"Visited for the first time with a large party of friends 10 in total 2starters never appeared even although staff advised but didn't seem to care. Same with 2mains. Others in the party split theirs to feed the ones missing food again staff not interested. Asked for manager who turned out to be one of the owners her attitude was highly unprofessional and reluctant to resolve the issues to our satisfaction. We were given a free round of lemoncello Yuck! Eventually after much discussion bill was discounted and rightly so. Our dining experience was ruined, not customers fault that they had staffing issues. Our friends are local and have already had 2 bad experiences with food here but thought third time lucky how wrong can you be! Our advise to the owners if you can't take the heat then stay out of the kitchen or get on a customer services course ASAP and seriously work on your attitude towards customers with valid complaints! This is definitely one kitchen we will Never visit again especially as there are so many fabulous restaurants run by true professionals offering amazing food and exemplary customer service all around this area. Definitely one to avoid!"

Amazing! The food was excellent, the menu had a great selection, the staff were fabulous, and the prices were reasonable. We can't wait to come back soon since the restaurant is conveniently located near us.

Popped in for a takeaway pizza after work. Was absolutely fantastic. While I wasn't having a sit down meal, I will do next time, as it looked lovely inside, I love Italian food, and I really hope that this business does well as it is right on our door step.

After tagging along with another couple on Saturday, we were back again on Thursday! Staff very friendly, food delicious and really pleasant atmosphere all round. Delighted to see it was as busy tonight as it was at the weekend and so nice to finally have somewhere decent to go for a good meal in the local area. I wish this place every success as it thoroughly deserves it. Ver carta

This venue has been under multiple owners in last 20 years none have made it do our first visit yesterday was sceptical! We were very impressed !! Very stylish but relsxed surroundings , simple menu and wine choice and excellent Italian family fare. Service professional, friendly and helpful And really good value. Great to have somewhere as good as this in this area . We expect to be regulars !

Stopped on spec and they were not actually open for another half hour but we were invited in anyway. We had intended just to have a quick coffee but the menu looked so good we decided to order. We actually ordered a selection of starters and they were delicious, reasonably priced and well presented. If you add to that the friendly welcome and good service all I can say is it's a gem well worth visiting

We celebrated a birthday on a weeknight at this restaurant. The staff greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome, seating us next to the wood burner. We had booked in advance, so they were aware of the reason for our visit. The starters were delicious, the main courses (a pizza and a steak) were served promptly and in generous portions. The chef even took our son into the kitchen and taught him how to make pizza, allowing him to make one for a member of the staff. It was a lovely experience overall and we would definitely recommend this restaurant. Ver carta

Visited tonight with family. Didn't book as last minute decision hadn't realised it was Italian now. On arriving we were advised by the chef that we may have a wait as they were understaffed however our food came very quickly. We had olives, drinks arancini balls to share. The wine was lovely. Three different pizzas a calzone. Large portions, delicious authentic pizza. Only problem we had was we ordered focaccia that didn't arrive but we didn't mention as enough food not charged for it. One of the pizza orders was wrong but rectified straight away. Considering they have just opened short staffed this was minor. Overall amazing food, fair prices, beautiful location good atmosphere. Will be ba...

My family of four, including our dog, had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. Despite not having a reservation, we were warmly welcomed and given the option of dining indoors or outdoors. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the breathtaking views of Louden Hill. The waitress was very helpful in explaining the specials and menu items. I ordered the Haggis Bon Bon's, Sirloin Steak, and Sticky Toffee Pudding, all of which were delicious. My wife also enjoyed the Haggis Bon Bon's, with a sauce substitute offered to accommodate her preferences. The steak was cooked perfectly and came with a selection of sauces. The sticky toffee pudding was a standout dessert, and we also enjoyed other...

"Visited using an Itison voucher for steak surf turf. Decided to have soup for starters which was advertised as being served with freshly baked bread. The soup was served in a very small bowl and was tasteless. The bread was anything but fresh and felt and tasted like it had been lying in the back of a cupboard for a fortnight. Now for the steak. We asked for sirloin but was told there was none left and we would have to take ribeye. The steak arrived and one look put us off. This was certainly not ribeye and was more like some sort of reconstituted beef. I would have to say that it is the worst steak we’ve ever been served. The surf part was 3 sad looking small prawns that had been placed on top of the steak. The owner asked us how it was and we told him how dissatisfied and disappointed we were. To this comment he then became quite aggressive and told us to leave. He obviously doesn’t like criticism. We had our meal on a Saturday night and we’re the only people in the restaurant. Surely this must tell you something. We had booked the dining room but was told it was closed due to lack of clientele and that we would have to sit in the bar. We had been regular visitors and know that they recently lost their head chef who was very good. The food is now very substandard and nothing like the delicious food that was served by the previous chef. Come on Sorn…you need to do much better!!"

"On holiday in the area and found this place online for somewhere to eat. Menu looked great. Arrived and the impression we got with the mess around the building continued indoors. Lady who took us to our table was lovely but then it went downhill again quickly when we were given the menu definitely not what it was online). It was litterly falling apart and only a fraction of what was on the online menu. We ordered food and while waiting 2 women with 5 children came in. Noise from the children was heard as soon as they got to the front door. I don't believe any of the children were at fault as the women didn't try to get them to be just a little quieter they both just shouted louder to hear each other. Both my teenage daughter and I expected the waitress to ask them to maybe just turn the volume down just a little but it turned out she knew them and like the mums she just shouted louder to be heard! Food arrived hot. Steak pie was very tasty but pizza was the kind I can buy in supermarket for about 50p. Desserts of cheesecake and sticky toffe pudding both tasted odd. We didn't eat them and just left to get away from the noise. I totally understand the staff can't dictate who frequents their establishment but they could ask rowdy customers to lower the volume instead of shouting over them. Food was nothing to shout about and we left wishing we had just stopped at the local chip shop instead"

"As we were staying at the Dumfries House Lodge for a couple of nights we took the opportunity to visit the Library Restaurant which is a short stroll away from the guesthouse in Dumfries House itself. Little did we know as we approached the magnificent Robert Adam building in it’s glory on a bright and peaceful evening that we were about to have a private dining experience! By absolute chance there were no other reservations that evening and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Despite my attempt to convince my wife that I had paid a fortune for the privilege I don’t think she was entirely taken in for more than a few seconds. We understand that the following night was fully booked. The setting is quite unique as you are led from the visitors entrance through to the library which had a cosy atmosphere with a log fire burning, the grand mantelpiece surround, the comfortable settee, subtle lighting and a small bar. With our bottle of NZ Pinot Noir ordered and a glass poured we were able to browse the menu in comfort. There were five options for each course and all reasonably priced from starters at £6 £7, mains £12 £22 (steak) and dessert at £5 or cheese for £7. The young waiter, who was attentive but discrete throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. The dining area itself beyond was lined with book shelves and ten or so tables stylishly set with good spacing between although in the circumstances there were no issues with other diners! For starters my wife had Goats cheese with red onion and tomatoes whilst I opted for the Confit Duck Pie with duck scratching and salad. The duck was served in a ramekin style dish topped with mashed potato which was a surprise although the duck was tasty, as was my wife’s goats cheese. Mains for my wife was Chicken Ballantine stuffed with Shitaki served with parmesan gnocchi and spinach which she enjoyed. I had monkfish in butter, served with puy lentils, artichoke puree and herb sauce. The fish was delicious however puy lentils may be an acquired taste which I unfortunately haven’t acquired a taste for as yet and there were quite a lot of them! Dessert consisted of Lemon amoretti cheesecake with a berry compote for my wife and White chocolate panna cotta and a doughnut with an apple sauce for myself. My wife thought the berry compote drowned the other flavours and I thought my dish was just ok. Full marks for the setting, food presentation, service and pricing (our bill including wine was £85 ex tip) but we were slightly disappointed with the flavours of some of the food overall in comparison to our previous meal on the estate at the former Stables Restaurant. At time of our recent visit the restaurant was only open Thursday to Sunday. It is a possibility that in future this restaurant may only be available for private functions, with another being opened within the hospitality centre so we were glad in the meantime to have dined in the House in such exclusive circumstances. Sadly we were escorted off the premises!"
