On our way to Andorra we passed by this lovely town and had lunch in this place! The menu including the cassoulet was outstanding! We will return!

Are there really 9 better restaurants in Montauban ? In our 14 day tour of France we enjoyed this dinner more than any of the other 13. Perfect ambiance, service and food.Slightly out of the way and not easy to stumble across but well worth the wander across the River Tarn. Cannot be recommended high enough.

An elegant modern interior spacious for a small resto. My wife and I have been coming to the Fil de l'eau for over 20 years though not frequently. We have never had other than a pleasant experience and fine food. Criticisms currently; a bit pricey and a definitely overpriced wine list. This hidden gem in the beautiful city of Montauban showcases the talents of an exceptional chef and wait staff. Each course was beautifully presented and a delight to behold. An interesting touch was the Siamese fighting fish in a bowl on each table - not your usual flowers. Although up there in price, such excellent food, professional service and wonderful atmosphere, made this an experience to remember.

48 euros for an excellent 4 course lunch with foie gras; the best pigeon I have ever had; cheese and a dessert. Nice ambience and the decor is modern; lovely colours.... Siamese fighting fish on the table is a nice touch but am sure UK animal rightists will complain!! Parking is outside and free and the town centre is only a 10 minute walk..... Part of a group of restaurants but no evidence of "group" behaviour in the cuisine. A really good find...

If you want to splurge for a romantic dinner, this is a good place for it. We had one of the best dinners of our 6-week trip. The restaurant is just across the Pont Vieux from the historic center. It offers a menu at 37 euros that avoids the standard regional dishes and instead goes for creativity. Service was friendly and helpful. The noise level was quiet, with excellent jazz selections playing discreetly. The wine list proposes local wines from Montauban and Quercy at 12 to 16 euros. You know you've found something a little "different" when you have a Japanese fighter fish on your table. (Grab another one from an adjoining table to watch some fun!). Seriously, this was a special find when we p[assed through this pretty medieval town last month. Only 6 others in the room at a quiet lunch, which was hugely enjoyable. Well presented dishes by a good-humoured waiter. Nice selection of 1/2 bottles of wine on offer too. The restaurant has a verty smart decor, and would probably take on an extra romantic dimension for dinner if one was staying overnight. If you happen to be in Montauban, do visit this place for dinner! It is located next to the river (and, as far as I could understand, the name means something like "water drifting by"). I did not see that a restaurant has a view of the river, however, although the view was mentioned in the reception of our hotel. Inside, it is quite cosy and a bit modernistic. Ask a waiter for a daily menu. Our French is horrible and his English was not excellent, but we managed to find a common language - great food and wine. After I rejected his offer of sweet white wine (ew!), the (dry) wine recommended by the waiter serving us was a top notch. But we were willing to spend about 20 Eur a bottle. Well wort...

This is our second time at Fil de l'Eau in Montauban, the first time being three years ago. The first time, we had a marvelous menu degustation. This time, we chose the 48-euro menu, as we weren't hungry enough for both fish and meat courses. The place is just fantastic. Large, airy, light-filled room, with plenty of space between tables. Excellent service, professional, friendly, correct in every way. Absolutely no long waits. Good advice on wines and aperitifs. After a soup amuse-bouche, starters were asparagus feuilleté with crayfish and foie gras mî-cuit. Mains were pigeon presented beautifully and turbot, both memorable.
