"We were greeted in a friendly manner and thought that we were in for a great experience. We had our drinks order taken after about 10 minutes and even though we had made our food choices, YY told us he would deal with the drinks...first and return for the food order. The restaurant was probably only a tenth full so we assumed (wrongly) that the food orders would be taken fairly quickly. 20 minutes later we had to prompt YY that we were hungry and hadn’t ordered our food yet. He apologised insincerely and said that they were very busy! We looked around at the almost empty restaurant and questioned this to be told that they were prioritising their take away customers! Obviously this wasn't what we were expecting to be told especially having pre booked the table several days before. YY was training a couple of new staff members which was fine and although they were smiling and pleasant they were clearly out of their depth. One produced an empty wine glass after having ordered a glass of red wine! The Wagyu beef dish was sent back because it was chewy and inedible it was a poor rump steak at best and Wagyu in name only. The other food was ok but overall the experience and service were extremely disappointing. I would rather have gone to the Macdonalds over the road and I’m not a big fan of the golden arches. Final straw was the Health and Safety. See the picture attached. We won’t return."

"This was my first visit to Chai Paani and I was looking forward to trying it. Everything about it was poor: The decor is very basic, we wouldn 't have minded that if everything else, especially the food had been good. They were playing George Michael 's 'Last Christmas ' when we arrived. They played it again and again and they were playing it when we left. It would have been hilarious if it hadn 't been so horrible. The staff paid much more attention to selling the new shop they had set up, some sort of sweet mart nearby. Every table got given a talk by a server about it and left with a leaflet. It might have been of interest if Chai Paani had been better. The food was ordered and whilst we were waiting we were told the table was too small to put the food on, so it would come in dribs and drabs. That was okay for us. Everything that arrived the chaats, the pani puri etc all tasted the same a thick tangy sauce that tasted of preservative. It was unpleasant. We asked for pani puri water and were told there was a separate charge for it which is unusual given we ordered pani puri. After that food was cleared away, the dosa came it was the wrong order and the manager did replace it with the right one. Again, it tasted of the same horrible tangy sauce. We were asked how the food was when we went to pay and we explained the above, but they weren 't really interested. There is so much competition for food on Belgrave Road, Chai Paani needs to try harder if it going to stay relevant. We won 't be returning. What was good about it? We were seated quickly. The manager took away the wrong dosa that was bought and got us the right one. Neither of these things are things to shout about though."

"I was hesitant to try free days first, as my children are restless and I am even fussier, but I am so glad that we made it! first, the guy at the door was so warm and welcomed that he could immediately calm me down. I had to wait about 15 minutes for a table of 4 in the middle of the evening on a Saturday that seemed reasonable. 20 minutes to foot and our table is not ready so that he goes out of his way to remodel some things and add us somewhere warmer! no task too small for him, it was very appreciated. we were first served by a waitress, but she had too much on her teller, so a beautiful young brunette girl took our order, not catch her names, but she can not be older than 20. she said she was still new, but it was so good that we didn't notice! we were warned food can add 5 or 10 minutes due to the peak time and instead there were 10 minutes earlier than expected, much to our surprise! my girls had chicken bites and are usually so restless about the teig on these things, but they said they were delicious! veg sticks were also a nice extra tasty bites (this mother feels less guilty for the processed chicken heheheh. I had the steak fajita! I was recommended by the manager because it had everything I love in it, I was warning as I wasn't good with texture, but it was delicious! and finally! pudding was the brownie and it went a leak with the girls. the manager (I think I? she had green hair and many pins! made us desserts when we were in a hurry to hit the traffic home and she gave the girl a few extras sweetness and a ballon dog eat. they loved it! customer interaction at this place was fantastic, really an experience. they have made customers for living here on Fridays. I will definitely be back! if this goes to any team, please tell them hello of the crazy ingwer dame standing with the princesses! you are brilliant!"
