"I called into Truffles, Henfield for a quick lunch. I ordered scrambled egg on toast. Well, I am not really sure what was served up but it looked like slop on a plate. It was white and insipid looking absolutely no sign of any yolk. Was this made from real eggs or from powdered muck? If it was real eggs the chef needs sacking! The toast underneath was sodden. I took one mouthful and new I couldn't try a second. I got a small refund for the inconvenience but nothing like the inconvenience I had of making a hasty dash to the bathroom!!!! Before Truffles (who may respond) blame this on anything else I had eaten I had not!"

We often pop In here for mouth watering cakes and a cup of coffee, staff are all local and very friendly, and there a nice relaxing sunny garden as well as outside seating at the front. And we love the area.

Ordered baked potato with tuna. Takeaway. Last baked potato no garnish just plonked in a box without any salt pepper. Tuna has very little mayonnaise in it very tasteless I threw in bin after a couple of mouthfuls. Wasted money

The Portuguese custard tarts are excellent, as are the Dutch Almond thingies (whose name escapes me), and the jam doughnuts are as good as anywhere. On the downside, they pack their otherwise good bread in polythene bags, which ruins the crust within hours. Ver carta

Always a very nice display outside, all is clean and tidy. The layout of the whole store could be better but if you are only popping in for pastries there's not much to worry about! I would recommend the doughnuts but everything is all very tasty overall. Glad to have you in the village.

We dropped in by chance and were pleasantly surprised by the high quality scrambled eggs and egg sandwich with salad, both served on excellent granary bread. The only small criticism is that the cafe was very cold with no obvious heating on an exceptionally cold day. However, the staff were warm and friendly, which made up for the low temperature. What a waste of money! The food here is disgusting. I bought a jacket potato with cheese and beans last Friday and if I had thrown the potato at someone it would probably have killed them. As hard as a rock, cheap, nasty beans and rubbery cheese. Thank god I found the gem of a place in Partridge Green …. They knock spots off of Truffles and cheaper too!!!!

I haven't been to Henfield in a long time, and it was very cold when I arrived. I stopped in for a coffee and cake, but the service was poor. The cake was very thin, and the coffee was barely warm. I wasn't told that ordering filter coffee with a slice of cake would be cheaper than what I paid. The tables were dirty and were not cleaned promptly after customers left. I definitely will not be returning to Truffles restaurant again.

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"
