"Just back from another trip to brighton with my NHS colleagues and 5 friends, four of us chose to go to the “cabaret show” with 3 course dinner as we all felt it would be a great start to our Saturday night and as the venue was open to public around 9pm the others would meet us for drinks after the show had finished. All sounds great? NO! was the worst night out ever! The evening started well with the starters then went down hill after that. Now, I know some “chefs” are a bit “touchy”about how long a steak should be cooked, we paid for ours to cooked how we wanted it, we didn’t want it red and that is what we got, this was all sorted out with the lovely staff serving our table. We said the starter was fine we didn’t want a replacement and everything was ok, we were offered a round of drinks and accepted 2 drinks as the others still had one each. As soon as the show started the host told all the room that that table over there (pointing to us) have complained about the food! She advised us in future to order a burger! Which was quite ironic that one of my friends had ordered a chicken burger and got a beef burger! She continued to quite frankly insult us (all on the microphone) which wasn’t in good humour. We decided to pay bar bill and leave, my friend was accosted at the bar by the host who was very hostile towards her, my friend had to keep asking her to step back. The host told my friend this was brighton! And to finish off all the insults from her we were called A s on the way out to the rest of the bar over the microphone! Well, we have been to brighton numerous times and never encountered behaviour like this. I’m unsure if the only “humour” this person has is insulting people who were out to have a nice night and call it “cabaret” and “Brighton” she needs to look past herself as we all know this is the lowest form of wit. We will return to brighton but will avoid this place. Don’t think by this review we don’t have a sense of humour, believe me we do! If you want to be insulted by this “host” to a degree where you have paid for a meal and a show and have no option but to leave after the first act then this is the night out for you!!"

"Have been here a few times and been consistently impressed by the place. The staff are commendably friendly and efficient and the food and drink are varied and consistently good. Most recently we visited for my friends birthday. One thing I love is how versatile this place is- I’ve been here for lunch, I’ve been here for a night out and it excels at both. They have an extensive drink menu and we ordered some interesting cocktails of their own design that were very tasty, I also ordered from their more classic selection of cocktails and opted for an old fashioned a little later in the evening- it was perhaps a tad sweet for my tastes but that is purely personal preference. They also have a good list of beer and wine if you’re more in to that. I was always dubious visiting here as a vegetarian since the word meat is literally in the title, but the veggie options here are varied and sublime. I started with an order of fried pickles, which I admit are an acquired taste, but they were delicious and they pair excellently with a beer. The cheese and onion loaded fries were great as well- a good amount of toppings: gooey cheese, pickled and crispy onions, and fries that still managed to be crispy underneath. The garlic mushroom burger was out of good world. I’ve been to restaurants and audibly heard the chef scoff at having to cook a mushroom burger, but this is no joke. Garlicky, umami and delicious. Genuinely one of- if not the- best burger I have ever had. I could not recommend it more strongly. Overall the food is well presented, fairly reasonably priced and incredibly tasty and the service is efficient without being officious- the staff are both chatty and attentive. We will definitely be back."
