"Terrible Experience! From uncomfortable chairs and cramped tables, faulty toilet (no proper hand washing in gents- tap taped up in plastic bag) to really poor food- tough chewy pizza and chopped iceberg lettuce with unfresh tomato (described as fresh tomato/cucumber etc on a bed of lettuce) we thought it couldn't get worse. Apparently because we raised the food issues with his son (who was immediately defensive and irritatingly condescending) the owner ran after us outside and shouted at me across my wife in a face to face angry confrontation. Quite unbelievable behaviour from a family run restaurant who clearly have no customer focus and cannot handle any reasonable feedback or questioning of their produce. Avoid!!!"

"I've been a customer on and off for 10 years. Last night, I went through the process of placing an order over the phone, to be told they don't take cards (the place has always favoured cash, but I didn't realise it had stopped cards entirely). I asked to cancel, as I didn't have the cash. The team then tried to deliver the food I asked to cancel and I ended up being (effectively) called a liar and barred by the manager, who said it was my fault (he did say that) and insisted we'd discussed amount and delivery time, which at best was a one-way conversation as I'd ended the call by that point. This has been terrible customer service and I expect people to admit when they've made a mistake. Everyone does, I understand that. This was a classic case of miscommunication. My issue is how that was dealt with. I'd ordered food from elsewhere; why would I have done that if I expected India Lodge to fulfil the order? I guess I won't be ordering again as that hand has been forced by the manager. Very disappointed."

"What a lovely place to find on a Sunday afternoon. ....on our wedding anniversary too. We were made to feel so welcome, having a tour of all the rooms and beautiful courtyard and gardens. The cheese platter was delicious and the Colston Bassett Stilton was exceptional .... Wouldn't expect anything else as it's made in Nottinghamshire"

"We have been regulars to the mevan since it opened in Leighton and when lockdown happened we missed our favourite Turkish restaurant, as we had many family parties there and we were always treated like royalty by the owners.Then we see that if was being refurbished and found out it was under new ownership we couldn’t wait to see and see if the food was still amazing and hoping to see if the old staff had been retained.We were not disappointed, great refurb and as we walked in there was a new greeter and then the old manager came and gave us a big hug and the best barman in town was still there.We were sat down and it was like we were at home with complimentary shot and nothing was a problem.It was was great to see the restaurant packed and atmosphere great and being treated the same by the new and old staff. The menu had changed slightly and prices had been increased, but this would be expected but the service and food was still amazing if not better.Fully recommend the new look food and restaurant And Alex is the best shot maker and the staff are awesome.See you soon guys and ladies."

"My family and I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. Despite ordering chicken momo, we received chicken wraps instead. When I inquired about the difference, the waiter confidently claimed it was a unique style of chicken momo they do in Bangladesh. Though surprised, I chose not to make a fuss. Later, I discovered the waiter had either lied or was uninformed about the menu. Their online menu reflects different on their website too. This lack of transparency left us feeling scammed, and I would not recommend this restaurant due to the dishonesty in their service."

"Edited Review: Although previously enjoying the atmosphere and food at The Hide and visiting on numerous occasions, the last two visits have been disappointing due to an unfriendly member of staff. The first occasion was when I visited for breakfast with friends and I felt that the server was irritated by me and was hurrying me to make a breakfast selection, even though I had not had a chance to look at the menu. This resulted in the server suggesting I should pick a particular dish, which I felt pressured to do, even though it is not a dish I would usually select. Me and my group of friends felt it was an uncomfortable situation and that the lady was a little unfair to me. On the latest visit, I arrived with two friends during the afternoon, hoping to enjoy some drinks and the same member of staff hurried out of the doors as we walked up towards the entrance. Without barely giving us a chance to say hello, the lady asked if we had booked and when we said we had not, she loudly and abruptly told us that if we had not booked, then there was no availability for us. We were taken by surprise at the hostile and unwelcome attitude of the lady. We felt embarrassed because the server ensured to turn us away in a manner so that other customers could obviously hear and see this and I noticed a number of guests stopping their conversations to stare at us. It is odd as previously I had read on social media that walk-ins at The Hide are accepted and I had never had this issue before when I haven't booked in advance. Such a shame as I have previously really enjoyed visits but would feel very apprehensive about visiting again as clearly I am not welcome."

"My work colleagues and I were staying In Biggleswade and needed to eat. We randomly arrived here to find the take away open but restaurant in darkness. There was a sign saying restaurant open turns out they were keeping by lights off to save money/and arguably the planet. Unorthodox and potentially not a great sign. Anyways the take away was busy (good sign) they turned the lights, placed a fan heater near the table and we sat down (with a couple of question marks in our minds). Turned out the guy was incredibly attentive and lovely, the food was lovely (and lots of it) and the whole experience was lovely. So what can I say about the Jade Garden except it was, yep, you got it…….. lovely"

"Be prepared to be called a liar by a chap called Rory! I hope he has kept the cam footage to show you Food delivered not hot but warm but my grandchild’s beans where stone cold I mean like out the fridge uncooked cold I took them back because they don’t do check backs here , to be informed by Rory that the food was steaming when he bought it out ! I explained it was not and with a 5 yr child we checked but he carried on to insist it was steaming hot . I did not like being called a liar he had no right to do that. A manger came to apologise I also showed him my uneaten cold food which he offered to recook but I just wanted to leave as was upset and our children needed to go to bed no refund was offered just a please don’t complain plea . I’m done with this Weatherspoon now I know it’s cheap food but it has to be edible and I’m not being spoken to by this rude person who just wanted to argue with me"

"I recently came here with some friends and our babies and small children for lunch. it's not the first time I was here, but it was the first time with the baby. the coworkers that there are all very pleasant only unfortunately I feel. there is only not enough of them that leads to a Scottish service and long delays! also I felt that the cleansing of baby high chairs and dressing area was very below the point! I had to clean the high chairs myself and both were covered with black dust/dart. a little dust or food would be expected or accepted in a busy service, but that is not acceptable. the baby changer was also covered with thick dust and obviously this is not cleaned regularly. to the luck I had my own tettol spray and cloths. Despite several commentary about delays on hot drinks and can ask them to be served first, it took about mins plus for them to arrive and mins for our lunch. drinks are a profit margin, so I don't understand why this is still a running problem and management, not on board all commentaries. eating was very nice when it arrived and again the staff nice, but due to the long delays, and lack of communication and about cleaning questions. we will not come back until we know standards really change and more employees!"

"I booked a table at this pub which we passed a lot of times and decided we must try as it looks very inviting! I booked a table of 6 outside due to our lovely weather for 7pm. We arrived and our table was ready but as we sat down after a short while we realised it started becoming chilly. I went to see the waiter (Matt I think) see if we could seat inside who told me he pre-empted it and also got our table booked inside! That was very nice! We had the seafood platter sharer, brie wedges, garlic prawns, all served with prawn cocktail dip and home made fish pate and sliced bread. All lovely and freshly made. Then I had rump steak of the day rare which was perfectly cooked, it came with triple cooked chips, grilled tomato, a mushroom and I had a side of onion rings, they were huge! It was all freshly made which was so nice. Husband had steak and suet pudding with nice steak lumps in it. My friends had a guinea burger and the daily special of liver. All in all the meal with lovely, freshly made although a tad slow at times due to the fact that there are only 2 people serving and doing the bar also. I congratulated the chef Josh when I spotted him when we paid our bill on such a lovely meal. My only small gripe is that when we asked for a rose blush wine which they didn't have, Matt said he had a rose of provence and we said yes to that thinking it would be reasonably priced. We found out on the bill that the bottle is £30 and we had 2. I personally think he should have given is the wine list instead of selling us probably his most expensive rose on the wine list. Cheeky."

"Ate here for the first time last night since under new management. Simply superb with respect to food quality, customer service, knowledge, flexibility etc. Amongst us we had the ribs, haddock, pork shoulder and child's chicken. Jake was super attentive and excellent value for money! Definitely recommend and we will be regulars now considering it's in walking distance. Too good to miss."

"Our experience at the hotel where the restaurant was located was just as disappointing. The receptionist had described our room as "quirky," but we soon realized that meant the floor was collapsing on one side of the bed, uneven on the other, and there wasn't enough space to move around easily. Additionally, there were two deep steps leading to the en-suite bathroom, which were difficult to navigate, especially in the middle of the night. Overall, our experience at the restaurant and hotel was unacceptable and we will not be visiting again."

"visited the star at chalton for an early dinner before he traveled back to dorset. four of us and we were all very pleasantly surprised by the standard of food. all meals were cooked to perfection, including a burger meal, jäger huhn, a rump steak and my risotto with lachs as a supplement.It was the best cooked salmon I have received in any restaurant, including fine restaurants.well finished cooking!. the restaurant was understated, but the waitress held us over timings and is amazing everything was so perfect. highly recommended."

"We went to this pub for an evening meal. The TV was on and competing for attention with the multiple speakers which were blaring out disco music, even in the loos.The staff were friendly and turned off the speaker right above our table when we said we could not hear each other talking. I think this might be a nice pub if you are part of the local youth and just above legal drinking age but it is not a good place to eat dinner. The food was poor to low quality and all seemed frozen and tasteless. I had prawns for a starter. 5 tasteless frozen prawns in a tasteless batter for over £7 very disappointing. Why don't you get some fresh prawns and make some batter rather than serving the cheapest frozen prawns and then the price might be justifiable. Main courses were not very interesting, burger, pub pizza, etc. I went for the mixed grill. Sadly that was another disappointment. It was basically what you would get at a greasy spoon cafe but with an £18 price tag. Two cheap frozen sausages, two rashers of bacon, a small spoon full of watery mushrooms, a cheap tomato, some frozen chips, a fried egg, a thin slice of black pudding and half of very tough and gristle filled steak. Every mouthful of the steak had tough sinew woven through it and needed spitting out as it was impossible to chew. The plastic bottle of Happy Shoppers ketchup with the £1 price label was an indication of their quality concerns. In summery, this is a local lads pub and probably fine for a pint but do not waste your time or money coming here for food. If they spent a fraction more on the ingredients or tried getting some fresh vegetables and doing some proper cooking with a little more effort on preparation they might get more people eating here, We were the only people eating on a Friday evening. £80 bill for three of us which included 1 pint of bitter and two halves of larger, 3 starters and 3 main courses. That was it. We didn't have deserts as they had already proved they were not capable of preparing food. There are 2 Indian restraints, an Italian, a kebab shop, another pub across the road, a brasserie, a pancake place and a Chinese take away are all within two minutes walk and are all worth walking to rather that eating here. There is also an excellent Thai restaurant in Aspley Guise called the Blue Orchid which is the next village about a mile or two away. Sorry Fir Tree pub, we won't be back. I will give 2 stars as the staff were friendly other wise it would have been 1 star only. . ."

"NEVER AGAIN!! I telephoned the previous day to confirm that they were serving lunches on Monday, and received an affirmative reply. When we arrived with our guests from New Zealand 6 people in total) we found the dining area in total dis-array following a wedding party over the weekend., and no tables either set or arranged for dining. Furniture was swiftly rearranged for us and our drinks order taken. We then waited and waited for the drinks to arrive. Eventually they were served and our food orders taken, and this followed by a delay so long we were contemplating leaving the venue. It transpires that the landlord had not arranged for any kitchen staff as he did not anticipate they would be needed, and he was running the pub bar and the kitchen by himself. He had to make a phone call to get someone in to cook our lunch, which was eventually served in such a delayed manner that the first two persons had finished their meal while others were still waiting. The jacket potatoes were undercooked. A similar waiting and staggered serving was repeated in serving the sweet course, which is puzzling as it was basically only ice cream. NOT A PLACE TO VISIT TWICE."

"Been to Luton Hoo for Afternoon Tea before so was looking forward to visiting again but what a disappointment! Was greeted by a young girl, no smiles, just said hello, showed us to our table, left us for about 5 minutes asking us what tea would we like, I had to mention we had booked for sparkling wine afternoon tea, probably wouldn’t have got it otherwise so decided what tea to have, didn’t take long as not much of a selection then she went off. 10 minutes later a young lad came with a small plate each, 5 sandwiches on each plate, what happened to the tier plates you use to get them on? Anyway, the roasted beef sandwich was the only nice one, the other 4 were tasteless and now to have to pay £8.00 for a refill but before they use to be free! Shocking! If they were all nice I would have paid extra as I was still hungry! The tea wasn’t much either, sparkling wine was ok. We ordered another 2 pots of tea to go with our cakes, well they were even worse, 4 small, doughy scones, 2 plain, 2 with raisins and literally 2 raisins in them, you couldn’t make it up! Small pot of jam and cream, certainly not enough for two but couldn’t be bothered to ask for more, just wanted to get out. Passion fruit chocolate mouse was bitter, green tea choux, why?, pineapple and buttermilk tart was as dry as anything and Victoria sponge was coconut sponge, rotten. The whole experience was dreadful, use to be such a lovely, busy place but it was so quiet, staff don’t care! Anyway we decided to leave without getting our 2nd pots of tea, can’t believe it took so long! Service was terrible. Will not be back."

"We had an impromptu Saturday lunch with friends at this lovely old village pub. The risotto was delicious and plentiful, and our dog Charlie enjoyed a plain chicken breast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the plates were chipped, the table cloths had food remnants, and the women's toilet was a bit dirty. Despite this, the dessert was a big treat. I would come back again and try something different next time, hoping for better attention to cleaning and upkeep."

"Unfortunately, this restaurant review is a bit mixed. The staff were welcoming and the restaurant was beautifully decorated, but the food quality was disappointing. We were a party of 9, including 2 children, dining early in the evening for the Christmas menu. The sprouts and broccoli seemed to be frozen rather than fresh, and the 'roast potatoes' were boiled baby potatoes with skin on that lacked the crispy and fluffy texture of proper roast potatoes. The main roast meals were barely warm, although the burgers and chips were acceptable. Overall, the food could be much better to earn better ratings. Despite our disappointment, we didn't want to cause a scene as it was a special family meal, so we ate quickly and left when the kids started to get tired."

"We've been here many times and always receive top service. There's a lovely lady called Christine who quite often serves us and you couldn't ask for a better waitress. She serves you professionally and is great to have a natter with! A great selection of food and drinks also good value for money, especially when you have kids. Hat's off to Christine, she's been there 20 years and still giving it her all!"
