"We have had many memorable lunches and suppers at Summer Lodge since moving from London to Dorset, it was always the go to place for a celebration. Honeymoon, Birthdays and anniversary’s. The staff were always helpful, friendly and accommodating. The fabulous wine waiter would recommend the best that he could offer and the food was always exquisite and culinary outstanding. Today however was quite a disappointment. Standards have fallen drastically, gone is the attention to detail, and the staff really have not a clue how to serve their customers that are forking out a tremendous amount of money to eat in this establishment. Service was slow and when it came…we were met with a very impatient and arrogant man (I believe his name was Phil) I don’t know where he gained his grades at charm school?? The service was not at all what we have previously experienced. We ordered starters…no napkins, (don’t forget this is supposed to be a 5 hotel) they arrived and to be honest the goats cheese mousse was pitiful, in total it was half a dessert spoon of mousse and loads of garnish, the mackerel was a slither with a scrape of garlic purée….it was ok but, nothing to write home about. Then the mains arrived……beef cheek and mash that was totally crucified. The duck….again was just duck flavoured pulp…the only saving grace was the dessert, lemon posset, this was really good. The service was substandard and not attentive at all, attention to detail is no longer there. I feel sad about this as SL was always our destination place to go for that ‘Special occasion’ It’s hellish expensive and you should expect more. Standards are very very low and the staff no longer come from Europe….enough said about that. All in all we won’t be returning to what was once a very special place for us."

"I called to place an order early evening. I was told to come at 8.45pm (1.45 mins after I placed order) The order wasn’t ready at correct time. Another customer was waiting also. He said he'd been there 20 minutes longer than he was told. No apology was given. Waited another 15 mins and had to send my waiting taxi away for another job. Costing me double what it should as they had waited. As I was told, it would be another 5 minutes. Was then told the owners husband would take me for free as I had to pay extra for my taxi and wait over 25 mins by this time. When he got back from a delivery. Now 9.10pm. I informed him I was told it was for free. The girl agreed this with his wife, the chef. I was then verbally abused in his taxi by the male owner the entire taxi ride!! I was made to feel like I was responsible for the timing error!! He was shouting at me that it was there fault and his taxi isn’t linked to the business and he’s going to loose money. Initially I was sympathetic and said they should have communicated that with him so it was clear. He completely ignored me, my partner then called to see where I was as it had been nearly 30 minutes. When I finished the call he stated shouting again slamming his hands on the steering wheel shouting that it wasn’t a “fast food restaurant” And it is impossible to get the timings right that it isn’t possible!!? Eh!!? I said I had rung 2 hours nearly prior to pick up and if they weren’t able to deliver those timings then why give them to customers? I said to stop shouting at me, it wasn’t my fault, my dinner is late, I’m out of pocket more than I should and I’m being told it’s my fault!!! He continued to shout and swear at me before stopping the taxi, at the bottom of the hill to kick me out of the taxi!! A good walk from my address, whilst still swearing and shouting at me!! Saying “yeah off you stupid “ laughing at the same time! The worst and Most unbelievable treatment!! I was left physically upset and shaken and obviously was then not feeling like eating the £35.00 meal I had bought for a dinner in with friends. I also had to walk up a dark hill.on my own after being abused by this man! Really upsetting experience. Terrible customer care. I will tell all my friends locally to NEVER use either of their businesses in the future! Given the current climate they should be making an effort to deal well with customer delays. They have A LOT to learn! As well as that horrible man getting some anger management i’d advice not taking orders when you clearly can’t deliver to the timings of them! I’ll happily spend my money Elsewhere in future!"

"I cannot find fault at all abso perfect in every way! Our group had Vegan burger, Pork faggots Cumberland sausage meals. Had to control ourselves not to lick the plates it was so tasty! All homemade and so, so tasty. We squeezed ourselves into the last remaining non reserved table and were served within seconds of going to order even though busy. Once a bigger table became free the landlord cleaned it and came over to offer it to us rather than saving for a bigger party so kind and thoughtful not what I'm used to out my way! About 12 vegan/veg dishes and plenty of meat/fish dishes of various delicacies about 40 meals ish. It seemed a standardised pricing one price fits all meals which was really refreshing idea. Busy, but lovely atmosphere where everyone seemed to know each other very welcoming nothing seemed too much trouble to landlord/lady. Once food scoffed we had an hour to spare before we had to make a move and didn't feel at all we had to make room for someone else. This sounds silly but I really appreciate a good hand soap these days (yes I'm pushing late 40's) and I was really happy to find Molton Brown hand soap in the toilets not a luxury I get in my local haunts (must try to upgrade my locals). Only thing I realy would recommend is to book we were so very lucky to get a space and |I wouldn't want anyone disappointed! Anyway give it a go you won't be disappointed!"

"We visited The Greyhound a couple of years ago and like a few other reviewers, we were keen to return during our holiday this September. On this occasion, we had only been at our table for a matter of minutes when the landlord (I presume) called across the bar asking me if my dog had urinated on the floor. I replied that they had been to the toilet outside before coming in. The response from the landlord was to state that one of my dogs had just done a massive wee on the floor. My dogs are house trained and polite company in pubs and other venues. We walked straight to our our table from the door. Surely I would have needed to stop in the bar to let my dog do the said massive wee (they are not big dogs and don 't do massive anything)? Even if one of them did have an accident, do you not think I would have informed someone, or do you take such a dim view of your customers to assume I would not? My mother believed she heard the landlord make a disparaging comment about my dogs to one of the waiting staff. The whole unnecessary incident made me feel embarrassed and humilated in front of other diners. If we had not had such an arduous journey to get there, we would have left. I did enjoy the roast chicken but my Mum 's roast beef was mostly inedible stringy and tough. She left half of it. Also the roast potatoes appeared to be the frozen variety. On a more positive note the waiting staff were polite, attentive and were kind to my dogs; we appreciated that."
