"Harry RAMSDEN’S Brighton The great thing about TA is that if negative reviews mention the same issues year after year then it’s obvious the owner or management doesn’t care. Such it is with Brighton HR. I went there today for lunch. But the prices were astronomical, and reading many reviews here the quality was low so far as causing sickness. So I thought maybe a take away might be cheaper. But the first challenge were the steps up to the serving area. With no railings I just about got up them. However there was no one taking orders in the serving area, and the warming cabinets were empty. OK I thought at least mine will be cooked fresh. Another customer then arrived and asked if I had ordered yet. No I said, there’s no one here. Ah he said, you have to order first at the entrance on the wall mounted computer system. He pointed down the stairs that I had just struggled up. Don’t they take cash I said? No contactless card only. And no cash. But don’t I get to see what I’m ordering first? Nope was his reply. I really didn’t want to struggle down the stairs to order from a faceless computer screen, and then struggle back up. So I made a snap decision obviously HR had gone rogue with a take it or leave it policy. So I left as best I could. Then I caught a 27 bus to Saltdean where there is an amazing Chinese owned fish and chippy, serving fresh caught fish at half the price of HR and of infinitely better quality."

"I was in this place months ago, for a birthday, and that was such a pleasure to know that a pub can offer a proper raclette, as a French from Savoie, I need a good raclette in my life. So I came, in the middle of January, windy cold weather to try out the famous raclette, I was quite disappointed by the noice I should say, it 's way more too noisy to enjoy such a perfect dish as a raclette. Believe me. Anyway, I could speak in French as I know there is a French waitress but let 's speak in English. I was happy to take a raclette with 4cheeses. So obviously, we 've waited a long time, half an hour I should say but it 's fine, because we 've had preparations, starters and bread (the perfect way to seduce a French, la baguette of course). And now, here is the raclette!... I was quite sad, my and my partner, and Savoyards que nous sommes, because there wasn 't a lot of 'tatoes, so sad! Plus, there isn 't any cheese as well. Even if the price if chip, £15 for one person, I was quite surprised of quantities. Anyway, that was such a pleasure, even if there is bacon with the raclette, which is not a part of it but anyway, English class! I should say that the little gougeres was nice, but useless. It 's nothing but a puffed cabbage. I would love to come back, I would ask for more potatoes for sure! Plus, the price is absolutely perfect for what is served! Romain."

"Just back from another trip to brighton with my NHS colleagues and 5 friends, four of us chose to go to the “cabaret show” with 3 course dinner as we all felt it would be a great start to our Saturday night and as the venue was open to public around 9pm the others would meet us for drinks after the show had finished. All sounds great? NO! was the worst night out ever! The evening started well with the starters then went down hill after that. Now, I know some “chefs” are a bit “touchy”about how long a steak should be cooked, we paid for ours to cooked how we wanted it, we didn’t want it red and that is what we got, this was all sorted out with the lovely staff serving our table. We said the starter was fine we didn’t want a replacement and everything was ok, we were offered a round of drinks and accepted 2 drinks as the others still had one each. As soon as the show started the host told all the room that that table over there (pointing to us) have complained about the food! She advised us in future to order a burger! Which was quite ironic that one of my friends had ordered a chicken burger and got a beef burger! She continued to quite frankly insult us (all on the microphone) which wasn’t in good humour. We decided to pay bar bill and leave, my friend was accosted at the bar by the host who was very hostile towards her, my friend had to keep asking her to step back. The host told my friend this was brighton! And to finish off all the insults from her we were called A s on the way out to the rest of the bar over the microphone! Well, we have been to brighton numerous times and never encountered behaviour like this. I’m unsure if the only “humour” this person has is insulting people who were out to have a nice night and call it “cabaret” and “Brighton” she needs to look past herself as we all know this is the lowest form of wit. We will return to brighton but will avoid this place. Don’t think by this review we don’t have a sense of humour, believe me we do! If you want to be insulted by this “host” to a degree where you have paid for a meal and a show and have no option but to leave after the first act then this is the night out for you!!"

"Visited today for ‘Brunch’. Ex US resident so always up for a decent American experience. Diner was half full and admitted straight away. The theming of the diner is excellent, maybe trying a little too hard, but in a fun way. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food this is where things fall down a little. After order we had to wait 35moms for it to arrive. A long time. Had they been packed that might have been acceptable, but half full it was too long. I ordered Cowboy pancakes which promised a ‘stack’ of pancakes but needed up being 3, with 5 blueberries, the smallest pot of maple syrup I’ve seen and a couple of rashers of bacon. The pancakes were not fresh made I suspect they are store bought? It was tasty but just not as good as it should have been. Overall not a great ‘American’ breakfast. Also had a smoothies which was fine but not worth £5.50. Partner had a cooked breakfast which was a little better, but had the bottomless coffee which actually became a little annoying as it meant stopping the waitress every 10 mins to get a refill. Either they need to give you a pot of coffee from the start or make sure they are coming around every 5 mins to refill. Certainly in any American diner in the US, you wouldn’t have to be asking for constant refills. Overall price was £30 which is an OK price for 2 people. However I also feel it should have been better food. Would only return in certain circumstances."

"recently had a quick lunch on a weekday here and they were very short staff, only two employees looked neigent to all the tables and it is a deceptively large place so that they rushed around a crowd. as such they were very briefly tempered and even. cloged pots of measurable and forked as we insulted them by showing them. drink order was only the beginning of the bad service. most of our drinks were wrong, no explanation why. the majority of us ordered soft drinks, the flat tasted and a little watered. the food lasted long until it came and when it did, but again more of what we had ordered was missing or replaced. my hummus meal with focaccia brot and oliven came without the focaccia brot and after waiting 15 minutes for this I was then greeted with this frozen style baguette brot that I would have bought from any super market. the lack of communication was during a moderately busy lunchtime. I thought they might not have opened this day or at least restricted services. even if they don't have to eat to complete the order, they just say people. it was all the more than the food drink changed slightly. when we waited for food, we heard that people complain and receive a refund to be ignored in principle and others are waiting too long. Even when we were just paying, card in the hand and card machine in waiter hand, we were told to wait as she was “in the middle of something.”while it amuses me, it felt only a very chaotic way to deal with us. I'm sure we were just unhappy and came on a bad day, but after a great day before in brighton this really spent a great speed bump in our trip. very disappointed and advised to go here."
