Walsumer Hof - Carta

It was a little unexpected because the restaurant is located at the end of a lonely road, right next to an industrial field. However, the food was very good (excellent fish) and so was the service. Friendly and efficient staff. A place worth visiting if you are around Duisburg or Düsseldorf.

This old inn is on the river Rhine at the centre of what used to be a small ferry town near Duisburg. All buildings have been demolished except for the Walsumer hof to build two new powerplants (opened in 2006 but still not working well)... Good restaurant to eat fish in a very cosy and yet surreal athmosphere. Don't drink too much you'll have hallucinations when you walk out.

Best fish restaurant I know in this area. Dresscode:: casual. It might be that you are sitting around big tables together with other guests. Nice arranged selection of starters gives the first impression about the high standard of the cuisine.The quality and the tast of fish and mussels, freshly smoked or grilled or boiled accompanied by rice or fried potatos and whatever is outstanding..It offers good value for the money. I never found a place that was that welcoming ! Everybody is here to make you small stay confortable. I was alone, they brought me some stuff to read. The map is very funny to read. The food is extraordinary good ! Don't choose, let them present their dish and make you menu, you won't regret it ! I took the small plate, and I am a good eater, I could not finish it. Don't take your Creditcard, you'll have to pay cash -> not a problem for me as they deserve not to pay extra taxes ! If I get the chance to bring people there, I surely will !!!

I had the fortune of dining at the Walsumer Hof three times in the five months. I have never really looked at the menu and have always relied on Carsten, the very nice and superbly helpful waiter, to pick what's the best for that evening. I usually eat in moderation but I have left without room to spare because it's simply amazing. I usually ask that two of the fish dishes be smoked and the rest are the chefs choice. It's rustic fare (my favorite) and done with a lot of love. The owner/chef always stops by to make sure the dinner is to your liking (a really old school yet much appreciated touch).

The Walsumer Hof, which is now insulated, is the most famous restaurant Walsums and definitely one of the most famous fish restaurants in the region. Number plates from all over NRW and the Netherlands can be seen regularly in the parking lot of the restaurant. The sympathy of the great tribal clientele is completely justified. There are many advantages when visiting the Walsumer Hof. The original Atmosphöre with the flair of an old harbour pub, the wide selection of daily dishes and not to forget the open and sympathetic nature of the owner Matthias Langhoff. The very old and traditional House is run by the owner as a Descendant of a family of gastronomers. The owner is not an anonymous "never to be seen"- Owner but the Chef in Person who also welcomes and farewell every single guest as a long known friend. The waiters are fast and very friendly.All meals are at best quality, fresh fish, fresh meat, sometimes made out of pigs running around in the garden before (you'll get some words to distain the fish at a fish-restaurant for sure), Amuse-Gueule (small portion of fishes, mussels, king prawns etc.) are served in enormous amounts. You'll never go out hungry, thats for sure! Don't dare to say something like that, you'll get even more... :-)

If you like fish, this cozy place is the place to go. The young cheerful waitress didn't even let us read the whole menu, as it seems the best way to order here is to let them give you a few choices and then recommend something. The fish comes prepared one of three ways: steamed, smoked, or lightly pan-fried. I think pan-fried was the best, but my husband also enjoyed the smoked ones. They have many types of fish to offer- bass, halibut, catfish, etc. You can choose a large portion or a smaller one, with bones or without, one type of fish or two. Most dishes come with all-you-can-eat oven-fried potatoes and a very nice salad with lots of yummy bits in it- not just plain lettuce and the token...
