"As we were in Stranraer on a Saturday evening wanting food we decided to pop in here as from the outside it looked very nice appearances can be deceptive. There was only one other couple in the Restaurant on a Saturday evening this should have started the alarm bells ringing but we persevered. We were sat at a table for 2 even though there were lots of tables for 4 available, we asked three times to be moved but this was 'not possible as they were all booked ' this turned out to be utter rubbish as whilst we were eating at least two other couples arrived and were seated at a table for 4. The waiter (possibly the Manager) was very miserable and said they didnt serve Alcohol despite there being Wine Glasses on the Table which was acceptable. There was No Sparkling Water or Sugar Free Drinks were available either yet they brought a Diet Coke to another table. We ordered the food, the Onion Bhajis arrived and they were obviously bought in and not prepared on the premises. We asked for Bombay Chicken without the Boiled Egg on Top again this was 'not possible ', we still cant work out why !. The Garlic Naan was just a Plain Naan absolutely smothered in Easy Garlic. We asked for some Fresh Chillies to be put on top of the Chicken Tikka again 'not possible, we only have Chilli Paste ' an Indian Restaurant without Chillies ??? unheard of. Chicken Bhuna was very bland and tasteless as was the Pilau Rice. The Manager was very conveniently nowhere to be seen when we asked for the Bill. The Waitress asked if everything as ok and we had tell her of our huge disappointment, she actually said that there had been lots of complaints of late. Do yourselves a big favour if you are in Stranraer and avoid this place. When we left there were still tables for 4 vacant too, The biggest worry was there was NO Hand Drying facilities in the Gents surely in these times of Covid this is very dangerous as well as being unhygienic too"

"Went here today as I was wanting to find Rerrick Church and this beautiful place had been recommended to me so we thought we try it . The two ladies were lovely caring. Down to earth people who care about their customers. Two different dining rooms where we sat the was beautiful with all the local artists pictures for sale , cards etc and a massive big Anchor above our heads . Banana milkshake 5/5 or 10/10 perfect loved it Tea decent size teapot not some stupid little thing that’s looks great in a dolls house but not on a table tea was decent definitely good teabags 5/5 . Milk etc . Nice to see sugar yes proper grain sugar in a bowl on your table with its own wee spoon not these stupid packets 10/10 Fish and chip , mushy peas and salad Burger massive bid 6oz burger , coleslaw forgot coleslaw on fish , salad and crisps . To be absolutely honest we shared our meals but cleared both plated . Fish lovely , burger marvellous. Chips wife loves them I,m a chunky chip guy but I loved the crisps so nice . Salad and homemade coleslaw wife said was fabulous 10/10. Victoria Sponge first place I,ve found in Dumfries and Galloway that actually makes it right. Queen Victoria and our late Queen Elizabeth 2nd both had it with raspberry jam not strawberry jam . Happens I have a severe allergy just like our New King,s Wife Queen Consort Camila with having a severe strawberry allergy. So highlight for me was at last being able to have piece of Victoria Sponge mmmmmmm,m,m,m,mmmmmmm 20/20 homemade as well . So many takeout customers for cakes . Beautiful settings with The abbey straight across the road in Dundrennan . Price was fabulous I,m not making this up my wife was actually telling the lady price was to low she had added it up to more than she was charging but lady said nope it was this price then she rounded it down to save her change. What beautiful ladies definitely deserve a good review. Thank you . I promise not to message you at 1am asking if your open today and what hot food you have available I,ll just come as I,m coming back for the big breakfast. We never found rerrick church so we have to go back and start with lunch here at the Crown and Anchor Dundrennan"

"The café and shop is located just off the road between Dumfries and Dalbeattie and has plenty of onsite parking. Accessibility is good for those visitors who are less able. I’m a fairly regular visitor to Dumfries and have side-tracked for lunch a couple of times this year as the food and service is reliably good. Despite the café having a fairly large open plan area it has been busy on both occasions probably testimony to its popularity even in its rural location. On a solo visit earlier this year I shared a large table with a couple of ladies, with their agreement, as there were no other available indoor options and the weather wasn‘t great outside. On that occasion I had a smoked salmon open sandwich served with salad, a flat white coffee and a piece of carrot cake all of which were delicious and cost just over £14. On a more recent visit, accompanied by my wife, we both opted for their chicken and leek pie which was served with new potatoes and vegetables £8.95). Needless to say we had to have coffee and cake as the coffee is good and there is a tempting selection of cakes on display at the counter. My wife tried an unusual combination of Banana Chocolate Chip cake £2.80) and I had Orange cake £2.60) both of which were tasty. The menu covers breakfast and lunch items with the likes of porridge, cheese omelette and French Toast featuring on the former and soup, sandwiches, burgers, macaroni, homemade pies and quiche on the latter. There is not a large selection but personally I have always found something to suit. In my experience service is with a smile and items are brought to the table in a timely fashion. In better weather there is an option to eat outside in the grounds, a popular choice especially with those accompanied by their dogs as these are not permitted in the café itself. Toilets are clean and it is worth a browse around the shop which has a good selection of organic products. Easy to recommend."

"We were passing through the village on a meandering route to Gatehouse of Fleet and timed it nicely for some lunch. We parked a short walk away just off Whylie’s Brae at an official car park as the streets are narrow and spaces were at a premium elsewhere. The café is in a traditional cottage style building but has been modernised internally. There was outside seating available at the entrance, which would have been an attraction had it not been raining at the time of our visit. There were a number of visitors present, staff were friendly and there was therefore a pleasant ambiance. Despite the offer of specials, which included a homemade pasta dish of the day, we were looking for more of a snack. There were decent options in this regard and my wife ordered a Tuna Mayo Cheese Jacket Potato which was served with three different salad garnishes carrot sultanas; baby broad bean sundried tomato; and a house coleslaw £7.75). I ordered a soup sandwich combo Broccoli Stilton soup and Chicken with lemon mayo sandwiches £9.00). Service was very good and the fresh, tasty and quality produce made for an enjoyable lunch . We finished things off with an Americano and Flatwhite coffee £2.70 each) which brought our bill to just over £22 which we thought was good value. Tempting as the cakes looked, we resisted indulging to save our appetite for later. Toilets were well maintained. There are small gift options on display for purchase. Check opening times currently only on Friday Saturdays during winter months."

"we stayed at the holiday park castle cary and booked to go to the sunday dinner in the lairds inn. there were 10 of us so they recommended us to go to 4 o'clock to make sure we get a Sunday dinner if we wanted one. the pub. it itself is quite dark inside. we, where all sat together sat in a nice quiet back room that soon became full after our arrival. the staff was very nice and helpful. I could not believe how fast our food arrived we were expecting that at least 20 minutes wait, but we all had our meals within 10 minutes! eating was good and hot. the only thing I would go as a suggestion for the personal is that it would be better to serve children before all adults get their meal times, as some of the children get their meal not until last. we all enjoyed our meal and then ordered desserts. again, all came out very quickly from mine and my daughters, who forgot them and after mentioning that we, where still waiting they continue, dessert to serve the next table and most of my table had their of the time we got our. the sticky toffee pid was waiting tho worth it! we sat outside for a few drinks after the aswel, that was nice, his over the park, so the kids could play while we were there. my mama was told that they run from bacardi tho in all a good meal and would recommend. While I was at the bar, there was an iron woman who complained that she had waited for 20 minutes and it was too long so that she left where and did not pay. I got her. on Sunday evening in a full pub await at least half an hour waiting for an hour. Maybe she should have booked earlier!"
