"Outstanding service and extremely well organised pub set next to the Solent hotel and Lodge, this family, dog friendly pub is easy going with a basic small menu. The standout dish were the nachos, which were very generous. Our chicken and burger were a bit overdone and the brownie was ok, if they up their game on the mains and desserts, this would be 5 stars for all visitors. Very friendly and helpful staff and easy ordering system on app or staff by request especially useful for dietary requirements. Overall easy non fussy beautiful decor pub."

"My friend and I both ordered a toasted teacake which was presented to us just like a warm bun with a tiny bit toasted. We then saw a gentleman pass us with a properly toasted teacake. We asked the staff if they would toast ours a bit more and we were told that it was just how they come out of the packet. She refused to take our teacakes away and toast them a bit more. She told us that was how they come. What a load of old tosh!!!!! The attitude of the staff was completely unacceptable with a feeling of her saying I can 't be bothered, take it or leave it . She also had a very haughty attitude which is also unacceptable. I am disabled and my friend is temporarily disabled and we both felt like second hand citizens who don 't matter. Neither of us will be returning to the portchester shop. However, this experience is completely different to the 2 coffee shops on the Southsea promenade which belong to the same group. They are usually very much more helpful."

"The food I 'd give a 4 out of 5. Would have been a 5 out of 5, however, the wait for our dessert was over 20 minutes. When I book a meal I expect to be seated at a dining table with proper dining chairs, and there was only one dining table for four with proper dining chairs. The other tables were with easy chairs, bucket chairs, a settee, a soft arm chair and bar stools. Not ideal for eating a meal from. Whilst we were eating our meal a load of people came In and stood around our table which was rude, blocking the light out and their arses nearly on the dinner plates. They then eventually seated behind us on a long table (smaller tables put together). We then realised we were eating our meal amongst a funeral wake which was very uncomfortable. After finishing the main course I asked the bar lady if we could move to another area and she was quite abrupt. She said I reserved you a table down there and you didn 't sit at it . We said when we arrived we spoke to the barman and we told him that we 'd booked a quiet table under our name and he said 'you can sit anywhere, just not the long table . He never told us there was a wake coming in. The table that the bar lady told us that she had reserved us, we would not have sat at anyway because i do not enjoy eating a meal sitting on a settee in a main bar with TVs playing music. When I booked, I asked for a quiet area to have our meal because it was a joint birthday meal, sitting in the main bar was not quiet because that is where we moved to in the end to eat our dessert and to be honest none of us enjoyed it due to the arrangement, and the long wait which personally i believe was deliberate. The Delme states there is a function room so where is it then? If you are holding a wake or any special event then you should block that area off so that other paying diners are not amongst it."

"what a nice pub. brilliant friendly staff .food was amazing! we had two burgers menus..the who towers of stacked beautiful burgers. and beautiful extras. massive! and also had the crispy white bait and a few big crispy brautfries. and salat. amazingly good size brilliant eating. I'll get this place back to many. thanks to the staff for a good meal. also for the day manager mann. who gave our dog tasty and water. and had a good chat with us. nicer the commandant."

"Ordered on internet received at today, delivery at still waiting phoned and was told driver car had broken down would be minutes late, that was half an hour ago. Customer service doesn’t exist, tried to cancel and get my back but...he refused..........still waiting. Update phoned again was firstly told driver had left minutes ago, I told them to cancel it and refund me , he spoke to manager who said I can have a refund but had to go and collect my order!!! Driver just knocked on the door and I refused delivery. Will not use again, shame when the Sandhurst store was brilliant"

"Vastly improved from the period before the pandemic . Good range of meals at a sensible price particularly the set lunchtime options and now have some vegan choices too. Not the huge range of real ales from the distant past, but still able to buy a decent pint especially Mondays and Thursdays at £2.99 per pint! Friendly staff, too. November update:Just had a great lunch there today, and tried the mixed grill it was amazing! I wasn't expecting to be given so much good quality and well cooked meat! Have never had a better mixed grill anywhere!"

"First time we have been back to Lauros in a long time (we had a child and we were welcomed back like old friends. Food was superb. I have become vegan since our last visit, and Phoned to let Carol and Larry know this. When my husband and I arrived I was presented with a lovely three course menu, with two(!! choices for each course! Thanks again Carol and Larry. I promise that we will be back again very soon. Xxx"

"booked afternoon for a baby shower with friends for we came to ask if we want a drink, drinks came out and we asked the choice of sandwich fillings, from us did not want any fish fillings, we waited. until no one else came over, a waitress asked if we need to know that we are ready for our pre-booked afternoon tea and what is the situation with the sandwiches. she told us that the afternoon will not begin until I said I booked a few weeks ago and was not told that I also had a phone call to confirm a few days earlier. they asked to talk to manager who came over l and said that the cook was not happy to do us the afternoon now, but he wants to try, then it actually arrived? not sure what happened to the communication there. asked the manager if there is a chance to change the salmon sandwiches, and was quite rudely said that during the week they asked if there were any diet demands that we didn't even say, but maybe the cook could do a simple cheese sandwich! (we thought they were allergic, so maybe our bad as we should ask more about the nutritional requirements. we started to eat what was actually quite delicious, the little cakes were amazing, then we realized that we had no tea or coffee, so I asked the manager when it comes out, their answer was that they still ordered it? we were then left to our own devices, although the tee was refilled for us. I sincerely never complain about mealtimes, but we were all so excited to see each other and to be our mother, and it really has a damper on the afternoon for us, which was a real shame. it was just for the afternoon tee so not a bad price, but I'm sorry to say that the service was pants, we will not return."

"Myself and three friends thought we would stop and grab a bite to eat and have a few drinks before heading further afield. Everything seemed okay initially, the pub was quiet. The young staff seemed to be a bit moody but we had no issue getting served…until: After two of us had food and returned to our friends at the bar to order a round of drinks we were asked to leave, no explanation given…so off we went. This is the only pub I've ever been refused in, if we had been noisy or caused a disturbance etc fair enough. But we weren't. Just four guys catching up. After reading other reviews on here there seems to be a recurring pattern of staff with attitude and behaviour issues at this venue. So certainly will not be returning or recommending."

"The Bugle is a very old building which is sympathetically furnished and decorated. It’s always clean and staff are helpful and friendly. We wanted a light lunch, not a full meal. We decided on baguettes, my friend had chicken, roasted peppers, onion , I had steak, onion, blue cheese. They both came with salad and we ordered a basket of chips each too. The baguette was freshly baked, overflowing with the filling and very very tasty. Lovely fresh salad and beautifully cooked thick, proper crispy, fluffy chips. Yummy to say the least. Stuart, was very informative about his beers etc, knew his stuff and we had quite a chat about different things. Paddy the chef yesterday, was lovely too and we thanked him for the fabulous food we’d eaten. My friend couldn’t finish hers so Stuart took it away and it came back in a lovely little box for her to take home. I’ve been before Christmas and had the most delicious lasagne there too. We watched other meals being served, cos we’re nosey). And they all looked delicious. Looking forward to the next time. Keep up the good work Stuart. June Ashley x"

"Hate to be critical, as was warmly welcomed and all were very friendly. Unfortunately the cooked breakfast was average at best, bacon and sausage were not great quality and mushrooms watery. My egg was just a greasy mush which they swiftly replaced when I complained...but it should never have been brought out to me. What really was disappointing was the fact that they had put a cheaper brand of brown sauce in HP bottles. It makes you wonder what other shortcuts are being made and the freshness of their condiments...not good!"

"This restaurant is a hidden gem. Despite the rain forcing us to sit inside, the atmosphere was pleasant. The staff were friendly and accommodating, helping us find a table. The food was delicious; the olives were exceptional and the moussaka was creamy and flavorful. We also got a tasty rocky road cake to go, but I suspect it had peanuts in it. Overall, a successful dining experience and I look forward to visiting again. Highly recommended."

"Ordered food online to be delivered and called once I had ordered to confirm they had the order and would deliver. Ordered to arrive at 6:45 and called at 7:10 when it hadn’t turned up to be told it was want ordered to arrive until 7:30 which was a lie as I heard them talking in the background and when I first called to confirm order they told me it was booked for 6:45. Arrived just before 7:30 but a miserable woman who dropped and ran and wasn’t very pleasant. Food tasted nice but very disappointed with the service. I would of respected them far more for being honest as I appreciate it is busy at the moment. Never had an apology which doesn’t cost anything and would of meant I would of given a better review"

"We visited here specially for their lunchtime deal which is valid up to 5pm. It is really good value for what you get. We had 2 courses which were really tasty and flavourful that cost £12.90. For starters, we had the potato skins which were served with a pot of sour cream which were good and the garlic pizza bread with mozzarella which was really good! The dough was really soft and fluffy. It also had plenty of garlic and mozzarella on top which made for a really delicious starter! I highly recommend that! We then ordered our pizzas for our main. The pepperoni pizza was really moist and had lots of pepperoni. Again, the dough was soft, light, and airy with lots of flavour! The portion sizes are very good, I definitely left full. The restaurant was clean and spacious. The serving team were also friendly and pleasant. I would definitely return again. Tasty food with good portions at good prices!"

"I visited SDM Coffee House for my daughters 6th Birthday Party.The cafe was clean and well organised, the staff friendly and the chocolate tasted delicious.I can honestly say that I couldn't have asked for it to go any better. The staff were patient and kind to the children and were generous with the chocolate.As a true chocolate lover I expected it to be cheap and nasty but it was proper Belgium chocolate and the kids made solid chocolate moulds and lollies. The sandwiches were tasty and they were quite happy to provide another jug of squash when it had run out.The atmosphere was great, they had Frozen playing for the kids...Honestly couldn't have been happier....Thank you all very much indeed."

"Many thanks for providing us with a great evening for our Christmas Party in the Hampshire Room on Saturday evening. The stairs and the room were beautifully decorated for Christmas and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The organisation and the serving went seamlessly. There was a decent gap between courses.The food was truly delicious. Apparently the lamb was superb. My sea bass was really nicely cooked, and the flavours tasty. The gluten free choices were outstanding. That guest was amazed at the extent of choice. All 31 guests were full of compliments, and I didn’t hear anything negative. I considered that the cost of the night were reasonable and good value for money. The house wines were perfectly drinkable. It was helpful that there was flexibility in the choice of colour of wine, so that we were able to swap colours if we wished. You were willing to let my husband play his guitar to the guests and we had a lovely singsong. I hope we didn’t bother the guests downstairs! The disco proved popular at the end.
