"We’ve just come back from a two day stay here with several other families all gathered for a funeral of a well-loved aged aunt and were underwhelmed. The riverside terrace is attractive and a nice feature. The rooms were mostly ok and the...beds comfortable, though two couples were given rooms above the bar, were kept awake really late because of the noise, and had to cope with a naked drunken guest urinating against their bedroom door in the early hours. Not well- handled by the hotel. We had two large group evening meals there and were not over-impressed with the fairly traditional menu or the quality of the food: the sausage and mash for example were agreed to be be good, the lasagne and veg lasagne less so, and the baked sweet potato with hummus and rocket salad badly needed more hummus to make a proper main course. The very limited dessert menu was also a disappointment. Breakfasts though were uniformly poor tepid coffee, no cappuccinos though there’s an espresso machine there, and tepid cooked breakfasts with several items clearly cooked beforehand and then not kept hot the beans, the tomatoes, the scrambled eggs, the hash browns. The small bowls of freshly-chopped fruit were welcome though really needed a wider range of fruit than chopped apple, and there was a distinct shortage of marmalade and jam for the toast. Service was a bit scrappy and used plates were not removed from the tables and the dining room wasn’t that busy. Overall we weren’t that impressed by what’s a fairly expensive stay we won’t be hurrying back."

absolutely wonderful pub. the personal is very beautiful and the eating is fantastic! beautiful sitting opportunities are the flow outside of the beautiful natives, quite often live music by jack O’Rouke, which has the place full of life.

Great setting for a proper old English pub, great local banter at the bar, food is good especially the Sunday Roast. Rooms are clean tidy and comfortable and breakfast was superb. All the staff were very professional and have a great sense of humour. I...would recomend whole heartedly

.and we all had a wonderful time. In view of the difficulties that so many pubs and restaurants have today down in the southwest, these young (mainly galaxy) have made exceptionally good; on a party of 8 adults and 4 children can be a challenge to the best times. as it was, not only the traditional pub grub was excellent, but it was all hot and at the same time a trick that no more than a few businesses take off. given a breathtaking location, a dash of old world charm, a fine selection of ales and a decent weinlist, they could not really ask for more. many thanks again we will be back.

Lovely setting right next to the river. This is very much a traditional friendly pub serving a good range of ales and good pub food. Came here a couple of times for drinks and one night for dinner. The night we came or dinner I...think there was a celebration for the owners family which was nice to see lots of people from different generations having a nice day. The food is reasonably priced and nice selection -I had a Chicken burger which was very tender and moist followed by sticky toffee pudding which was fantastic. This is not fine dining but a good place to consider a stop with friends or family. Ver carta

Where can I start? This is my favourite pub of all time. The riverside setting is delightful as are all of the staff. I was lucky enough to be there last Friday when there was live Irish music from Jack O'Rourke. The landlady, Sarah also...allowed a couple who were staying in their campervan to play and they too were brillant. The service is impeccable...Leah (Sarah's sister) runs a flawless bar service, along with her daughter, Mia. It is a true family run pub and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are spotless and the food is amazing. There is a children's play area which is immaculately maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend this pub to anyone staying in the area. A real hidden...

for Sunday dinner. the location is wonderful, but once inside, the greeting was best and the inner happy. the Sunday roast menu was very simple with nothing other than roast meat or nuts, for children nothing but roast. just a look. when it arrived, it was out of plaster when everything had been crushed in thicker, gloopyer gravur. what was below was quite well boiled and delicious, but ruined by over thick incredibly salty mass produced heavy power, which overwhelmed everything and could not be avoided. the server managed a smile, but the manager has not recognized our arrival or departure. added that adult seats are better suited for children, it was a thoroughly disappointing meal and a s...

"The positive is that the food is good. But the negative is the service time and the attitude of the staff. We were seated and had our order taken after 20 minutes. A little slow but it was a busy Saturday evening so understandable. Starters came promptly and were eaten. We then got ignored by every passing member of staff for at least 50 minutes. Quite the skill! Once there was a break in our conversation and I realised how long it had been, I stood up to intercept a waitress and asked “are our mains on the way, please?” Our ticket was checked by her at the kitchen hatch and we were told “yes”. At this point our starter plates were cleared after they had sat on the table for at least 35 minutes. Our mains then took another 25 minutes to get to us, so I suspect that being told they were on their way was a lie. To be clear: we were given our mains 1hr 20 mins after placing our order. I complained to a waitress who sent over a manager. The manager asked if we’d had starters (yes, we had) and said that it was our fault our main was so late as we’d had a first course. How insulting!!! Blaming the customer for their bad service. Disgusting. When I said it was still far too long to wait between courses she then changed tack and said the kitchen was “really really busy” well, they weren’t busy cooking our food now were they?! And despite the place being full when we arrived, by this point of the night over half the tables were empty. There were 3 tickets on the pass along with ours and tables were 2 4 people (no large groups) so I feel that was also another lie to get out of it. What a shocking way to treat customers! My advice to you is: if you want your food served in a timely manner, either take the advice of the manager and don’t order a starter, or, be sure to communicate with waitstaff once your first course is finished and ask for your main to be cooked and served promptly. (Note: food also sat under the heat lamps for long lengths of time as staff stood socialising with one another behind the bar rather than serve customers) I hope this advice is of use as I would have appreciated it ahead of my visit! Good luck. [Reading other reviews, ours is not the only experience of slow service and seeing staff chat to one another rather than deal with the customers paying their wages.
