"We arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday evening with high expectations after reading the reviews and awards. To our surprise, the pub was only half full, but we were seated at a large table and took a look at the menu. The menu consisted of a mix of pub staples like fish and chips and burgers, as well as more adventurous options like beetroot ravioli and partridge, along with a few starters like scotch egg and souffle. Unfortunately, the menu didn't quite meet our high expectations and leaned more towards safe and traditional dishes rather than something worthy of a 5-star reputation. Although the food we were served was well-prepared, with the fish in beer batter being a highlight, overall it didn't impress us. The atmosphere took a hit as the pub started to empty out around 7:30pm, leaving us with just loud music to drown out our conversations. The service was a bit sloppy, with servers walking around the table to serve guests instead of passing food across and offering bread halfway through the meal instead of before. Our first impressions weren't great either, as the entrance took us through an almost empty bar where the few locals were quietly drinking beer and watching the restaurant guests. Overall, the experience was not bad, but it didn't quite meet our expectations for a 5-star rating. We would rate it 3.5 stars instead of 3."

A group of 5 of us were staying local and headed here for lunch and wow it did not disappoint. I opted for the burger followed by peaches and cream for dessert. Everything tasted fantastic, was plated beautifully and the pub has a wonderful atmosphere

We know it well. New menu this week. Ginea fowl mains truly excellent. They are trying hard here and succeeding. It’s not cheap, but where is now? Deserves your custom. Food and drink locally sourced and all the better for it. Support your local pub/restaurant! Service friendly prompt and unobtrusive. It’s all good.

Super friendly welcome on arrival and efficient service. The food was freshly cooked and outstanding I opted for the vegetarian katsu curry served on a cauliflower steak and it was amazing. The others chose mussels in a bacon and cider sauce and the burger. Both agreed their dishes were excellent and are looking forward to a return visit.

Having seen the a la carte menu on the website we went hoping to have a really delicous lunch. We were very disappointed that it wasn't offered, and that the main course from the pub menu I wanted wasn't available either. Real shame, because we were looking forward to treating ourselves and spending some money. The website doesn't accurately represent what was on offer. Ver carta

We spent two nights at The White Horse this past weekend. The B&B accommodation was good, not amazing but not bad either. The location is fantastic, the staff were wonderful, and the food (2 dinners and 2 breakfasts) was absolutely fantastic. The menus were superb, the food was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. They also had a unique and thoughtful selection of wines. The atmosphere was great overall. Highly recommended!

Stayed at the White Horse for just one night. Small country pub with a few rooms in another building at the back, hardly a Hotel. Staff were ok, well the only one we saw Was a young man who worked behind the bar in the evening showed us to our room and then served our breakfast in the morning. We stayed in room number four, very small with a very very small so called double bed. This should be only used for single travelers, not couples.

We had a great Sunday roast for four adults. The shared roast platter for two was unique and tasty, although the carrots were a bit hard. The child's meal was not as child-friendly, so my child ended up choosing pizza instead of the off-menu pasta. The pizza was not to her liking due to the fresh tomatoes, but the chips were tasty. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff was friendly. I believe they could benefit from advertising more, as the experience was worth recommending to others. Ver carta

Stayed for 3 nights. Very central for the sights we wanted Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury cathedral, Mompesson house. Our room (No.2) was rather small the shower room even smaller but it was all very clean, very quiet, comfy bed good choice of tea bags, coffee etc. Slight niggle that these weren't replenished as we used them (but I suppose we could have asked). The staff were all friendly efficient. We had breakfast each morning dinner on two evenings all the food was absolutely excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Venturing in on a brisk autumn Sunday for lunch with my family I was excited at the prospect of a tasty wholesome roast platter to share. I sat for 20 minutes invisible to the front of house staff while they struggled to take our orders. We then had to order our drinks at the bar. Instructions were unclear. It would appear the do it yourself front of house service continued into the kitchen as the Partridge was served looking like it had been sat in the autumn sun for 30 minutes. After cutting it open and informing the waiter I was informed this was appropriate as it’s a gamey bird, and ok to eat. Although I appreciate it’s a gamy bird, we were served raw fleshy meat.. I love pink meat, but...

"We stayed here ten years ago and thought it was wonderful and worth every penny. We were so excited to return, but really Disapointed. The grounds are lovely and we were pleased with our room. The children loved the outdoor space and the pool What really let us down was the food and service. There was no luxury here. The family dining choices were poor. The children's meal was bad one had fish gougons and sweet potato fries which were very salty. The other two had pizza, the small was served as half a pizza, the large was a conventional round shape. Both were shop bought bases (cardboard) with grated Cheddar on the top. Something I would not feed them at home let alone expect in a supposedly high end dining. My husband's steak was chewy. My main, whole plaice with creamed potatoes, the potato was served in a ceramic dish and it was cold. It was taken away and then took ten minutes to return by which point I had eaten the fish. The food was incredibly expensive considering how poor the offerings were. The next day we ate a very late lunch in Bath so we would not have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast buffet area had some nice items but was really understocked and allowed to run to empty. The staff functioned but not at a steady rate, we found the service slow and the staff disinterested. Such a contrast to our previous visit. The person in charge we found sullen and felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. When we walked through to the dining areas we would hop out of the staff'so way for fear of being bulldozed. When we left the receptionist was polite but did not ask if we enjoyed our stay. A week later I had an email to complete a survey and nobody got in touch despite the same feedback as given here. Very dispointing. Lovely room and surroundings but poor food and poor attitude from staff. Last year we stayed in a hotel that cost 65% less than Wooley Grange and had a much better experience."
