"The Moorland Hotel is under new management and it is now absolutely shocking. We 've had 2 out of 2 bad experiences in the last few weeks which will mean we will NEVER go again despite the fact that it used to be our favourite place to go (before it changed hands). Firstly, we had a 50th birthday meal booked. A pretty big occasion you 'd agree. However, we were phoned just a few days before the meal to be told that they 'd have to cancel because they had a large wedding on with the guests staying over and implied, therefore, that they were more important and took priority over us. We were left looking for somewhere else to go at short notice. At that point, I suggested they had lost our business, but foolishly we gave them another chance. Their second chance was today. We 've just got back from holiday abroad, no food in etc, so we decided to eat out. We checked on the Moorland 's website and booked a table for two and received the reservation confirmation. When we got there, the manager looked surprised and said we are no longer doing food . We explained we had a booking and he just stated again we 've stopped doing food . But we have a booking we explained again. It turns out, that despite the signs outside saying Sunday roast 12-2pm and despite the website, new owners took over a month or so ago and have stopped doing food and just haven 't bothered to update the website. What sort of amateur runs a company like that? Takes over, doesn 't bother to make even a single little change to the website, not even a under new management notice. But worse, leaves the old site working so that you can book a meal and turn up for it to find out they don 't do food! I wouldn 't go back in a million years now."

"We’ve just come back from a two day stay here with several other families all gathered for a funeral of a well-loved aged aunt and were underwhelmed. The riverside terrace is attractive and a nice feature. The rooms were mostly ok and the...beds comfortable, though two couples were given rooms above the bar, were kept awake really late because of the noise, and had to cope with a naked drunken guest urinating against their bedroom door in the early hours. Not well- handled by the hotel. We had two large group evening meals there and were not over-impressed with the fairly traditional menu or the quality of the food: the sausage and mash for example were agreed to be be good, the lasagne and veg lasagne less so, and the baked sweet potato with hummus and rocket salad badly needed more hummus to make a proper main course. The very limited dessert menu was also a disappointment. Breakfasts though were uniformly poor tepid coffee, no cappuccinos though there’s an espresso machine there, and tepid cooked breakfasts with several items clearly cooked beforehand and then not kept hot the beans, the tomatoes, the scrambled eggs, the hash browns. The small bowls of freshly-chopped fruit were welcome though really needed a wider range of fruit than chopped apple, and there was a distinct shortage of marmalade and jam for the toast. Service was a bit scrappy and used plates were not removed from the tables and the dining room wasn’t that busy. Overall we weren’t that impressed by what’s a fairly expensive stay we won’t be hurrying back."

"So when I ordered my breakfast sandwich I asked if you had gluten free bread you checked with the kitchen and they did!! (good start …. but then you should always ask the person ordering if they are coeliac‘s (because in my experience many people don’t mention it, and they should So I then reassured you that I’m not coeliac but just very sensitive to wheat and other glutens. You then brought my Sandwich to me and my family. Halfway through the meal I started getting a bellyache and as I cut into the sausage I realise it had little grains in it (I can generally tell it a mile away! So that’s two days are feeling iffy for me now! I then checked with a different person at the counter and she confirmed that the sausages are not gluten free. I wish I had asked for obviously I’m trusting that you guys know what you’re doing! (if I ask for gluten free bread you really should endeavour to make sure the meal is gluten free! If I was coeliac’s you could’ve been in serious trouble (as well as me!! And I hate to say it but the (pre cooked , breakfast was incredibly dry and you didn’t give me any butter for the bread (I had to ask for it just to ‘wet it up a bit’ FYI dairy and gluten are not the same thing IF that’s why you held back on the butter?! Seriously now in these days of Natashas law and the recent case of a lady almost dying (if not dying? , from a dairy intolerance you really do need to train your staff to get a little bit more knowledgeable about this kind of thing and the more I eat out, the more strongly I’m beginning to feel about this it’s simply not acceptable So many restaurants and Cafes are completely uneducated and it is winding me up! It is also the law! Cxxx"
