"Complete contrast to last year, which was excellent. A complete waste of £110 for our two meals. The obvious staff shortage was understandable during the current crisis and we're grateful for those that were there. However, we waited over an hour for our main course after finishing starter, 3/4 hour for dessert. The quality of the food was abysmal. Toast not toasted, cold turkey, indifferent vegetables. Poor, barely roasted potatoes. The bacon on the pigs in blankets was practically raw. The Christmas pud was cheap and unpleasant; cheesecake with a thick biscuit base and tasteless. I asked to speak to the manager afterwards to no avail, subsequent telephone calls to the pub to discuss my complaints with the management have not been responded to. We're very upset and disappointed."

The service is fantastic and friendly. Food is nice and a good selection of beers and wines. Cosy pub and outdoor seating if needed. Really nice traditional pub just off High road East.

First visit for a lunch but found the entrance door rotten with a large hole in the woodwork so that was not a good advert. Landlord a lovely guy helpful and friendly. Food slow to arrive, reminded us of Spain but was ok.

Whilst visiting a friend in Felixstowe we decided to have lunch at The White Horse. We both opted for the roast. The food was served hot, tasty and beautifully presented. Staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend. Ver carta

Food very good. Staff polite and helpful. Only concern was the hour wait from ordering main course to actually eating, even though only 2 tables taken at the time. Then almost 45 min wait for dessert. Obviously insufficient kitchen staff to cope.

We stopped in on a nice sunny day for a spot of lunch in the beer garden. Plenty of seating available outside. A very friendly welcome on arrival which continued throughout the visit. The food was good value at the price. Not the best quality but reflected the cost. An old fashioned English pub with a friendly atmosphere. Ver carta

The bought-in dessert today has made me feel very poorly. They knew I am allergic to gluten and dairy, and made sure the main course was OK (ham egg and chips the only option really, but it was tasty). However with the dessert I asked them to check it was also free of oats. After some time, they confirmed it was. But it turns out oats were one of the main ingredients. Now feeling ill. There are many other restaurants in Felixstowe which understand food allergies correctly.

We arrived on a Saturday evening at 7:45. We were seated placed our order promptly. Unfortunately, despite there only being 5 other tables in the pub we did not receive our meals until 9:15. When we told the staff that although the food was lovely, the service was slow, the response was “you were the unlucky table”. We have tried the white horse numerous times and the waiting times always seem to let such a lovely little pub down. Tonight’s experience has really put us off coming again.

"This wasn’t our first visit (the previous occasion was more positive than this) but this was really quite poor. Problem after problem, service was poor and just not very welcoming. Firstly, drinks weren’t available issues with draft, but then bottles weren’t available either. So there was a very limited selection of drinks on offer and the staff weren’t proactive in advising what was available. So it was request and receive a no! Secondly, the food was poor. The starters were shocking. Really quite bad. There was a bit of redemption from some of the mains, but we elected to not proceed with anything else as it wasn’t great. We had to wait ages for drinks and foods to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was practically empty and many staff present. Frequently there were 3 staff at the back of the room standing about chatting, but they weren’t attentive to our needs. They didn’t check around the room to see if guests required additional drinks or require plates clearing. They didn’t check to see how the food was and when we complained regarding a starter they simply didn’t know how to handle it. When the draft beer came back on there was no proactive behaviour in returning to the table and letting us know so that more drinks could be ordered. Drinks were poured in wrong glasses, plates were cleared whilst people were still eating and then not cleared when they needed to be! Simply put the staff working had no idea on what table service should be perhaps they had received no training which is a major failing when the restaurant is part of a hotel. It was not welcoming. The restaurant was freezing cold. The service was really very poor and the food disappointing. They also don’t take dogs which in Aldeburgh is a bit weird. There is plenty of space and the tables are large so they would not be in the way. We won’t be returning."
