge area with TV in the evening . Plenty of space in restaurant for covid spacing. well cared for at a funeral tea

My partner and I arrived at the restaurant on Sunday 31st October around 2pm, fearing we might have missed the Sunday lunch service. To our delight, we were greeted by a team of friendly, professional, and helpful staff. We enjoyed a delicious, beautifully plated meal at a reasonable price, all within a charming dining atmosphere. If we find ourselves in the area again, we will definitely return to this restaurant.

We had a lovely evening meal with friends. The roast dinners were delicious. We then stayed overnight. The room was newly refurbished and the shower was amazing. The cooked breakfast was perfect. Jackie Colin are very welcoming hosts. I can only use one hand therefore all my food has to be cut up in the kitchen. This was no problem for them. We will definitely be coming to stay again as this very central for a lot in the area. It's right next to the train station for a day trip to Inverness Ver carta

Lovey looking hotel from outside lots of parking. Its not a hotel it's a B&B Only tea and coffee available, the bar down stairs was not re opening so no cold drinks after a 5 hour drive, bread for breakfast was wrapped in cling film and left in the fridge, for the contintental breakfast you help yourself fine enough, all the smoothies had gone over night, there was an open bottle of milk left in fridge a few yougerts and bottles of water. breakfast/dinner area only place to sit apart from room, No ckair in room , no wardrobe just a metal stand thing with 4 hangers. This could be an amazing hotel but needs to be people frendly.

We really like to support local businesses especially during these difficult times. So we took advantage of the take away service offered by the station hotel. The food was so disappointing, I really felt like none of it was homemade, and it was all out of a freezer into a frier. I had a chicken burger expecting a home made chicken breast burger instead I was faced with a processed burger. My husband had the beef burger and it tasted the same. Frozen chips into the frier, and not even a side salad. Maybe this is enjoyed by some, but honestly don’t think it would be that much effort to make home made food! Good pub grub would be a welcome change to the village.

Lunch was top notch and home made qualities shone through on all three courses from the golden vetagble soup to the macaroni and cheese and the cheese cake. By all accoutns the vegtable spring rolls, roast beef with all the trimmings and stick toffee pudding were also well recieved. I booked the station hotel initially for 15 poeple for a function and turned out there were a few extras and that was no trouble at all for them to accomodate. Its the first time in a while that I can say there was not one negative comment with food and service, hats off to Jackie and her staff for running a fantastic lunch service for us. When we are next back in the area dropping into the Station Hotel Insch fo... Ver carta

We arrived to find we were the only people staying there for the next 2 nights. We were shown our bedrooms which were very small but comfortable and warm. Then to the breakfast room where we were told there was no cooked breakfast available but we could help ourselves to items left eg yogurts, slices of bread left in cling film for toast etc, pain au chocolate in cling film, Kit Kats and a few pieces of fruit. The ‘breakfast’ room had a tv in which we could watch but no heating! It was freezing! We were left alone in the ‘hotel’ for 2 days as the owners were on holiday and had arranged for someone to just let us in and leave us breakfast!! We had not been informed of this before arriving and...

I recently moved to the Insch area and today was my first visit to The Station Hotel. I had booked a table for my son for Fathers Day. The venue was beautifully decorated and clean, the staff were pleasant and not overly intrusive. The Fathers Day menu was fantastic, with a prawn starter, roast beef burger and all-day breakfast mains, as well as a well-presented and delicious sticky toffee pudding for dessert, according to the rest of my family. My free Fathers Pint of Tennants was perfectly chilled and poured into a bottom-etched glass, ensuring a refreshing fizz throughout. We will definitely be back as soon as we can. It's a shame that due to Covid, footfall to the Station Hotel has decre...

"Sunday, 3rd September 2023 – 19:00 Meal: Wine Starters – Main – Coffee My friend and I arrived at 19:00 to a busy but not overfull restaurant without a reservation and they accommodated us upstairs. Menus were produced and we ordered a bottle of white wine and a jug of water. 0rders placed for starters and 2 servings of the Italian style fish stew on the ‘Specials Board’ at 26.99 each. Tomato and chilli with promises of loads of different fish. The toss up was between a steak or the stew (which neither of us would cook at home). The table was dirty and needed wiping – this request was placed 3x on the young waitron who eventually produced a cloth slopping water from a bucket in the corner cupped in her hands where she half heartedly wiped the table with water dripping onto my friend’s lap. Hurried mop up with tissues out of my bag. The white wine was plonked on the table – next to the cooler – unopened and no glasses. Several attempts were made to attract the waitron’s attention. Eventually another bottle was produced opened and we were advised the waitron was under age and not allowed to pour wine. Perfectly acceptable had she produced an opener and the glasses with an explanation I would have been happy to help myself – we understand and appreciate these things. The starters arrived and were delicious! The chef then came out to see us and explained that there was no lobster for the stew – we asked for extra monkfish, he then said there was no monkfish left – but could help us with other white fish and crab claws. He said he was down to the last 2 portions, and he would ensure they were hearty. We were a bit concerned and suggested perhaps we settle for the steak which is always delicious. He assured us we had made the right choice and would enjoy the stew. The stews arrived and were ‘hearty’ if being crammed with the contents of a tin of crab claws is your definition of hearty. The promised ‘rich tomato broth with chilli and garlic’ was a watered down version of what was clearly less than a cup of the original broth left at the bottom of the pot topped with water. It was tasteless – lacking in hint of either chilli, wine, garlic or herbs – having lived in Malta I can assure you I have a deep understanding of Med cooking. I guess we were lucky we didn’t have the salty brine of the crab claws as the broth. It was inedible and we were starving so we kept adding salt and pepper – we were beyond the point of returning the food which was a mistake in hindsight. We skipped dessert – had coffees and left. The meal came to nearly £100.00. This was an expensive lousy experience. We paid a generous tip – because they accommodated us without a reservation. Take aways from the experience: • The restaurant service on a Sunday evening at 19:00 should be as good as it is on a Friday at 19:00 • Being a local and having eaten there several times – it is my first choice for a ‘good’ meal – don’t abuse the luxury of local support. • Train your waitrons to clean tables, by wringing out the cloth and not dripping water on your patrons. • Waitrons (even under aged ones) should at least carry a wine opener, and understand that wine glasses should be produced when delivering wine. • Your chef should know better and never, ever assume he can cut costs by selling the dregs from his kitchen. • A poor dining experience costs you more than you think. We would have ordered dessert, and more importantly returned for a second meal in the next week – WE DIDN’T! I have a friend coming from Ireland in November – do I risk taking her to the Anchor?"
