"The Rose and Crown is in a lovely, peaceful country setting. The accommodation at the first class and opens out on to a magnificent view of the rolling hills of Dorset/Somerset. Better yet, they are dog friendly (everyone staff and local patrons alike seems to have a dog too). But the food is where the Rose really excels. We had a very moreish and lovingly cooked sirloin as well as a Cornish brill. And the desserts were incredible: our family voted the chocolate and plum fondant the best! This gastro pub definitely deserves it’s AA Rosettes and the quality of the food extended to the breakfast the following day. The staff could not be friendlier or more accommodating."

Sunday lunch was delicious! We booked the day before and glad we did, it’s a busy little spot. Lovely and cosy. We were also able to bring the dog, a big plus for us

I went to this restaurant with some friends for lunch in the middle of the week while on vacation in Dorset. The village setting was charming and we received a friendly welcome. Although it was a bit expensive, the food and service were excellent. I would definitely return if I were in the area again.

This is a beautiful old English inn set in gorgeous countryside. The welcome is warm and friendly and the staff are very helpful. The thatched pub serves great food, my roast lamb was divine. My room was a splendid converted stables with a very comfortable bed and an excellent shower room. A perfect place to stay and I will be back

We went for a weekday lunch, and had no difficulty getting a table for 4. The welcome and service was very friendly and relaxed. There was a cosy snug with sofas, newspapers and a fire, but we went straight to our table, which overlooked the garden. The food was excellent. We had to wait for our game pies, but we were asked beforehand if the wait was ok, which is good practice. Good beer, too!

Whitebait very salty and limp and repeated on me for hours afterwards. No attempt made to give me an alternative dish. Confit of duck with red cabbage arrived looking like an upside down toffee apple and the shredded meat inside tasted exactly the same as the short rib anchovy fritter starter for my friend. Waitress not interested in our disappointment . We won’t be back. Really poor for the price.

Having been married for 55 years we decided to have lunch here. The food was good but our enjoyment of the visit was spoilt by a guest on the next table who carried his dog to his table and sat with it on his lap whilst eating his food. As someone who has a number of allergies including dogs, we did not stay for dessert as we would have done, but ate our main course and left. Not the celebration we had envisidged. Disappointing.

Finally, a pub with food as beautiful as its garden! We chose to dine in the "Garden Room" which featured a fine dining menu and we were not let down. The food was exceptional, prepared with top-notch ingredients and flavors by the chef. I ordered the sirloin and my friend had the duck - both dishes were equally delicious. The chef even surprised us with complimentary "taster" plates in between courses. Overall, a wonderful dining experience.
