This family-run trattoria located at 65 Via Selva, in the village of Baruffini about 10-15 minutes by car or taxi from Tirano, has been in business for a long time. The reason is because of the hospitality, familiarity with the patrons, whether they’re repeat customers or new guests, the prices and fabulous dishes, all delivered with care and love of the local produce. People visit from nearby Switzerland to eat at this establishment. I’m no stranger to this trattoria, and I enjoy sharing it with my friends when we’re in the area. Location wise it is a bit of a challenging trek driving uphill through narrow winding roads especially in wintry weather. Once there you get a lovely panoramic view of the valley. Access is via a steep staircase with no disable/ pushchair access. Being a trattoria this is a no frills family run restaurant offering generously sized hearty dishes. Ingredients are sourced locally, including a nice super value house red wine. Beware though, if you are after a light meal or on a diet this may not be for you, typical Valtellinese cuisine is very tasty due to its high fat content! We were recommended this restaurant by a local and the pilgrimage to get there up windy road was one thing, when we arrived. the welcome wasn’t exactly great, even though we had booked. They appeared quite busy, and we were shown to our table of two, the menu was in Italian fine . My wife had to translated as she’s Italian, we ordered an antipasto for two, which came to separate plates, so one plate was actually enough waitress could of mentioned , some local cold meats and some funny tasting buckwheat fritters vegetarian not to my taste … My main was lamb rack with fried potatoes apparently grilled vege appeared frozen … lamb was nothing special and you could of been anywhere in world with...
