"Afternoon Tea for fourYou had to order at reception and pay before you were seated so didn't realise until when we got into the dining area that it was completely empty. No one was even having lunch. We were served one sandwich each with the crusts cut off so the sandwiches were tiny. There were 4 pieces of chocolate cake which was overly sweet and very dry and also 4 small pieces of lemon cake. The scones were freshly cooked and lovely however only one pot of jam and a small basket of crisps to share between four of us. All in all not worth the money. This is worst afternoon tea we have ever had! The worst part of all was my friend went to reception (as there were no staff about) to ask for more tea and was charged for it! Absolute rip off don't go there. Have had better hot lunches for half the price at better places. Drab and dreary decor but big canvas print of owner in her younger years in dining hall??"

A pleasure to return, fantastic lunch. Waitress are friendly and the service is great. The food is well cooked to a high standard, one of Kent’s hidden GEMS.

This was the smallest roast dinner I have ever seen! I recommend eating beforehand as it won't fill you up at all. The apple crumble is basically stewed apple with a few sprinkles of granola on top! It's definitely not worth the money.

Visited this Hotel on numerous occasions and simply love chilling out in the amazing venue for Tea. Served in lovely china and from a quality Tea Pot sounds a little pretentious but sometimes its nice to step back in time and enjoy life.

I met some friends from out of town for lunch at this very old-fashioned and relaxing restaurant. We sat on the terrace in comfortable seats and enjoyed sandwiches, wine, and a pot of tea. The food and drinks were brought to our table after we ordered at the front desk. They were reasonably priced and delicious. We all agreed that we could definitely get used to having lunch in such a laid-back atmosphere.

The splendid veranda of the Walpole Bay, shaded with geraniums and the glorious Edwardian Hotel behind is the perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon tea. Expect Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot to wander past at any moment.Cream tea was perfect, fresh hot scones with clotted cream, jam and strawberries, finger sandwiches in our case smoked salmon, egg, ham and cucumber, and moist cake lemon drizzle and chocolate. A perfect afternoon transported a back to a bygone age.

We had hopes for this restaurant and it was the meanest most old fashioned ham salad I think I have ever seen. Ordering and paying at the reception before we went to the dining room didn't help us to feel welcome. Plus it is hugely overpriced. It is run on the style of a cheap workmen's cafe which would be fine only it has far grander pretensions. The whole room is rather dreadful with a very large amount of photographs of the clearly self loving owner and a lot of clutter.

Took my friend for a cream tea with sandwiches for her birthday. Have been here before for lunch but today the restaurant seemed huge, lacked atmosphere, no background music. Waited a while for the tea to come out, looked nice and was told if we required anything else ie more water, tea just ask. But that was the thing, we couldn’t find anyone! We waited to see if anyone came out but gave up, we would have liked some more tea/ coffee, waited for someone to bring out the bill but nothing so I went to reception to pay, had a bit of a wait as there were people checking in. Not sure I would be in a rush to go back as have had many afternoon teas and overall this wasn’t the best experience I enco...

Unfortunately, our dining experience at the Walpole on a Sunday did not meet our expectations. Despite a warm welcome and a nice table, the meal fell short. The restaurant was busy with families and older couples, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The complimentary roll was unremarkable and the starters were decent, with the garlic mushrooms being a highlight. The main roast dinners were served promptly, but the waitstaff struggled with condiment knowledge. The portions were generous, but the vegetables lacked flavor. Desserts were disappointing, being store-bought and overly sweet. The cheese board was a slight improvement. The live piano music added to the ambiance, but at £25 per person, th...

"Having been raised at the knees of Caribbean and African women, sometimes I’m just in need of some soul food. I’ve often gone past Mullins and seen that it is busy, and looks bright, clean, warm and friendly. And it is. The decor works really well. Low-key, warm and welcoming. Music is a soothing stream of lilting Caribbean classics. The waiting staff are lovely. So friendly. And the menu looks great. There isn’t too much of it, and it is quite hard to choose because it all sounds amazing. Price points are really good. But. The food is genuinely terrible. I went for a Creole fish stew. I don’t know how you can make a stew without flavour. When you are cooking things slowly and together, flavour infuses flavour. But not here. This was a good sized portion of piping hot well presented food. But my God it tasted awful. Basically chopped potato surrounded by small lumps of bland unidentifiable white fish, half a dozen mussels, some of which were still closed, and therefore inedible, and three flavourless prawns in shells. There was a pinch of Samphire on the top, and this was the sum total of the vegetables I could find. It came in what I can only describe as a thick red sauce. If there was tomato in it, there was no flavour to it. It was highly salty, and this was the dominant flavour throughout. The fish had no flavour of fish, and it was intensely spiced in a lip plumping way. Essentially, it was all heat and salt. With a slight tang of gents toilets. I suspect this was from the mussels. I did raise the blandness twice with the waiter, and the strange unpleasant toilet flavour. He said he would tell chef. And that was that. No feedback on the dreadful flavour other than that it was all fresh. I ate the entirety of the meal because I had travelled a long way and had not eaten. I saw it simply as fuel. It was not enjoyable. I paid and left. Mullins is so close to getting everything right, but a restaurant is its food. I’m not going back."
