"Charming pub with a fantastic atmosphere. There's a lively main bar and a quieter separate dining area, perfect for those seeking a more relaxed experience. The pub also features a generous garden for children and plenty of outdoor seating. I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive and diverse menu, which ranges from fish and chips to lamb's liver, with plenty of fish and seafood options. The fisherman's basket I tried was delicious and generously portioned, accompanied by crispy chips. The prices are reasonable as well. There's a large parking lot, but remember to enter your registration number at the bar to avoid a fine. Definitely worth a visit!"

"My partner and I had just finished our day at the Port Lympne zoo and looked up vegan food nearby. Only a 10 minute drive away, and when we arrived we received a warm welcome. Lovely intimate feel to the place, food was very tasty, and the owner was lovely and generous. I personally recommend the Dal and the Victoria sponge cake with cashew butter and jam. Honestly can't say enough good things about this place, and considering the business has only been running for about a year, it'll only keep improving! Shame I live all the way out in Basildon Essex where there are no luxuries like this gem, so appreciate it!"

"I have been coming to Alfriston for many, many years, as just live in nearby Brighton. We were so excited to learn that Alex Polizzi had totally renovated The Star. We booked to come here for my birthday on 4th March. We were disappointed that we were not able to dine in the main restaurant for our late lunch. We had to dine in the main pub area which although was pleasant, we were dressed smartly for the restaurant, so felt quite overdressed in the pub area. The lady who served us was very polite and friendly. We had a three course meal and each of us had a glass of Prosecco and a glass of Malbec. The food was delicious. I started with Sicilian tomato and basil Arancini and my partner opted for the tomato Gazpacho soup which quite frankly, could have fed a family of 4! I’ve never seen such a large portion of gazpacho in my life! It was far too much really.. I had to help him out. For the main, we both chose the chicken Milanese which was absolutely delicious and for dessert, we both chose the chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. All the lovely staff, including the chef came out to sing happy birthday to me with a candle in my dessert. : We then spent some time in front of the fire chatting with our coffee and then a glorious half an hour or so in the library reading the newspapers and looking at books which is usually just meant for residents, but it was very quiet on the day we went for our lunch so we were allowed entrance. One of the staff showed us the secret door in the library, too! : Everywhere is immaculately spotless, including the toilets which are equipped with lovely hand-wash and hand cream. There is an area equipped with Wellington boots and waterproof capes for inclement weather, and sun hats to put on in the beautiful courtyard for the spring and summer months …they’ve thought of everything! We did not stay at The Star, as we just live down the road in Brighton, so cannot comment on the rooms. This Hotel/Restaurant is high-end and I highly recommend this place for special occasions."

"The restaurant has only a few tables, making it fairly quiet, but the log burner and heating keep it nice and warm. This was our second time having lunch here with my elderly parents and we all enjoyed the food and hospitality. It's a bit off the beaten path, but definitely worth a visit. It's nice to support a local business, even though we live in Hythe, we still think of Burmarsh as local. We're excited to try their pizza night with an Italian chef. The price per person ranges from £10 to £20."

"Absolutely lovely meal. Obviously it is very busy with the time of year but we were lucky and turned up just as they had a table free. A lovely young lady just said can we wait a couple of minutes for her to clean it and set up for us which I really liked. Food was lovely and very good value. I wish I'd had room for the lovely cakes on display. I plan on visiting again for the vienesse whirls. It was only on the way home I realised I forgot to tip. I will tip double in future as the staff are a credit"
