"We wanted a quality restaurant for our last night in Biarritz and Restaurant Leonie delivered perfectly. My wife and I were on holiday with our two daughters aged 9 and 11 who are at the "fussy eater" stage. This ruled out the two Michelin Star restaurants in Biarritz, but Restaurant Leonie is Michelin rated and a bit more informal. The outcome was great. The kids were offered a choice of simple fish and chips or meat and chips, but in both cases the quality was top draw and the they ate it all up.My wife had Croustillants de gambas, guacamole, émulsion piquillos as a starter followed by Filet de truite de Banka à l’unilatéral, pesto rouge/vert, fine purée haricots coco et légumes croquants - both from the gourmand menu and both excellent. I had a starter from the Plat du Jour menu, followed by fish from the market. For deserts I had cheese, and my partner had Barre chocolatée, noisette, caramel, glace noisette. The quality and presentation of all dishes were first class. The wine list was short but well appointed. We had glasses of Brut Nature Drappier Pinot Noir Zéro Dosage as aperitifs and a bottle of excellent dry rose from the region. The decor was contemporary modern and besides us there were other diners including another family group. The patron was attentive, with good informal service. All in all, good value and a nice alternative to the more expensive and lesser quality options closer to the beach."

"This place is an amazing concept and a beautiful idea- home made sauces, fresh produce with customised tacos, burgers and salads. My boyfriend and I were so excited to try the menu, aware our French is limited but doing our best with it, we met...a frosty reception where the guy taking our order (an owner) began sighing and rolling his eyes despite us politely asking for a table and making our order which was done by filling out a form. No problem really, we understand adjusting to limited French/English can be irritating. He brings our tacos out, slams them on the table and again, we kind of thought “amazing tacos, bad customer service, we’ll take it.” Midway through eating, mine were veggie steak (which were amazing to be fair) and he had ceviche however turns out his tacos didn’t have any ceviche in them. Again, no problem, this happens BUT when we are the only two customers ordering at that time, filling out a form personally, it’s a bit strange. A big mistake such as leaving out the main ingredient and having someone scowling at you the whole time somehow becomes less forgiving. I told the owner and he comes out to investigate, looking at the taco and then asking my boyfriend if he knew what ceviche was (patronising anyway when he’s ordered, but he’s a career chef who has prepared ceviche tacos himself...even then a lot of people know what it is). The chef forgot we were told, the tacos were free and no replacement offered or any apology. I think the main thing is personally, my food was delicious and as ordered but I felt so uncomfortable as a paying customer that in the middle of the meal I couldn’t enjoy it for what it was. So if you don’t want customers in your restaurant for whatever reason maybe don’t seat them passive aggressively and let them move on, I would have preferred so. And if you pride yourself on how everything is home made and fresh, that’s great but put the main ingredient in the taco also because, that’s pretty essential."

"As someone in the tourism industry in France, I am appalled at the poor service we experienced from the host this evening. After being denied a table last night because of a lack of reservation, we made it a point to book one online pm the next day before going to bed. We even arrived about minutes early to guarantee us a table on the terrasse to watch the sun set over the grande plage. I politely informed the maître d’ (who was clearly setting up tables for the dinner service) that we were here for our reservation, only to be curtly told that we needed to return at pm sharp. No explanation. No offer to sit us and serve us drinks, while we wait for the staff to complete their set-up. Just a “go away”. We ended up sitting down a few tables down (where cocktails were still being served), and a waiter kindly offered to take our drink order. While I realize that this is the VERY busy season (and staff are understandably rushing around), there is little need for service industry people to treat potential customers with anything less than their full undivided attention and expected courtesy. No need to reinforce the often overstated belief that French people are simply rude and unwelcoming to tourists... Kudos to the rest of the staff for making up for the very poor start to our last evening in Biarritz !!! Just my cents, from the viewpoint of another service industry worker trying to spend his hard-earned money while on our first true vacation so far this year"
