Welcome Inn Dawlish

We came for Sunday carvery when we visited Dawlish. The food was good, although the beef was a bit chewy. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Service was quick and friendly and the Covid-19 set up was good. We would return if we came back to the area.

The food at this restaurant is excellent with a wide variety of options on the menu. The tables are spaced out for social distancing and there is table service. The staff is very friendly and overall, it is definitely worth a visit. It feels safe to dine here.

We were unsure what to expect due to Covid however the facilities were fantastic especially as my dad is in a wheelchair. It was easily accessible and plenty of room inside. Plenty of sanitising. We had scampi, lamb shank and steak and ale pie and found the food lovely and reasonably priced. Staff were welcoming and helpful.

The staff were doing their jbest they could, but place and food was SO mundane. It was on a par with corner shop cheap takeaways. When we arrived the overflowing drains from the kitchen should have been an effective portent of the sad excuse for an evening out. It was probably the side effect and over reaction from the management in respect to the Covid pandemic. But basically the place was understaffed and unkempt resulting in a service that created an environment that was depressing.

A pub of such a name, I would expect somewhat of a warmer welcome. I understand that times are difficult with covid, but a smile and hello would be ‘welcome’. The drinks were lovely, didn’t have food, but wouldn’t. Seems reliant on people to sit outside (fair enough, but would suggest a lick of paint and clean). Inside was dark and dreary, just glad the toilets were clean. We didn’t exactly feel comfortable, which wouldn’t be a hard fix in my opinion. Great location, needs a bit of work.

We have been to this pub on previous vacations and have never been let down. The food selection is good and well-prepared, our grandkids devoured everything on their plates and the homemade fries are amazing. While this place may not have all the fancy extras like the Ritz, it is definitely at the top of our list to visit again and far surpasses the competition across the road. Social distancing was not an issue and we were able to have a conversation without being overwhelmed by loud background music while enjoying our meal.

What a disappointing place to eat.The starters were the garlic mushrooms ,soup and the prawns which we all enjoyed but all 4 main courses were so basic for the price they charged was a definite rip off.The bottle of Sauvignon Blanc was the cheapest they could buy and they charged £17.50 a bottle yet another rip off .The waitress needed intense training in service it was so bad ,just one example whilst eating our main meal she came and asked did we want the bill.I could go on with a long list but I think I will sum it up by saying don’t go there.

We decided to dine at the Welcome Inn among many dining options and made a reservation ahead of time. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our table and instructed to order our food and drinks at the bar. We found it a bit confusing when we were told to move back as we were too close to the bar, despite the person before us being right up at the bar. It was also unexpected when we were informed that only one person per table could go to the bar. After figuring out our order in a crowded bar area, we were directed to the carvery. Don’t get me wrong... the food is still great. But the change of owners and change of process baffles me. They have gotten rid of table service and moved to ‘order at the bar’. That wouldn’t be so bad if all the staff mucked in and helped.... but there is one bloke behind the bar who insists on doing everything while the waitresses stand around doing nothing in between running food and drinks.
