"There are two entrances to this marvellous restaurant. You can use the main entrance that leads you directly to the clean but a little old-fashioned looking dining room, or you can chose to enter via a porch, which leads you directly to a pleasant terrace in between two historic buildings and a small river. The kitchen serves mainly regional dishes (or at least inspired from it), but there seem to be an interesting “renovating” factor. I had a game terrine as a starter and pike perch with choucroute. Both dishes were delicious. My wife had a winegrower’s salad (with saveloy and gruyère) which was also very good (and enormous). There is a good choice of wines, but since the restaurant is held (since 1724!) by the Ancel family that also grows wines, we opted for their wine (and we did not regret at all).Staff was very professional and friendly."

A wonderful meal in this romantic escape. Great service, wine and more importantly food! Made our stay in this town very memorable. Recommended!

We enjoyed a very pleasant evening here with good service and a relaxed atmosphere. The pork schnitzels and salad were most enjoyable as was the wine.

We dined at Au Lion d'Or on our first evening in Kaysersberg. Our server was very helpful with interpreting the menu. The food was terrific. Excellent dessert choices.

A very good restaurant. We had Duck confi and Lamb. Both very good and the Lamb were huge for a person. The waiter was very effectively even that the restaurant was full. Ver carta

Pleasant, easy eating restaurant. Large portions that are good to share, especially their "Tarte Flambee", a great crispy crust with plenty of topping. Do try the kiddneys. All the typical Alsatian dishes are there too. Good place for a late night supper.

The only place open in the neighborhood on a Monday evening in May. A pleasant place, crisp linen, good service. However, the salad greens were discolored with age, the dressing over-vinegar-y. Food was so-so, but portions were generous. When we left, we were no longer hungry.

Sadly the food doesn't really live up to the expectation created by the formal surroundings and high prices. As you can see from the photos accompanying the reviews, the dishes are dainty and decorative but ultimately unsatisfying. If nothing else, the Lion d'Or is at least open on Mondays, when most other restaurants are shut. Ver carta

We specify clearly that one of us is lactose and gluten intolerant and they present her their veggies in butter and tomatoes in breadcrums. Wine is poured over the table and not even a replacement is proposed.Meat overcooked.Tarte flambée not well cooked.Lamb okay.Escargots good.Worse was the tarte maison rhubarbe which was old and burnt... and a watermelon presented with the café gourmand that had a tangy and sour smell. It was evident that it had gone bad. When asked the waiter to smell it he said it's normal.... erm right!!

We enjoyed a leasurely lunch at this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. It was very busy and we waited over a local wine for 15 minutes before we could be seated. Wait staff managed to understand our Australian accent and assisted with menu suggestions. We each had two courses including foi grae, schnitzel, quiche, and creme brulee. Each were perfect and when matched with half bottles of local wine we couldn't have been more satisfied. 90 Euros including tip was money very well spent for a couple of hours in heaven. The decor is stunning with passing tourists flitting in for photos.
