"One of the best-kept secrets along the Weinstrasse is Sankt Martin. Surrounded by vineyards, the village flows down a hillside and centers in one of the most beautiful town squares you will ever encounter. And guess what, it is almost always quiet and pretty much free of tourists, save for the few German couples walking about.Sitting in the center of the town square is the Rathaus. Poetically, the Rathaus sits facing Tanz Strasse, with a small canal running right along the side of the street. On a normal summer day, simply nothing beats a beer and the excellent home-style cooking of their chef. He was so generous with his time last summer, that he invited me into the kitchen to see how he prepares a proper schnitzel. And the tricks he taught me, I use every time I prepare schnitzel back home. The Schweinebäckchen is supurb, So is the Saumagen, but the various Schnitzels are to die for. It just doesn't get much better than this. To put it bluntly, and I've eaten at the Deidesheimer Hof dozens of times. This little spot in an idyllic village is much better."

We absolutely loved our lunch at Altes Rathaus! Each of our meals was perfectly cooked. The waiter was helpful, spoke great English, and gave us helpful guidance in our food and wine choices. The atmosphere of the outdoor seating was perfect--including an unexpected visit from...roaming musicians! Definitely a place to return with friends and family.

Situated on the main street of the pretty village of St Martin, this restaurant offers local specialties. The owner speaks several languages and was most welcoming. We had a selection of their flamkuchen to start - crispy pizzas, German style. Because it was nearing the end of the asparagus season, a variety of dishes with asparagus were on offer. Never before have I seen such generous helpings of white asparagus, served with salmon. What a feast! Ver carta

Had dinner tonight at Altes Rathaus in Sankt Martin with guest and the local food that they served us was fantastic. Ambience is warm and nice and the owners are also very friendly and hands on with the business. The sausages, salad and saumagen is very delicious. They also have a good choice of local wine to go with the food. For the non-drinker, you should try the red or white grape juice. Sankt Martin is also a nice village with small shop and a picturesque background. To the owner, Rudiger, thank for the the wonderful gastronomic experience and to your warm hospitality.

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience here. The “Rollbraten” (pork roast) was about fat, it was inedible. After mentioning this to the waiter, he did nothing about it, not even offer a discount. Instead he insisted on the bill amount to be fully...settled in cash. They do not accept cards, which is rather unusual and a bit strange, apart from being inconvenient. It does not appear to be a restaurant to be run by locals (I grew up in the area), it is owned by a chain, and it completely lacks charm. Might also explain why it was empty. The location would have potential, but unfortunately it’s run by the wrong people. There‘s lots of other restaurants around. I strongly recommend to go som...

Ok when you get a flaming ice sculpture with super yummy wine parfaits we can hardly say you are not having fun. This was my dear friends asking the chef to send me up during a recent visit. The restaurant is located in the picturesque village of St. Martin, surrounded by half-timbered houses This restaurant is classic German. Warm, woody, and wunderbar. The decor is great fun. We were the first ones in at about 530pm and we had local wine to start. The staff are very nice and attentive. I had to have the special Saumagen with red cabbage and potatoes. The fried potatoes were crispy and not drowned in grease, the red cabbage was fresh. My friends had Schweinebäckchen - soft as butter and in...
